You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Well, we got slated whatever we provided. Too much/too little, too easy/too hard, too tech-based/too much printing required.
No one gave a monkeys that we were thrown in at the deep end with zero training or funding and most of us were perching at the kitchen table on our own little old laptops.
And now we're working all hours trying to scoop everyone back on the bus and move them along and we're getting all sorts of grief for that too.
Can you tell I've had enough? Been in this game too long, I think.
Maybe it's time to jack it in...

Piggywaspushed · 02/06/2021 19:03

Yes, Is aw my first 'what are teachers doing' comment on a thread for quite some time yesterday! Apparently when year 11 leave we all go and drink gin in gardens again.

noblegiraffe · 02/06/2021 19:04

You sound thoroughly fed-up, Ange, not surprised with the isolation ruining your half term on top of everything else.

I've started a thread. I didn't even mention covid.

Made mainstream media that Sir Kevan has resigned.

No doubt he will not be mentioned again or will just be referred to as being some ex-teacher who had ridiculously high expectations of the money that was ever going to be available for schools.

How much did they spaff to Dido Harding for T+T, whilst we’re talking about money...?!

Piggywaspushed · 02/06/2021 19:07

Hmmm... 17% have already voted that the government really acres.

How???????????

Sir KC resigning will be the unions' faults. You wait.

ChloeDecker · 02/06/2021 19:12

I’ll take my Pimms and show ‘em! Grin

HarrietDVane · 02/06/2021 19:17

LKS2 here - my class are pretty much where they should be, academically. They are, however, very immature in themselves - much less able than usual to resolve their own squabbles without adult support, and many of them believe they are the centre of the universe. I have had to work very hard to get a grip on behaviour following the spring term lockdown, but they have now adjusted to having boundaries again. The gaps they have are mostly social/emotional, not academic.

MsAwesomeDragon · 02/06/2021 19:20

Well actually, when year 11 and 13 leave I do gain 10 extra frees a week Grin. I will be given jobs like rewriting schemes of work to take account of things we haven't had time to teach properly this year, write new tests for the new schemes of work, etc. It won't be sitting on my backside time, but it also won't be anywhere near as strenuous as teaching that many exam classes.

cantkeepawayforever · 02/06/2021 19:20

many of them believe they are the centre of the universe

Yes, exactly that. They seem genuinely unable to deal with the fact that they need to listen to the adult who is teaching the class, and nobody is coming along afterwards to cajole them through the work.

Piggywaspushed · 02/06/2021 19:22

Are you a teacher, a parent of a school child, or are you a school pupil? Independent SAGE wants to hear from you. DM us or email your questions to [email protected]

On Twitter.

MrsHerculePoirot · 02/06/2021 19:22

Still a resounding silence from all the posters shouting about MH of children and the detriment to the poor disadvantaged children during lockdown.

Yes it was hard but just fucking own the fact you didn’t want your children at home rather than hide behind pretending to give a shit about other children. I know you all know that. I wanted to say it here and not elsewhere sorry!

Piggywaspushed · 02/06/2021 19:23

Yes, well, we'll see what they have to say on noble's new thread perhaps!

HarrietDVane · 02/06/2021 19:25

They seem genuinely unable to deal with the fact that they need to listen to the adult who is teaching the class, and nobody is coming along afterwards to cajole them through the work.

Absolutely! Stamina is shot to pieces as well - it was worse in September though! My class needed a lot of 'reminding' about my expectations for classroom behaviour and work in general. When they first came back, several of them seemed to imagine that writing anything was optional.

ChloeDecker · 02/06/2021 19:25

Yes. The bare minimum seems to be their mantra.
Our school last term has put on compulsory private style ‘prep’ (but called them ‘homework clubs) for pupils identified as needing further support and it can be such a frustrating waste of time for some where they write a couple of words, sometimes even a sentence and then claim to be done and then cause disruption.
There are better solutions out there than ‘stay in school for longer’ and it’s frustrating they are still not being explored.

MrsHamlet · 02/06/2021 19:27

Apparently when year 11 leave we all go and drink gin in gardens again.
I drink gin because of year 11!!! And I got three bottles from year 11 🤣

ChloeDecker · 02/06/2021 19:30

Yep MrsH where are they!? I can tell you that some are starting negative threads about teachers but I remember them on Mumsnet posting that they weren’t doing any work with their children during Jan etc. It’s just a vicious circle that again, is not going to be solved by failed ‘programmes’ from the govt. There is just too much anger and hate out there about schools in general.

noblegiraffe · 02/06/2021 20:11

I feel bad about having taken the piss out of Kevan when he signed up to the job, he seems to have more integrity than the lot of them put together.

Wondering when U4T will start flooding my thread with agreement. They are the only ones standing up for children after all.

SaltyAF · 02/06/2021 20:11

@TortolaParadise

Just a question - if extended days are needed for pupil 'catch up' and tuition is needed for pupil 'catch up' was remote learning a complete waste of all of our time? Just a question - feeling confused!!
This is a very good question. I worked my arse off to deliver quality online lessons, to the point that I sought CPD in order to help me do so. My own kids didn't have any remote lessons and were off for three weeks longer than England. Perhaps their school got it right - everybody is now in the same boat for no need for a catch up plan.

This is tongue in cheek by the way. I felt and say the impact of being sent endless photographed worksheets.

None of this is making any sense.

SaltyAF · 02/06/2021 20:11

WhenSheWasBad · 02/06/2021 20:14

Yes. The bare minimum seems to be their mantra

So agree with this. I kept one kid in for 1 minute at break to pull him up on his lack of work. He genuinely thought he’d done loads, he’d done 11 words the whole lesson SadShock

HobnobbingAboutHobnobs · 02/06/2021 20:18

@ChloeDecker

Have no idea why there are three Grin
I hope it's not a premonition! 😂 👶🏻👶🏻👶🏻

Thank you all, you're all so lovely.

Difficult for Kevan not to resign really, now that the media have picked up on how thoroughly the government are disregarding his recommendations.

CallmeHendricks · 02/06/2021 20:19

Have we seen this?

motherrunner · 02/06/2021 20:20

Our lunch break is 40 minutes. Would love to know how we’ll get 2000 kids through in 10 minutes 🤔

Piggywaspushed · 02/06/2021 20:21

Yes, I have seen it. That's 0 minutes lunch break for me then!

CallmeHendricks · 02/06/2021 20:21

Tosser.
