You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Oh my word @DrMadelineMaxwell! How terrifying Shock - I hope he's ok. I hope your DD's results go well too.

We have several staff off isolating after contact with positives. It feels (anecdotally) as if levels locally are on the rise but obviously not on the same scale as yours, Piggy!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 11/06/2021 20:38

That sounds scary, DrM. Definitely take him back if it happens again.

Just watched today’s press conference from home. Not sure if they meant to cast shade on the U.K. government, but it started off with an early comment about their overwhelming priority is to do the best for their citizens and that they remain safe whether they are 1 day old or 100 years old.

Breathing a bit of a sigh of relief that so far, although they are making changes to travel based on the situation in the U.K. it doesn’t yet affect my mum coming over next month.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 11/06/2021 20:44

Is it time to cancel my channel tunnel ticket?

DrMadelineMaxwell · 11/06/2021 20:52

She did great, Harriet thanks. Got a C in Welsh which she admits she didn't engage with during lockdown, and As and A* in everything else along with a D in further maths...d for distinction. (Was caught out with that grade when dd1 did it and she thought she had failed it for a moment).

JanFebAnyMonth · 11/06/2021 20:53

Sorry to hear about yr DH DrMad. How were yr DD’s preliminary grades?

thecatfromjapan · 11/06/2021 20:55

Well done you dd. But ... my goodness about your dh!

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 11/06/2021 20:58

DrM What a roller-coaster of a day!

HarrietDVane · 11/06/2021 21:00

Well done to your DD @DrMadelineMaxwell! Fantastic results! Smile

ChloeDecker · 11/06/2021 21:05

Three cheers for DMM’s DD!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 11/06/2021 21:06

Well done to your DD on the grades.

I don’t know rule. Quite possibly. The situation in the U.K. is getting worse and not better and the most we’re doing about it is maybe thinking about not allowing more contact in 10 days. Is a bit worrying the most official information I’ve seen on where the U.K. is currently is in a press conference from a completely different government.

ChloeDecker · 11/06/2021 21:08

Hope your DH rests easy DMM
What a scare you have had!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 11/06/2021 21:11

Awww... you're all lovely. Thanks. FlowersCakeWine

noblegiraffe · 11/06/2021 21:21

Well done to your DD, DrMaddie, what great results! (hope she is doing maths A-level!) And hope your DH is ok, sounds like it was scary. Flowers

noblegiraffe · 11/06/2021 21:22

This made me laugh

Gardian now reporting the Innova test recall in US, apparently MHRA now investigating:

DanglingMod · 11/06/2021 21:43

That's hilarious, Noble.

Hope DH remains well, DrMM.

Such a weird feeling that cases are increasing so much, bubbles popping all over and we're all going back to normal in schools really. We now have...hand sanitiser. They must have to stop isolation of classes if they're not going to do anything to mitigate spread in schools because "it's only young people"? There are too many children and staff off!

DollyMixtureLulus · 11/06/2021 21:53

Yes, but 'no one is dying' Confused and the 'chain' between hospitalisations is 'broken' Hmm

I feel like it is groundhog day. If we don't get this sorted in the summer how can we possibly think winter will be better? And I can't do another lockdown.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 11/06/2021 22:02

She is indeed doing A level maths, noble.

RigaBalsam · 11/06/2021 22:10

Ahh brilliant Dr M. Well done to your dd.
MrsHerculePoirot · 11/06/2021 22:27

Well done to your DD @DrMadelineMaxwell and hope your DH is ok.

I’ve been sent home twice this week and now signed off next week with suspected labyrinthitis…. Just what I need tbh. Then also had a hypo today because I’m trying to get my blood sugar levels back under control… and funnily enough the combo of not eating loads of shit AND taking my medication properly and consistently actually works 🤦‍♀️

We’re going back to masks in classrooms, teachers masks everywhere and not to stray outside our boxes again from Monday due to rising levels in our area…

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 11/06/2021 22:40

I loved A level maths, even though I found it quite hard. Can't remember anything about it now, obv. Was it all about integration?

I've now got two people in my team for next year who are very openly struggling with mental health. I've been asked to give them 'easier' classes. Which means me and the other teacher get shafted with a load of exhausting Bob's. I pointed this out to no avail.

ChloeDecker · 11/06/2021 22:52

Those bloody fidget spinners!

Has anyone seen photos of Jill Biden and the Duchess visiting a primary school today? Loving the photos of them wearing masks in the classroom but the teachers next to them obvs aren’t due to the guidance.
It’s not just magic tape folks but teachers themselves obviously have a magic Covid repelling force field around us Hmm

DreamingofBrie · 11/06/2021 22:57

Congratulations to your dd! I'm glad she's doing A-level Maths Smile.

Just marked a load of end of year exams for Y12. One of my classes has been tricky but they seem to have mostly done well. This class has had me wondering if it was me, rather than them, so feel relieved at their results.

JanFebAnyMonth · 11/06/2021 23:07

Yes just watched that vid Chloe, just remind us ignorant secondary types, what is the current mask guidance in primary?

HarrietDVane · 11/06/2021 23:28

Our guidance hasn't really changed in primary: no masks to be worn by anyone in classrooms, but adults recommended to wear masks in communal areas outside the classrooms where social distancing is not possible.
