I actually looked up whether that is legal . Sadly, it is.

noblegiraffe · 11/09/2021 09:11

Well if Us4Them start protesting outside schools the penny might drop about how despicable they actually are.

I suspect they'll keep their name out of it though.

JanglyBeads · 11/09/2021 11:05

What dangling said.

Here’s a story about the importance of school and of teachers:

Bloody hell that little girl and her family were so brave. I've seen the famous photo but I didn't realise she didn't actually get taught with the other kids and her family was ostracised.

JanglyBeads · 11/09/2021 12:02

I know noble, that’s amazing isn’t it. I imagine it wasn’t exactly easy for that one teacher that agreed to teach her, either.

Here’s an article I’m not allowed to post on Data because it comes from inews. Next week should tell whether it’s reliable or not!

inews.co.uk/news/politics/covid-lockdown-guidance-new-restrictions-boris-johnson-warning-winter-fears-1193808?fbclid=IwAR1bNBkP9ro4KTKbs60XigvF5MAD-Gv-hCHk6N8iP7p1q4nl0rO3uTAodoE

Vaccines for 12-15 yos to be announced next week, alongside other plans.

noblegiraffe · 11/09/2021 12:10

The Telegraph (or Anti-Lockdown News as I like to think of them although I suspect they would be acceptable on the data thread) are going heavily against vaccine boosters with two front page stories in two days. I think I also saw an article there about a backbench revolt against the govt plans to vaccinate 12+.

JanglyBeads · 11/09/2021 12:33

You’d think they might have better things to do....

JanglyBeads · 11/09/2021 13:26

Aha, Beeb reporting announcements next week now!

Last sentence of their article says this, what does the schools bit mean??

“According to BBC Political Correspondent Ione Wells, a government source has said ministers planned to repeal the "vast majority" of the regulations but certain measures would be kept - such as the requirement to self-isolate on receiving a positive PCR test and the power to keep schools open, including in periods they would not usually be.”

JanglyBeads · 11/09/2021 13:27

Is the the bit that meant some schools stayed open to key worker children over Easter holidays 2020?

FlagsFiend · 11/09/2021 13:57

If it does mean that I'm not sure how they'd staff it. It's one thing to ask people to volunteer as an emergency measure when everything else is shut. Can't see many volunteers in a normal holiday, especially if they have children if their own. We had a few staff do summer school but that was paid and only a week out of 6, quite different to give up a week if there are only 2 to start with...

Appuskidu · 11/09/2021 14:05

No way would I be doing free ‘childcare’ over the holidays whilst teaching my usual hours. I don’t think they would get any takers after the last year.

noblegiraffe · 11/09/2021 14:13

Extended school hours?

ChloeDecker · 11/09/2021 14:58

Especially as we now know Appuskidu, that we would not be acknowledged for it and would continue to be vilified. The general public reap what they sow, in my opinion and good will is the latest casualty.

Howshouldibehave · 11/09/2021 15:18

And I could see people thinking that teachers working ‘free’ through the holidays so that parents don’t have to pay childcare would be seized by many (DM!) as being the solution to all of society’s problems. I can see that it would very soon become expected and demands and expectations put on it. They’d probably call it ‘catch up’ and have a whole new Ofsted team to come and inspect it!
CallmeHendricks · 11/09/2021 15:51

I know it's not going to happen, but this idea of a 2 week firebreak half term in October... It's been referred to as a holiday. How's that going to work then? Take a week off somewhere else? Or does it actually mean one week of remote learning?

noblegiraffe · 11/09/2021 15:55

It's always referred to as a holiday for teachers when schools are closed, Ange even though it's far more work and a complete ballache compared to when they're open.

It'd be remote learning. We're all experts at it now Hmm

DanglingMod · 11/09/2021 16:21

It really would be the last straw for me if half terms became fire breaks even once, let alone on a semi regular basis. So school children and school staff have to work hard for 6-8 weeks, then get locked down over our breaks with no socialising or holidays allowed...then back to the grind. How is that fair?

WhenSheWasBad · 11/09/2021 17:00

I would be beyond furious about this too Dangling teaching in a stuffy room with over 150 unvaccinated kids. And then housebound over the holidays.

TheHoneyBadger · 11/09/2021 17:17

Agree dangling.

Also agree! Ffs....

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 11/09/2021 18:08

I was informed by my partner that locking down over half term would be sensible, and tough luck to me, it was worth it. This was 2 days ago, things are still slightly strained from the consequent 'animated conversation'.

JanglyBeads · 11/09/2021 18:10

Oh dear Rule....

MrsHamlet · 11/09/2021 18:13

I'm meant to be going to Barcelona at half term avd I will be so pissed off if I work my arse off all term and then can't go.

Can totally imagine your fury.

Families wouldn't stand for it, would they, either?

CallmeHendricks · 11/09/2021 18:45

Judging by the attitudes on the main boards these days, no one would abide by it anyway.
