First in tops up the gin supplies and turns on the tea urn.

Having listening to Ferguson on The Marr Show this morning (100,000 cases and 1000 hospitalisations a day definitely predicted, soon; double those figures is possible; numbers won’t start declining until mid-Aug to mid-September), am now wondering if I should rethink

A) my volunteering for school testing station pre Sept term - there’ll be loads of cases rolling up, won’t there? Some of whom will have been abroad, too. Although maybe that’s safer than staying in the UK....

B) the idea of us meeting up. Any thoughts?

noblegiraffe · 18/07/2021 12:02

A proposal: we arrange the meet-up for after August 16. That means that we won’t have to worry about needing to isolate if close contact and messing up holiday plans. We can also see vulnerable family members before then if worried about catching and spreading.
And if worried about catching at the meet-up, that can be balanced against the expectation that in a couple of weeks time we’ll be expected to go into schools with no mitigation measures, unvaccinated kids and covid spreading like wildfire. Against that backdrop, a meet-up of vaccinated adults sounds reasonable.

And if the world’s on fire by then we can cancel.

Yup noble, fair!

CallmeHendricks · 18/07/2021 12:10

Sounds good, noble, except I'm going away on the 21st so I bet it turns out that I can't make it. Sad

noblegiraffe · 18/07/2021 12:13

Finding a date is going to be a pain…

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 18/07/2021 12:17

I had a quick look at the Warwick paper that they used for the modelling, the other day. Their uppper limit on hospitalisations is 2.5k a day.

I don’t really get the strategy. I think I understand the theory, but I don’t get how we get from where we are now to a natural peak before Sept when schools go back. It would be different if they were hinting they were going to vaccinate children or were considering pushing the start of term back.

HSHorror · 18/07/2021 12:18

I know of someone in the trial after contact. So still dropping kids at school- a week later there are cases in 2/3 of the dc classes. Rates here are high but it's not impossible.

I do think passports for the pub etc would have been a good think at least temporarily.
If not jabbed outside only....

DT reporting they’re definitely not going to vax 12-15 year olds unless CEV or living with CEV

noblegiraffe · 18/07/2021 12:29

Guess who has a thread going about that, Jan?

Wasn’t sure whether the broom cupboard would be triple locked in the holiday: obviously not!

HarrietDVane · 26/08/2021 15:52

Dusting off the chairs (are we allowed those now?) and recoiling in horror because someone has left milk in the fridge over the summer. Also, the biscuits have gone soft.

JanglyBeads · 26/08/2021 17:57

🤮 @HarrietDVane.

No magnums hiding in the freezer I suppose?

Just a thought.

cantkeepawayforever · 26/08/2021 18:17

I think there's probably a box of very random chocs delivered as a gift on the last day of term without a label.

TheHoneyBadger · 26/08/2021 18:24

You can guarantee I've hidden a batch of fruit gin here somewhere.

Amused me that someone talking about duel teaching on other thread - I would much rather teach them duelling than dual teach Smile

I've spent today on Prevent, FGM and Consent training. Woohoo. Thank god for chocolate.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 26/08/2021 18:31

In between trolling twitter people who are concerned about this Pen Farthing eejit.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 26/08/2021 18:32

No, not trolling... I am just commenting on the opposing side of the whole thing. They just keep telling me to piss off.

JanglyBeads · 26/08/2021 18:41

Pen Farthing eejit?

AuntLydiasNewHairdo · 26/08/2021 18:59

Someone should, Rule.

MrsHamlet · 26/08/2021 19:07

Hercisback · 26/08/2021 19:08

Honey I hope you're sharing the gin again!

cantkeepawayforever · 26/08/2021 19:10

@MrsHamlet

I hope its blackberry *@TheHoneyBadger*... that is tasty!
3 litres of that, with blackberries still in, currently in the larder, being shaken regularly.

Christmas. We can drink it at Christmas....

So pleased my new little job doesn’t require this. OTOH I think I will be bored witless, so now thinking about supply again.
ChloeDecker · 26/08/2021 19:16

You have just reminded me Rule that on my INSET next week, one of the sessions has been earmarked for Cognitive Load Theory. Oh the joys.
