You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Ha! Yep!

noblegiraffe · 10/06/2021 18:27

Why is edutwitter suddenly going on about grammar schools? I've missed something.

Piggywaspushed · 10/06/2021 18:34

It just takes one tweet and they are off, usually....

cantkeepawayforever · 10/06/2021 19:07

We're about 45 kids down today. Half term, siblings and sleepovers.

cantkeepawayforever · 10/06/2021 19:08

(Low case number area. 3 PCR positives so far)

Piggywaspushed · 10/06/2021 19:21

Talking of Twitter, it is interesting and enraging how many male edutweeters are already expressing indignation about the Ofsted report.

A lone female teacher has pointed out that the report doesn't really look at how female teachers might feel or be treated.

noblegiraffe · 10/06/2021 19:23

Ofsted have uncovered a large and festering turd but because it was Ofsted who did it, it has to be all about schools.

I wish the report had been done by someone like the NSPCC in conjunction with Ofsted so that a much wider ranging response than 'let's do some more RSE' could be implemented. Parents need to get educated in how to deal with this, but I suspect it won't happen unless schools put on something after hours.

Piggywaspushed · 10/06/2021 19:24

It looks like the grammar school thing was started by those charming Unherd people.

noblegiraffe · 10/06/2021 19:27

Unherd - are they campaigning to bring them back? FFS thought that went out with Theresa May.

I'm not seeing male indignation at the Ofsted report on my timeline, I'm seeing very little about it at all. Which is pretty depressing.

Piggywaspushed · 10/06/2021 19:29

Yes, true little on it but some whataboutery.

DanglingMod · 10/06/2021 19:30

We've got positive casesbut no one would know. No letters sent home if they are backed onto a weekend/half term/isolating anyway because of parents and therefore not triggering any others to isolate.

Piggywaspushed · 10/06/2021 19:31

For example

And, is it really ‘90%’ of female students that experience this? Whilst 1 percent is disturbing enough, 90% seems to be almost impossibly high and where’s the evidence?

Literally in the report mate.

noblegiraffe · 10/06/2021 19:34

Tbf it's 90% say 'these things happen sometimes or a lot among my peers' not 90% say it has happened to them.

It's a bit muddled because it's girls and boys saying it about their peers, who could obviously be girls or boys so it's not entirely clear who the victims are (unless they were more specific in their question).

RigaBalsam · 10/06/2021 19:36

Do any of you keep getting asked from the kids?
' do you think it's coming home miss?'
'Its coming home miss?'

Guess it keeps them happy for a few weeks.

noblegiraffe · 10/06/2021 19:36

'No, it didn't come home in '96 and it's definitely not coming home now'.

WhenSheWasBad · 10/06/2021 19:37

Most of the female teachers I’ve talked to about this agree that 90% sounds about right. Possibly even too low.

We’ve sent about 60 ish kids home today. Last 5 weeks of term could be interesting. I’m really hoping we make it till mid July with no closures but I’m not optimistic. Sad

TheHoneyBadger · 10/06/2021 19:38

Same here Riga - I get an email as staff and as a parent when there's a positive case.

One thing we've been told we're getting right, and I'd agree, and that's been communication throughout the whole covid ordeal.

Ds managed a day without any warnings or lates and sat and did some geography revision so has actually been allowed his playstation for the first time this week. I've never parented like this before (I was all about intrinsic motivation and soft rewards rather than sticker charts and loss of privileges) but desperate measures are called for.

Really hoping his end of year assessments at least see him approaching his MEGs - he's been pretty crap this year and achieving way less than he's capable of because of a profound lack of effort and cba attitude. So now I'm turning into one of those parents who uses electronic gadgets to blackmail their teenager into doing what they're told.

It would be so much easier to work at the same school as my child went to if he were an angel who wasn't on report.

Sorry to hear about cases at people's schools. I'm really hoping to make it through to summer without mass isolations. We have a few positives but contracted during half term away from school so no knock on effects for us.

Piggywaspushed · 10/06/2021 19:42

Yeah, I know noble that is corrected in the next Tweet by a woman. It was his 'where is the evidence' bit that really irked.

noblegiraffe · 10/06/2021 19:43

They've got to learn, Riga. Better now than bitterly drawn out over years of disappointment Grin

God, try being Scottish , I'd say to them!

noblegiraffe · 10/06/2021 19:45

What is it about some men that means that they just can't stand any issues focused on women getting airtime?

Piggywaspushed · 10/06/2021 19:46

The patriarchy, sister!

noblegiraffe · 10/06/2021 19:49

True, piggy.

It's the bristling I can't stand.

I note that this report comes hot on the heels of that research that showed 75% of young men visited Pornhub last September.
