You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Well why not. If you are going to run an u ethical trial, you might as well make it as unethical and unhelpful to your aim of reducing spread as possible.

JanFebAnyMonth · 07/06/2021 17:21

Fab news noble....

Hancock also said in the Commons today, that, while the evidence shows the impact of Covid in children is usually minimal, we also “know there is higher transmissibility among children”. So he urges secondary children to test twice a week, to “protect the education of your peers”.

Yeah- Bob will really rise to that challenge...

CallmeHendricks · 07/06/2021 17:22

I despair. I just despair. Do they NEVER learn?

noblegiraffe · 07/06/2021 17:29

know there is higher transmissibility among children

Angry Angry Angry

Remember this from last August? “ The study also found staff members were more likely to be affected by the virus than students, though not more likely than the general population as a whole.

Where children did contract the infection, they were most likely to catch COVID-19 at home, usually from a parent.

Half the outbreaks did not involve any students at all and transmission between students was very rare.”

We knew it was based on when there were hardly any kids back in school. These people are supposed to be clever. Hmm

No. They’re all Bobs, but lacking his common sense, empathy and compassion.
HarveySchlumpfenburger · 07/06/2021 17:32

There need to be some actual consequences for poor decision making for them to learn. Unfortunately the consequences keep being for other people and they carry on doing fine in the polls.

Hope today went ok name.

I joined the no sleep club too and don’t even have school as an excuse. Have reached epic levels of workplace procrastination today. Hopefully your reports went better than my spreadsheet has, rule.

JanFebAnyMonth · 07/06/2021 17:33

Yeah....

See Gav’s pronouncements on recovery (AKA why that nasty man Kevan, who I once thought was alright, is wrong) at 1705 and 1711. Training money for teachers!

Also Caroline Lucas’s question at 1630. Interesting that Hancock didn’t take the opportunity to say “And we’ll never bring masks back!”.

HarrietDVane · 07/06/2021 17:33

We had an INSET day today. I'm dreading the children coming back. Goodness knows how many will have been away and as they don't test we won't know if they've brought Covid back until someone gets symptoms. Very few staff are fully vaccinated - I've had one jab but plenty of the younger teachers haven't even had that. Sad

CallmeHendricks · 07/06/2021 17:40

"These people are supposed to be clever."
Well, I suppose you could argue that they are, insofar as they got a large portion of MN the population believing them that teachers were fussing about nothing.

ChloeDecker · 07/06/2021 17:42

I've had one jab but plenty of the younger teachers haven't even had that.

Absolutely this. A colleague in my own department in their 20s still not called up for vaccination yet.

If I see one more poster moaning about the vaccine yet they are already double dosed, I think I will scream!

CallmeHendricks · 07/06/2021 17:43

We had Zoom staff meeting this morning. 25 people on the call, and we were asked who was double jabbed. I think about 8 hands went up.

Medra · 07/06/2021 17:48

First day back done. No positives, but that’s no surprise because we don’t have many who test.
We have lots of staff (like me) who have only had one vaccine. And we’ve got the joy of all the QA stuff being back this half-term.

TheHoneyBadger · 07/06/2021 18:11

3 confirmed positive cases of students themselves or a sibling. Sincerely hope it will all be fine but next couple of weeks could be interesting given the increased mixing over the holiday - we'll see.

Don't know if those cases were symptomatic and pcr'd or just picked up by an lft and then confirmed by pcr.

Kids were alright - definitely calmer and easier than when they came back in March and it was nice to see my year 8s out of the grotty, acoustic hell of the maths block and in a comparatively airy and spacious room.

They all seemed half asleep now I think of it - I always forget the first day is when they're all exhausted because they've gotten up early for the first time in a while and didn't manage to get to sleep at a decent hour.

WhenSheWasBad · 07/06/2021 18:22

I wish I could say the same at my school. Year 9 were ok. Seemed a bit bored, I don’t blame them we are doing a ton of revision lessons and it is rather dull.

Year 8 are as noisy as hell. Not just my class, loads of others have commented. Year 7 are the same as ever.

Hope everyone is ok today, sounds like lots of people are tired.

cornercupboard · 07/06/2021 18:23

Two schools closed in my leafy south west area: you'll like this, Republicans - one of those closures entirely due to a superspreader from the National Tutoring Programme!

My lot were also sleepy and not engaged today - half of them look like they could have gone back to bed (as could I, another member of the Crap Sleep Club).

6 weeks to go...

noblegiraffe · 07/06/2021 18:25

Oh that's almost as good as when the Ofsted inspector got covid and closed a school because all of SLT were close contacts.

noblegiraffe · 07/06/2021 18:34

Sir Michael Wilshaw has just been made acting head of JFS which is a Jewish free school in Brent.

I guess we can't complain about him being out of touch any more?

Piggywaspushed · 07/06/2021 18:36

Goodness. Did they not have any other applicants??

noblegiraffe · 07/06/2021 18:38

I am sure the staff are delighted. We know what he thinks about staff morale.

Appuskidu · 07/06/2021 18:48

GuyFawkesDay · 07/06/2021 18:59

3 positive cases and a staff member isolating. Great start to summer term 😩
Joining you on the "need an early night" after being a very enthusiastic (?) Member of the no sleep club last night. Ugh.

Year 9 are mainly couldn't care less at the moment. Year 7 noisier. Like annoying puppies. Yr8 were lovely but I have the nicest class ever. They're my sweet relief from madness in the week!!

Piggywaspushed · 07/06/2021 19:01

Don't want to post on corona board for obvious reasons but I am pondering my raised inflammatory markers.

Anyone know whether this has been a sign of long covid? Trouble is I don't know I had covid as it was last March but I have felt crap since.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 07/06/2021 19:06

Haven't JFS had problems before?

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 07/06/2021 19:10

I managed to get my year 3 reports written (half the class). Which is a bit shit, but also pretty good for me compared to usual. I'm a last minute merchant. I can at least hand over a decent chunk to SLT for checking.

Mostly spent the day sorting out shoddy PPTs and notebooks made by other people.

Then remembered I'm running staff meeting tomorrow night. Oops.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 07/06/2021 19:33

Remember my no sugar thing? Well I've discovered the perfect no sugar pudding. Not 'real' sugar anyway.

Raspberries and strawberries, salted date peanut butter and M&S squirty cream (no added sugar). OMG. I'm thinking that with greek yoghurt instead of the cream, it could almost be breakfast.
