I've just booked a random flight to Lisbon for half term. Blind optimism? Probably.

WhenSheWasBad · 09/09/2021 22:59

You’re brave rule. I’ve gone wild and planned a night out.

Had to drop books off for kids studying at home with Covid. There were about 15 piles today, so that’s 15 pupils. Just waiting to catch the damned thing now.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 09/09/2021 23:18

We've got insurance that includes covid cancellation.

Absolutely no excitement at all when booking the flight, whereas usually I'd be super excited. Just expecting it all to go to shit again.

echt · 10/09/2021 02:08

I went for a body imaging scan yesterday, and when I went into the doughnut and it revved up, the whirring sound was rather like a jet plane, though muted. I was quite excited, not been on a plane in ages. :o As close as I'll get to flying for a while, though I do have my Covid vaccine passport.

Now I think of it, my passport has expired so I'll need that renewed as a just in case.

Iamnotthe1 · 10/09/2021 06:46

It has been nice having a more normal classroom: I already feel relatively connected to this class in a way that took significantly more time last year. Just wheeling around the classroom, live marking, pulling groups, having mini-discussions, etc has made all the difference.

We've our first whole school assembly coming up. I'm predicting tears from some of the staff, particularly when the children sing.

TheHoneyBadger · 10/09/2021 09:22

That makes sense 13

Im hoping if they ever do a booster to everyone that the AZ jabbed can at least choose whether to have that or pfizer.

TheHoneyBadger · 10/09/2021 17:42

That would be good HS - I had AZ despite being 45 because I was called up as a health thing rather than waiting for my age group.

Interview with Jonathan Slater, the permanent secretary of the DfE who was sacked over the algorithm scandal so that Gav could keep his job. Quite interesting.

A quote to tempt in piggy:

"His solution for now is that government uses more qualitative rather than quantitative information before making decisions and measuring impact.

One of the policies he’s proudest of is Opportunity Areas, but interestingly he doesn’t think hard government targets are the way forward: “It’s a relatively recent phenomenon, this idea that you judge the success of something on a numerical target.” The advantage is “you can say tick, it’s done, but the disadvantage is it might not relate to reality and how people are actually finding it on the ground.”

Hercisback · 10/09/2021 18:18

Noble that quote encapsulates everything wrong with education.

13luckyblackcats · 10/09/2021 19:04

Aw @echt that made me laugh! Hope you get to go on a real plane soon.

PumpkinPie2016 · 10/09/2021 19:08

Hope everyone is ok and has had a good week Smile I haven't been on here much this week as I have been crazy busy!

Met all of my classes now and really enjoyed teaching all of them Smile Feeling really positive about the year ahead!

I also started my MA (online) this week which has been interesting but a lot of work as I haven't done academic reading for a while Confused

Glad it's the weekend now though!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 10/09/2021 20:21

Positive case in my class. Another possible. Yaaaaay. FFS.

JaffavsCookie · 10/09/2021 20:35

Also liking more normal school but absolutely shattered and have some very feral classes. Still to meet 2 groups but have taught 23/24 lessons this week.
We have gone back to making the kids move, but kept year group areas at the start of the day and at breaks as slt felt there was less aggro that way.

MsAwesomeDragon · 10/09/2021 20:39

Welcome to the club Rule. I've got 10 positive cases (some are waiting for PCR results but have positive LFTs) in one year 11 class. I feel like I'm bound to catch it from them.

MsAwesomeDragon · 10/09/2021 20:40

We never moved, it was always the kids moving at our school. We did have outdoor year areas last year but this year we've gone with anywhere outside is ok.

The ES interview with Gav including his black footballer mix up. Apparently (again) he’s about to be reshuffled; his pet tarantula has transitioned, he’s BFF with the unions and his mum and dad vote Labour.......

DfE says covid doesn't spread in schools educationhub.blog.gov.uk/2021/09/10/what-the-experts-say-schools-are-not-drivers-of-covid-infection/

JanglyBeads · 10/09/2021 23:43

They can Df-Off

TheHoneyBadger · 11/09/2021 04:23

Yeah because everyone knows that crowded, indoor, poorly ventilated conditions used for extended periods of time totally repels covid Hmm

I slept early but then woke up at 1.30am and am still awake. Hoping to get at least a couple of hours before my hairdresser comes at 9.30am.

OP posts:
winewolfhowls · 11/09/2021 07:48

Ooh you have a visiting hairdresser, that's both posh and a good idea.

I've just signed up for a milkman as one of my time saving and convenience ideas for this year

I’ve been reading about their cherry picked Us4Them ‘experts’. Grrrrr. The same ‘experts’ also spout this nonsense….

CallmeHendricks · 11/09/2021 08:13

So, these CO2 monitors, if and when delivered. What actually happens when they go off, indicating what we already know that a classroom has been excess levels?
Any window that opens will presumably already be open.
So, then what?

DanglingMod · 11/09/2021 08:20

Nada.

noblegiraffe · 11/09/2021 08:50

Well here's something to look forward to as the vaccine debate hots up. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4345689-Protesters-at-schools
