You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

@shampeepoo

Name changed for this but did any of you who completed GCSE tasks let the pupils go home after the exam to think about it and try again the next day. So they all told each other the answers. So now have a disproportionate number of high GCSE grades.
Oh god no.

Although we did have kids sit exams days after other kids sat the same paper. In theory they could have cheated. But I’ve marked the papers of they cheated they did a piss poor job of it.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 11/06/2021 17:55

We didn't do that in maths.

Other departments did...

Piggywaspushed · 11/06/2021 18:03

rafa??

MrsHamlet · 11/06/2021 18:07

We did not do that

shampeepoo · 11/06/2021 18:12

My friends school didnt either. Some kids actually had three days to sit an exam.

Eg main exam Tuesday. Finish exam Wednesday. Come back again Friday.

So essentially several nights to think about answers.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 11/06/2021 18:15

We had some where they saw the question Monday and structured an answer as a class, then did the assessment on the Tuesday. This dept had to do extra assessments under 'high' control.

Hmmmm I just don't know As the whole school has done it this way.

Just had a message from nhs offering me the chance to have my second jab earlier... instead of my planned appointment tomorrow morning! 😂

rafa??
Just a hunch piggy. Despite sending so many kids home you know there’ll be a parent insisting their school has no cases.
Piggywaspushed · 11/06/2021 19:15

Oh yes, I see. I did once have a parent local to me on here arguing black was white.

Piggywaspushed · 11/06/2021 19:16

Just had the vaccine station phone me too trying to get DS done tonight or ASAP tomorrow. There is a huge sense of urgency.

TheHoneyBadger · 11/06/2021 19:17

Maybe their thought was everyone is going to have high marks and they're all going to be made to mark down so if we have crazy high marks even after being knocked down we'll come out high?

Sounds mental giving them a week of home research to do an assessment.

TheHoneyBadger · 11/06/2021 19:18

It's so weird that you're so close and yet things are so different there Piggy.

Saucery · 11/06/2021 19:19

Several bubbles popped dramatically at my school today. Can’t go into details but staff working across key stages is errrr......maybe not ideal. Who knew Hmm

I am tired from my second AZ vacc but nothing like the side effects from the first one, so that’s good. In fact, I might just be tired.

We have a new Walk In vaccination Centre, no appt needed, a few miles away. Booking for 2nd vacc was on a centralised online portal too, not like the first one where the GP phoned you and told you when you were booked in. It was very busy yesterday when I went (GP hub site). Most people were younger than me, so maybe their 1st rather than their 2nd. Lots and lots of info on risk and side effects too. Effectively had to sign a disclaimer saying you had done your research and weighed up the risks.

It's like another world. They are acting like it doesn't exist up here.
JanFebAnyMonth · 11/06/2021 19:24

@shampeepoo I’m guessing you know the answer to this already.....

Hancock’s been suppressing data, a source has told Byline Times (who need some kind of journalism prize, methinks):

DrMadelineMaxwell · 11/06/2021 19:31

20yo dd had hers this afternoon.

Amid some drama! Got home after school to pick her up and take her and as I was waiting for her to get ready dh collapsed!
Just slumped down on himself when sat on the sofa and started making grunting noises. I sat him back in the seat and couldnt wake him for a minute, then it was another minute before he came to properly..

So she was dropped off at the vaccine centre and he at the A&E dept. A cursory check over by the triage nurse and he was sent out again. They are blaming the heat and dehydration. I'd have preferred him to have had a proper checkup but it was a 5 hour wait. So he's home and in bed instead.

Scared the shit out of me and the 2 dds who were in the room at the time.

Saucery · 11/06/2021 19:34

Bloody hell, DrM, is he getting a second opinion, even if it’s only from his GP asap?

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 11/06/2021 19:39

@Piggywaspushed where are you?

DrMadelineMaxwell · 11/06/2021 19:47

I rang his gp who blamed his diabetes....but he isnt medicated and has reversed it with diet so unlikely to be that.

If he so much as twitches this weekend I will have him at out of hours or back to A&E.

Piggywaspushed · 11/06/2021 19:49

Oh goodness DrMadeline, how frightening!

I am in a B hotspot rule...

Saucery · 11/06/2021 19:58

Too right!

DollyMixtureLulus · 11/06/2021 20:21

Oh my DrMadeline, what a shock you must have all had. Keep a very close eye on him.

I've never ever been this teacher-tired before. All the staff look so done in. We're moving classrooms from Monday and then the following will be general tidying and keeping the kids happy.
