You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

They are prickly defensive gits who see everything as an accusation against them personally which is odd. It worries me that maybe they feel like that because they can actually identify with the perpetrators and therefore feel defensive because it could easily be/have been them. Which is a thoroughly depressing thought.

Sign of the times? 16 year old boy stabbed to death outside school gates yesterday in Luton. Doesn't even merit a news story?

Piggywaspushed · 10/06/2021 20:05

Unfortunately , I think releasing the report on the same day as Maya Forstater stuff may have distracted people.

Piggywaspushed · 10/06/2021 20:07

I shall look out for U4T buzzwords form that latest nonsense on MN.

It was on News at Ten, wasn't it? Unless that was another one? Horrific, anyway.
Piggywaspushed · 10/06/2021 20:13

Was it? Not seen it in online papers or on BBC.

JanFebAnyMonth · 10/06/2021 20:30

I saw it on BBC website yesterday morning I think, but it didn’t make any headlines that I heard.

DanglingMod · 10/06/2021 20:55

Maybe it was News 24 a couple of times between 8-10 pm thinking about it. Definitely a story about it though.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 10/06/2021 20:59

Who knows what U4T are up to. I did find this retweeted by them on their timeline though.

www.fda.gov/medical-devices/medical-device-recalls/innova-medical-group-recalls-unauthorized-sars-cov-2-antigen-rapid-qualitative-test-risk-false-test

It’s probably not the good news for them they think it is.

TheHoneyBadger · 10/06/2021 21:16

I don't get it - why would they think that was good news?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 10/06/2021 21:19

Because they don’t think children should be tested. I’m not sure they’ve really thought through all of the implications of there being less testing.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 10/06/2021 21:21

Loads and loads of people will get their children vaccinated, and any campaign against making it open to children won't get anywhere. The rest of the world have opened it up to children.

Same as there was all that bollocks about 20 - 29 year olds not being arsed with vaccination, then the day they are announced, they pretty much jam the booking system.

I think maybe the socials are just full of the hyper political and opinionated, while if you don't really 'do' them, you're blissfully unaware of almost everything. Even more divisive. Woohoo.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 10/06/2021 21:23

As far as I’m aware, home haven’t changed their policy on only unvaccinated people using these tests, because they’re a bit useless once vaccinated.

Be interested to see if it comes up at their press conference tomorrow.

Piggywaspushed · 10/06/2021 21:25

The uptake of any vaccination programme, especially one run through schools is huge. Well over 95%.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 10/06/2021 21:25

Agree rule. U4T might have the ear of the government, but they are pretty much a minority voice. There isn’t a huge amount of support for them among parents as far as I can tell.

TheHoneyBadger · 10/06/2021 21:26

LFTs aren't meant to be used on the vaccinated? Sorry. I feel like I've missed a page or something. I'm tired and struggling with the humidity.

TheHoneyBadger · 10/06/2021 21:27

Given the vaccines aren't mandatory I really can't see them having a leg to stand on with that campaign.

Love their faux concern about global equity and it being unethical to vaccinate children when parts of the world don't have enough vaccine.

Oh, I didn't know De Bono had died

Piggywaspushed · 10/06/2021 21:33

His verdict on our education system:

The Maltese thinker was particularly scathing of Britain, where, he claimed, rigid thinking and an obsession with testing led to many children leaving school “believing they are stupid. They are not stupid at all, many are good thinkers who have never had the chance to show it. But that lack of confidence will pervade the rest of their lives.”

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 10/06/2021 21:33

That’s the message from our director of public health at home. And since they have a policy of following the data and being scrupulously honest with the public during the pandemic, I’ll take their word over this government’s.

I think the theory is that viral load is lower in vaccinated people who get covid, and since the LFTs need quite a high viral load, they are even less likely to pick up a positive then they usually are.

Of course they didn’t promise a moonshot and buy millions of the things, so they probably don’t have warehouses full of the things to get rid of.

Piggywaspushed · 10/06/2021 21:36

Well that probably explains why all our (vaccinated) SLT came in spluttering and coughing and claiming they were all fine and didn't need to SI or get a PCR 'because LFT says fine'.

This won't surprise any of you...

JanFebAnyMonth · 10/06/2021 21:41

But the Product Recall notice doesn’t mention vaccination?? I’m with you honey.

I read something (reliable) today saying PPE storage alone is costing the govt £6.7 million, it’s probably similar for all those tests in large warehouses!

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 10/06/2021 21:44

Reading the ofsted report and WTAF. Why is everything down to schools to sort?

A teacher friend of mine has just got hit with an isolation. Feels like it is getting closer again even in my low case area. Roll on summer.

This week has been about 10 years long. Humidity doesn't work well for our kids. Staff are really burnt out. People either looking shakey or a bit manic.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 10/06/2021 21:55

That’s true. It seems to be saying don’t use it at all.

I wonder why a class 1 recall though. I don’t think the FDA class 1 is exactly the same as a class 1 here, but that seems a bit high.
