You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

That's the one.

I think Burnham is playing the long game.

Two annoying things today. Got observed for a full hour by 2 members of SLT. No feedback until all teachers have been observed - in 14 working day's time. What's the point in that? Then head emailed saying that she can now see who isn't reporting their covid results online - a) tye whole thing is voluntary, b) I'm still doing the tests, c) THE WHOLE THING IS VOLUNTARY.
@Timeturnerplease My class is the opposite: very boy-heavy, so there's lots of silliness in corridors and occasional bouts of fisticuffs because they're all sick of each other after a year in a tiny one-class bubble.
One of my colleagues described the year 8 corridor as the Malaga strip on a club 18-30 weekend.

Interesting how different schools do it. Glad we have the canteen though as it would be too much to eat in classrooms. It sounds an absolute nightmare.

Piggywaspushed · 09/06/2021 18:31

I just got in a shouting match with a charming bunch of teens outside my house . It's not been great since the weather warmed up and we have a chip shop. It was a girl who was most obnoxious.

JanFebAnyMonth · 09/06/2021 18:33

Oh piggy (was it teacher voice shouting?)
Flowers

Piggywaspushed · 09/06/2021 18:37

It was. It did have an added swear. Sorry but only " Get off the fucking fence" seemed to work.

Staff told in last two days that sixth form induction is not happening f2f, even though was going to be split over 5 days, but virtually. Feel sad for DD.
Also that end of year exams are moving to Sept for all but Y12.

We have a LAC in Y11 who appears to have been made to come back to school until 25 June. So they’re just sitting in the library on a laptop all day doing the Bridging work for sixth form. Is this the same for all LACs?

Feel like some kind of exhausted being but final moderation is over! Observation went really well, DH stopped writing as the just wanted to enjoy the lesson and thought it was fab and my folder is pretty much there!

So unbelievably happy. Still a couple of weeks to exam board though.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 09/06/2021 18:58

Hooray, name. Well done!

Our Head has just announced that as of next week we are going to start the catch-up programme for all remaining year groups with gained year 11 and 13 time with a very complicated new timetable. It’s being received by staff ….well.

Let me guess, along with all the other things they want you to do (reports, Sept timetables etc) Grin
WhenSheWasBad · 09/06/2021 19:27

name that’s wonderful you must be over the moon.

Fossie gutted for you. I think our headteacher was planning but thankfully it’s not happening.

ChloeDecker · 09/06/2021 19:28

independent vaccination advisory committee.

Made up of Cummings at the time by any chance!? Grin

So, they are the ones who went against WHO guidelines then? Bet they got their vaccinations early and/or worked a lot from home/behind a screen. Hmm

Piggy not sure why they're not taking action - it's his parents the action would be against in reality. Isn't it up to 10k fine for not following isolation? If he was an adult he could be prosecuted, as a child his parents should be being shaken up at least by the threat of being prosecuted and a public example made.

I'm kind of cruising along on a cloud of less than 6 weeks to go, la la la, fingers in my ears! Some kind of drama going on between colleague and hod and hod was incredibly rude and unprofessional to colleague who then needed me to confirm that we had been chasing hod about clarification of something for half a term without response and she wasn't going crazy.

Aiming to stay out of it but if asked will have to back up colleague. She's only in her second year of teaching and obviously her nqt year was cut short and we are often completely in the dark about what's going on because hod isn't exactly ahead of the curve.

Had another could we meet at x time on so and so day from hod that pertains to a time outside of my working hours. Have politely said no I have plans but I can happily see you after last period (but she refuses to stay after school). No idea what it's about but no I'm not coming in an hour early any more than she would be willing to meet me on a sunday.

Not going to let any of this get to me though because I know I'm doing well and my groups are doing well and I'm pulling my weight so all of the additional drama is not my circus iyswim.

I'm having a g&t and reminding myself to shake it off.

TheHoneyBadger · 09/06/2021 19:39

Well done Name - sorry I posted too soon.

It feels like it's all too much and hell in a hand basket stations at various pinch points but no one is going to hell and you can only do what you can do in the time available. Realistically if it seems like a lot of pressure to you as someone who has worked in schools for years, raised a family etc then it IS a lot of pressure and it's definitely not you and everyone must be in the same boat and no one can expect miracles. Keep swimming - not long to go.

HarrietDVane · 09/06/2021 19:52

Wonderful news Name! We knew you could do it - well done! Grin

CarrieBlue · 09/06/2021 20:00

Congratulations name, you’ve done so well to make it through

JanFebAnyMonth · 09/06/2021 20:23

Congrats to name - took me a while to work out why your husband was in school though Grin.

MrsHamlet · 09/06/2021 20:41

Whoop name

noblegiraffe · 09/06/2021 20:45

Well done name!

I, on the other hand, spent a not insignificant amount of time this evening trying to put a double duvet into a single duvet cover. It didn't fit.

MsAwesomeDragon · 09/06/2021 20:52

Well done name!!!! You've done incredibly well to get through the most difficult year of your career.
