You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Well done @namechangedyetagain !!

Lordy, this heat is sapping isn't it?! My room is like a furnace

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 09/06/2021 21:18

Well done name. I remember the relief!

I'm exhausted today. Nit going to be able to do 6am gym action tomorrow. Not in class, so could give myself a lie in.

namechangedyetagain · 09/06/2021 21:22

Until I have something in writing in my paws I'm not believing anything! Come the beginning of July though that champagne will definitely be open🍾🥂

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 09/06/2021 21:24

Definitely been feeling the masks a bit this week Guy. They do make your face very hot.

I think we must still have been maskless this time last year.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 09/06/2021 22:04

Just read the end of the thread. Now I want to know more about scientists worrying about RSV.

Beachhuts90 · 09/06/2021 22:12

Congratulations name!

JanFebAnyMonth · 09/06/2021 22:18

Today we’ve had:
Gab saying students removing a picture of HMQ from their common room, because it was symbolic of colonialism, “Absurd!”;
Boris telling us that rich parents are able to paying for tutors for their kids “because they ((the parents)) work hard”.

Piggywaspushed · 09/06/2021 22:21

It's depressing jan.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 09/06/2021 22:29

Both of those being overshadowed by Boris going to fight climate change by flying to Cornwall.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 09/06/2021 22:34

Johnson also just said that Newquay Airport was extended for G7. When it totally wasn't.

I have no idea how a country ends up with a leader who is such an utter cock.

noblegiraffe · 09/06/2021 22:42

No, today we've had:

Michael Gove officially broke the law by giving juicy covid contracts to mates of Cummings and then spent more taxpayer money than the original contract was worth trying to cover it up.

The rest is to try to continue to cover it up.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 09/06/2021 22:47

And it turns out the PHE changed their ‘scientific advice’ not to release patients from hospitals to care homes without testing after being leaned on by the government.

Not sure why conservative MPs abstained against the violence against women bill this afternoon either. In addition to Boris refusing to call a vote on the reinstating of foreign aid to 0.7% of GDP.

But don’t worry, he’s going to be calling on the other G7 leaders to build a better, fairer and greener world.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 09/06/2021 22:49

Oh, I forgot that one noble. It was at least a few hours ago I read that so all the other crap they’ve done since pushed it from my mind.

noblegiraffe · 09/06/2021 22:54

Whereas I’ve been off twitter for a couple of hours so missed the PHE thing.
Ring of protection around care homes my arse.

Also earlier today Nick Gibb said they’d done everything they could to protect education. Nick Gibb is a liar.

So OFSTED has discovers that misogyny is rife in schools so we’ll be needing Insets on how to sew with it.

FFS, a few PSHE lessons aren’t going to cure centuries of patriarchy.

motherrunner · 10/06/2021 05:37

Like with everything it needs to come from parents. My children grow up in a feminist household (DH ‘feminist’ too).

Agreed. This is such a huge issue, I honestly don’t know what to do with it. Boys say the most disgusting things to the girls at my school. If they did it in a workplace they’d be fired. School, maybe they get a detention.

cornercupboard · 10/06/2021 06:32

Just another thing for schools to have responsibility for.... table manners, sex ed, healthy eating, internet safety, social care, fitness, toilet training...

I mentioned some of the things I do regularly to an ancient member of my church who used to be a teacher and her response was unprintable for someone of such great age and wisdom Wink

MsAwesomeDragon · 10/06/2021 06:49

Parents/families have the most influence on sexist/racist/any other prejudice. It's no good me banging on about respecting their female classmates when all their friends are sexist, and they go home to a very patriarchal/misogynistic family. How are schools supposed to fix all of society?

I've had similar conversations with former teachers. Why is teaching now turning slowly into parenting? I've known year R classes that have had to potty train children. This year I have taught 3 y5 how to do laces.
Piggywaspushed · 10/06/2021 07:09

We have just set a group up at our school and to be fair did argue for INSET led by proper experts and not just a (male) deputy head with a few ppts thrown together form time sessions.

Sexist and misogynist behaviour is a big issue at my school and is an in school issue too. Don't think we can 'prevent' it though, just educate. I don't have a problem with this one. so long as it's done really well - and there's the rub.

Is this the man who flew to Cornwall??
motherrunner · 10/06/2021 07:15

Agree @Piggy. It need an outside agency delivering it. Not me, P5 Friday when I’m knackered.
