You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

result @MrsHamlet - I found being on SLT a real drain. Though the money was decent it just ate into my free time and stress levels soared.

I think I'd realised that on interview day, staff
All the strategic stuff gets buried in the grind... I've tried to get a meeting with my boss all week and something has got in her way every time. I find that enormously stressful.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 13/06/2021 16:16

All the good bits of the job I applied for but without being on SLT

Amazing, Congrats. I had a job like that in my old school, but mat leave put paid to it.

HarrietDVane · 13/06/2021 16:18

Fantastic news @MrsHamlet! Very well deserved SmileWineThanks

I almost never have time alone. I don't actually know what I'd do with myself if I did. DH's shifts mean that he starts and finishes early - historically this has worked well for us as I could take care of mornings and school drop offs and he could take care of pickup and afternoons.

@ChloeDecker

Yeah, the South East is just silly money compared to that! Could by a few houses in cash with what we’ve spent on one house with a massive mortgage but then, you wouldn’t want shed loads of Londoners moving North spoiling all that Grin
True but apparently they will with the Treasury opening up here.

The north don't need to worry about that. Covid seems to have made them all decide to move to the SW. It's pushing the house prices up quickly just as I'm looking to buy.

Congratulations on the new role MrsH.

DanglingMod · 13/06/2021 17:34

Fabulous! Congrats, MrsH 👏

JanFebAnyMonth · 13/06/2021 17:57

Well done @MrsHamlet!

noblegiraffe · 13/06/2021 18:17

Congrats on the promotion, Mrs! Is a Lead Practitioner like the old AST?

MsAwesomeDragon you picked up teaching FM A-level recently didn't you? Any tips for someone looking forward to a summer of learning hard maths?

Congrats Mrs H that's bloody fantastic! Wine

TheHoneyBadger · 13/06/2021 18:25

Brilliant MrsH! Really pleased for you.

Noble my only tips (after having to upskill for science) is find really good youtuber teachers who explain things brilliantly. I don't get it though because you are a Maths teacher already - unless you really are a secret English teacher?

MrsHamlet · 13/06/2021 18:25

Thank you all :) it was totally unexpected ... HT is not known for doing things like that so I just gawped at him!
When we go on our world tour, we can drink to my HT not always being a knob.
It is, noble. It's actually the job I'm doing now but with more weight behind it. I think it'll help when I'm working with staff who need support - in the past, there's been a "why is an English teaching telling a science teacher what to do" thing. I don't tell people what to do (unless they really piss me off) but this should help.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 13/06/2021 18:28

Congratulations MrsH. Fantastic news and a role I'd love (in the right school!).

RigaBalsam · 13/06/2021 18:34

Congratulations MrsH

MsAwesomeDragon · 13/06/2021 18:46

noble it wasn't the further maths I picked up, just A Level applied, which I'd never even learned, let alone taught. My recommendation would be, do every exercise in the textbooks, use YouTube for things you aren't sure of, and ask whoever currently teaches it at your school for help when your answers don't match the answers at the back.

CarrieBlue · 13/06/2021 18:46

Congratulations MrsH! Application form is done, I’ll waffle on in the cover letter later, and decide whether or not to hit send before I go to bed. It has been nice remembering I can teach though whilst going through it all!

Londoners often get the blame Grin
HarveySchlumpfenburger · 13/06/2021 19:02

Here they are buying without viewing. Stuff goes up online and it's sold within 24 hours. It's mental and the prices are shooting up because people can put whatever price they want on it and it sells.

In middle of tipsy Covid debate and DH doesn't believe LFTs are only 50% accurate.
Help me out here!!!

Tell him this!

^one study by researchers at the University of Oxford and Public Health England’s Porton Down lab found the LFTs were more accurate in the hands of skilled scientists, picking up 79% of Covid cases, than self-trained members of the public, who detected 58% of Covid cases.
Estimates for these rates vary. However, according to the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), and comparing results against those obtained by PCR testing, the false positive rate for LFTs is fewer than one in 1,000, while the false negative rate could be as high as 50%.^

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 13/06/2021 20:12

I've got the dread about this week. Behaviour will be awful, staff are all falling apart (irrespective of behaviour), reports to write, assessment week. Just aaagh.
