First in tops up the gin supplies and turns on the tea urn.

The team do seem lovely. All the, 'I look like a PE teacher don't I?' and comments about school uniform just made them seem so young and endearing.

It's not a late start for teachers obviously - just optional for kids. If I was teaching early periods I'd probably take in biscuits and do something lovely with the ones who couldn't stay home because of parents work.

Mind you current school chose to completely ignore the NQT 90%, so I was expecting the same from new school. Instead they’ve been extremely generous.
The NQT time is statutory!!!

WhenSheWasBad · 09/07/2021 20:59

The NQT time is statutory

I know MrsH

I did question it with the school (3 times). Each time I was told, that’s not what we do at XXX. You lot told me to get my union involved. I should have taken your advice.

Oh well, it’s in the past now. And if I coped with that in a Covid year, next years workload should be mor manageable.

MrsHamlet · 09/07/2021 21:05

I'd have whooped their arses!

WhenSheWasBad · 09/07/2021 21:08

I'd have whooped their arses

They need a MrsH at that school.

MrsHamlet · 09/07/2021 21:23

They need to follow the statutory requirements!

MsAwesomeDragon · 09/07/2021 21:31

No late start on Monday for my school. Several kids told me today that they won't be in on Monday though, as they already know they will be "ill". That's fine by me. I rather suspect there will be a lot of "illness" next week as it's the last week of term and they don't want to have to isolate in the holidays.

The DofE gold expedition goes out tomorrow, and they were all told to go home today after their kit inspection, specifically so they won't have to isolate if they would be a close contact today. It was very strange, with that decision being made apparently without the agreement of the head of sixth form or the attendance officer.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 09/07/2021 21:40

Do you think with all these closed bubbles, lots of it being kicked off by staff LFTs, that the gov are wishing they'd prioritised school staff for vaccines?

Hercisback · 09/07/2021 21:40

No late start here either. I expect an attendance lull and some jaded kids. I'm fine with that. To be honest my last week is so disrupted by isolating students already they may as well all be off. I have 5/28 year 10 students in on Monday. I can't do new stuff as there's so few of them, who knows what I will do.

I need to count up our days. We have a specified inset session looking at directed time. I think people may have already complained!

Hercisback · 09/07/2021 21:44

We have 7 inset days planned. That doesn't seem right....

MrsHamlet · 09/07/2021 21:52

7???? 189+5. The 5 can be disagregated

Hercisback · 09/07/2021 21:54

I think it may be a typo. I'm going to get it checked by the union rep. If it is a typo then we have done all inset by Christmas which seems spectacularly bad planning.

Hercisback · 09/07/2021 21:55

Unless the covid inset can be "carried over". We didn't use one of them...

MrsHamlet · 09/07/2021 22:02

Nope. Can't carry them over.

HarrietDVane · 09/07/2021 22:31

No late start for us on Monday, but I'm not expecting a full house - partly football related and partly the annual exodus of EAL kids heading abroad for the summer. Many of them won't have seen grandparents since summer 2019 so I really don't blame them for heading off a bit early.

We haven't been given details of all the Inset days yet - I only know we have two before the children come back in September. I hope we are getting the extra time from the BH somewhere.

DreamingofBrie · 18/07/2021 09:54

Only a few posts until the Republic thread is full, but I just wanted to post on here that I am watching Andrew Marr and would really like to give Robert Jenrick a slap Hmm.

Piggywaspushed · 18/07/2021 10:09

God, me too : did you hear him saying the school holidays would reduce and control transmission? Fuckers.

noblegiraffe · 18/07/2021 10:34

Forgot to mention, piggy, I got a letter from Nadine. She reckons the government are pouring loads of money into mental health resources for kids.

I'll file it with my letter from Nick Gibb saying that schools have loads of protective measures against covid.

ChloeDecker · 18/07/2021 11:07

Interesting from Rishi here. Definitely not all picked at random, eh!?

Oh how lovely for you noble.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 18/07/2021 11:40

From what I can see on Twitter, there seems to be a third pilot study involving Downing Street & 20 companies. This seems to be different to both the school one and the general T&T one where people are randomly assigned to a group.

All the coverage of the u-turn does seem to be covering over the fact jenrick said cases might not break until late August or even Sept. I though get the whole point was that they were supposed to peak before schools went back and before autumn. Otherwise we’re entering autumn with schools going back just as cases & hopitalisations are the highest they’ve ever been. Which is presumably worst case scenario. Surely, it just negates the whole point of infecting everyone now.

Piggywaspushed · 18/07/2021 11:41

Neil Ferguson on before Jenrick said mid September. And, without using the exact words, seemed to agree that herd immunity via young people was being pursued.

MrsHamlet · 18/07/2021 11:42

Seems similar here - we had to fill in a survey this year, listing our qualifications! I'm guessing it was in anticipation of an inspection in the future.
We had to do this a few years ago, and then they changed our email signatures to have all our post nominal letters. It was ridiculous - now the only people who do are the ones who've asked to share them.

JanFebAnyMonth · 18/07/2021 11:54

Rafa, don’t impute sense to those who don’t have it/use it! Letting cases run riot now wasn’t about getting it done before schools went back, but about Boris fearing his own MPs and a vague idea of it being better now than in the winter flu season (which ok links to schools a bit)
