You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

Found a second hand iphone 7 reasonably priced that he can nearly cover with the remains of his birthday and Christmas money. It's a downgrade for him but that's a good thing in my book. It's £30 to replace a broken screen on an iphone 7 at my local repair place - it's £110 on an iphoneX! Given teenagers propensity for smashing screens I tend to think of costs like that.

Now I just have to deal with being permanently harassed about when the phone is going to arrive.

One saga dealt with! Now just have to get through tomorrow at school and drag home a load of books to mark.

JanFebAnyMonth · 20/05/2021 19:00

It started raining heavily during my duty, but there was some light in the sky and I kept thinking how I really didn’t want to have to deal with all in form rooms, so stood my ground, and thankfully it stopped!

13luckyblackcats · 20/05/2021 19:10

Reception. Wild today. In an observation. We just all laughed in the end. Could have been hysteria.

Piggywaspushed · 20/05/2021 19:18

I love my year 11s and don't want them to go.

Unhelpful post.

year 9s are little shits though

HarrietDVane · 20/05/2021 19:18

Another exhausted rabbit in the headlights here. Torrential rain meant wet play and lunch so they were like wild animals. Then I'd forgotten that we were having another ^^ pointless learning walk this afternoon, which was just marvellous. Finally crawled out to my car at 6.45. Thank goodness it's Friday tomorrow.

MrsHamlet · 20/05/2021 19:22

One of my year 13 cried today. She'll be the first in her family to go to uni and she's going to do English.
I'm so proud of her. There might have been an eye leak here.
Bob shook my hand today. I'm going to miss him.

motherrunner · 20/05/2021 19:47

I say goodbye to my Yr 13s tomorrow. The brightest class I have ever taught - out of 9 pupils we have 5 A*s. The are also the most lovely girls I have ever met. I can feel myself getting emotional already!

JanFebAnyMonth · 20/05/2021 19:54

We’re all going to miss Bob Grin

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 20/05/2021 20:00

Wow I forget (due to February weather), that it's the end of May. Will they get an A-level results day? Can they do parties now? Finishing A-levels and skipping out of the door was amazing - I went straight to Europe with a train ticket.

I feel much sadder for secondary kids leaving school without the celebrations than I do year 6s leaving without a 'prom'.

I was out of class all day today, only had to deal with two Bob incidents, so quite a relaxing day.

motherrunner · 20/05/2021 20:03

A level results day is 10th August and GCSE the 12th.

motherrunner · 20/05/2021 20:04

No parties, no proms unfortunately but we’re going to get all the school out on the field tomorrow in group bubbles to wave them off at lunchtime.

noblegiraffe · 20/05/2021 20:18

Oh, Sean Harford’s leaving Ofsted. He was actually ok. He did the Ofsted Myths stuff that got rid of a lot of the ‘we do it for Ofsted’ workload.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 20/05/2021 20:54

I need to work out how to monitor effectively enough that I can get rid of marking and do whole class feedback. I know who I can trust to actually engage with the books and give effective feedback, but have some individuals who will just interpret it as 'won't bother marking then'.

Because at the moment it all feels like we're marking for Ofsted. I mean, I even write S in a circle when a child has been supported. Who needs to know that? They know, they were there - I know, I was there.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 20/05/2021 20:55

I feel like I've been hit by a bus today - exhausted and a bit ill. Getting a cold I think.

HarrietDVane · 20/05/2021 21:09

I am so exhausted, I am now wondering if it's a side effect of my jab at the weekend. I'm normally tired by this point but this is another level.

Timeturnerplease · 20/05/2021 22:02

Absolutely battered here too. My class of eight year olds have suddenly hit early puberty and literally cannot look at each other without causing offence (19 girls, the 11 boys are a dream compared to the girls).

Today there were tears over a hair flick. Apparently it was done ‘in a mean way’. I suggested that I cut all of their hair off to avoid this issue in the future, and I must have looked serious because they left me alone for the last five minutes of lunch to try and eat a bit of my roll.

MsAwesomeDragon · 20/05/2021 22:46

I've had a headache all day. Wet break and wet lunch meant I didn't get to see the other adults in the department, only the kids. My form are the only year 7 form with nobody in detention tomorrow for ignoring the lunchtime supervisors today. They seem to think they don't have to follow any rules at lunchtime Hmm

MsAwesomeDragon · 20/05/2021 22:47

time I like your thinking re cutting off all their hair. Good plan. They won't pester you again after that.

JanFebAnyMonth · 20/05/2021 23:36

I’m incredibly tired today too, strange. Only up now as wrapping presents for DD’s 16th tomorrow.... on the last day of her assessments! Well at lest am feeling better than this moment 16 years ago, about now was when the missives attending my planned home birth said if I didn’t manage to ‘shift’ her very soon (stuck at stage 2) they’d have to call an ambulance.

(Reader, she was born safely just over an hour later!)

Happy birthday to your dd for tomorrow, JanFeb. I hope she has a lovely day!

It's been wet and wild here today. Sorry to hear of those of us who are feeling unwell and exhausted. We have family visiting over half term, I'm really looking forward to it but think it might not be particularly relaxing! Dc are desperate to see their cousins though and it'll be great for my parents and siblings all to be together - first time in nearly 18 months. I'm already planning all of the food we're going to eat Grin.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 21/05/2021 01:56

Cannot sleep! No idea why. Am sure I will regret it in the morning.

Today our local vaccine hospital has put out links online for booking appointments for jabs. Not only have you not been able to book online previously (no central booking line for Wales) but also there are 2 links.. one for over 40s and one for under 40s so anyone who wants to can book on.

Progress at last.
I'm awaiting appointments showing for the week after whit as dd is up in York for uni but has stayed registered with her Welsh gp and I hope she can get her appt for the week after whit that she is staying home for before she goes back.

namechangedyetagain · 21/05/2021 03:15

Also awake here. Very windy, and thinking of the amount of work I have to do in the next few weeks meant I had an awful dream.

Which is annoying as I'm so tired and no doubt will be up very early. It is Friday isn't it?

motherrunner · 21/05/2021 05:37

I won’t if those parents who complained about the ‘poor disadvantaged’ will get off their sides and campaign for this:
