Oh no Dolly, hope you're over it quickly.

Fossie · 07/09/2021 18:11

@Fossie

Pupils in today after 2 inset days. Already 3 teachers and 1 office staff member have tested positive. And so it begins again.

I was just glad to be in today as I missed the first 2 weeks last September when I kicked off the year with Coronavirus myself. I wonder how long before we run out of teachers.

We ran out of teachers. We have a mixture of in school testing and at home learning for the rest of this week. Hopefully next week most will be back but at least 2 teachers are very unwell so there are no guarantees.
JanglyBeads · 07/09/2021 18:19

So your school’s moved totally online fossie? Hope all recover soon.

HarrietDVane · 07/09/2021 18:21

So sorry Dolly - I hope it passes quickly and you're not badly affected.

JanglyBeads · 07/09/2021 18:43

How’s this for an example of 🤮 attendance rewarding (in the middle of a pandemic):

HSHorror · 07/09/2021 18:57

I know jangly. Plus taking it back if theyve been off.

HSHorror · 07/09/2021 18:58

Hope you feel better soon Dolly.

TheHoneyBadger · 07/09/2021 19:01

Wow - welcome back, sorry your mum died, now hand in your badge and go to the back of the lunch queue.

We had 6/7 positive on LFTs waiting on PCRs to confirm.
I think though we’ve asked siblings to stay at home and take PCR and return if negative which I’m pleased about. My school are usually totally over the top about attendance so I’m surprised but pleased.

phlebasconsidered · 07/09/2021 19:19

Can I just ask- if you or your kids test positive what will you do? I would do my best to keep everyone off.
Have just had a big big panic row with partner as several families that we know are positive are STILL sending their secondary kids in on the minibus. I am not happy with this. It's literally a 12 seater with 3 positive parent kids in.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 07/09/2021 19:52

Child in my son's new friendship group for Year 7 has covid...

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 07/09/2021 20:42

Good luck @DollyMixtureLulus

That is worrying phelba I’ve just resigned myself to catching it. No measures at my school, I’m teaching kids who have a Covid positive sibling at home.
Autumn is going to be tricky.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 07/09/2021 21:13

We'll be carrying on as per guidance if one of us gets it. We've decided that this is the only way to 'do' it this time around. Just too many (probably ill informed) decisions to make, even though we know that the gov are being shit.

motherrunner · 08/09/2021 06:19

We’ll be carrying on as usual too. Obviously DH and I would split childcare (we’re allowed first day off with dependents paid) but apart from that we’ll be in and I’ll still send the other sibling in. It seems inevitable now!

Mistressiggi · 08/09/2021 06:54

We've had several positives in my ds' class at school, he has had symptoms but has tested negative in a PCR. I was convinced this time was "it". So now looking forward to each of the rest of us picking up his stinking cold and needing to be off to test for that!

Piggywaspushed · 08/09/2021 07:25

We have only just done our first round of testing (despite them all having been in school for two days). Only got 3 cases in large schools but I know from personal experience now how rubbish these LFTs are. 1 had a known contact (hmm.. hadn't done a PCR then?) and two were in school unwell!

HSHorror · 08/09/2021 10:21

Surely though the wave scotland are getting england are also getting but more hidden as no compulsory pcr.

Piggywaspushed · 08/09/2021 10:46

Good Point!

TheHoneyBadger · 08/09/2021 18:19

Knackered. School day plus after school CPD meeting but I only taught 2 lessons as we're still staggering in. I am rusty on silly things like distributing handouts and keeping an eye on the time and my voice was struggling. Friday I have 3 lessons back to back of the same lesson with the same year group so that will be boring good for re-honing all the basics and ironing out wrinkles. Nice groups so far.

Have to cut bloody ds's hair which I'm really not up for and have to cook something but beyond that is as far as it goes. My brain is fried.

Hope everyone is getting on ok.

I've booked a PCR test for 7:30 this evening. I've got 6 off now in year 11, 4 of whom were in my class yesterday. So I'm counting myself as a close contact even if nobody else counts me as one. I do also have some cold symptoms, although not one of the testable symptoms (yet)

DollyMixtureLulus · 08/09/2021 19:23

Thanks everyone. My head feels like it's full of cotton wool but I'm up and about!

Piggywaspushed · 08/09/2021 19:29

Yes, others describe it as feeling like your head is in a goldfish bowl!

I am finding driving hard ; I feel like my peripheral vision is kind of distorted.

phlebasconsidered · 08/09/2021 19:47

Hope you are feeling ok Dolly.

I've been told I have to do Google classroom for the kids off with Covid. I've refused. I've said i'll pc them a pack but I cannot do a google classroom and a real one simultaneously with no TA.

And the pupil of covid infected parents my child shares a minibus with has tested positive along with her sibling in our local primary and older sibling at college. This is going to be a bit of a shitstorm I think!

Mistressiggi · 08/09/2021 19:51

Are PCRs reliable? I think they are, dc has probably just a bad cold but has cough, temp but tested negative. I wish sometimes a professional (ie not me!) would do the tests so I could be sure it's done right. He has been in contact with positive cases at school.
