You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

Understanding different perspectives and contested events is also central to the study of history and should help to equip pupils to navigate a world of ‘fake news’ and clashing opinions and truths. Taking evidence into consideration, the Commission would welcome the government to set school leadership expectations around political neutrality and transparency on curriculum design. The Commission also recognises the need to better understand whether schools are teaching in an impartial way and recommends the DfE commission and publish research in this area.

Cos we have exactly the government right now who should be judging neutrality and impartiality in schools. This seems like a very slippery slope not just on the issue of race and what aspects of British history should be part of the curriculum and how they are approached.

That paragraph chills my bones.

Happy holidays everyone! Just a small matter of writing a 7000 word assignment for the 19th but apart from that a restful break awaits....

You made it! GinWineBrewCakeFlowers

I did once walk out on a sixth form class telling them I'd just leave them to their own stupidity one of my year 11s today told me that I was the distraction and they might learn more if I wasn't there Blush. I may have made a joke which took us off track, but I definitely did attempt to bring us back to learning some maths.

MrsHamlet · 01/04/2021 22:28

I may have sung part of "total eclipse of the heart" at year 11 today

That is a very worrying excerpt Shock

Last night managed to bang out 30 Yr 9 essays - mission today is 30 Yr 10 essays. My kids will be happy that they’ll be allowed unlimited roblox time. Then the plan is to mark coursework Saturday (10 students and as I have marked multiple drafts this will just be a case of annotating AOs and final grade) and then I’ll be cracking open the wine around 4!

My DH is a oractising Catholic so each year he and DD do Lent and as a by product so do I (mainly). This year DD gave us crisps and DH gave us crisps, chocolate, added sugar and bread. It has meant we haven’t had a pizza since Shrove Tuesday (we love pizza). Anyway instead of a roast Sunday we’re having Papa John’s with Diet Coke (also gave up fizzy drinks). I am beyond excited 😆

For all of us embroiled in CAGs:

mumsneedwine · 02/04/2021 07:48

@Piggywaspushed 😊 I have 82 papers to mark this Easter. Then another 82 to mark after Easter. On top of normal stuff.

mumsneedwine · 02/04/2021 07:49

@MrsHamlet I belted out We are the Champions at mine. Badly and loudly. They all think I'm nuts anyway but this cemented it.

motherrunner · 02/04/2021 08:00

@Piggywaspushed That’s brilliant 😆

motherrunner · 02/04/2021 08:03

“National security liability” 😆

Classic Piggy Grin

motherrunner · 02/04/2021 08:09

Oh, but we’re calling them ‘TAGs’ which always confused me when I get an email from HoD telling us something had gone in the ‘TAG folder’ and I’m looking for a tag to click onto 😆

eitak22 · 02/04/2021 08:17

Happy Easter everyone! Hope you manage to rest.

I Ended up asleep by 9.30, clearly exhausted by this term. Looking forward to 2 weeks to regroup.

noblegiraffe · 02/04/2021 08:18

“Sample questions include:
how many imaginary ways could you use a paperclip?”

Hahaha the correct answer is, of course, ‘not as many as I could imagine before I started school, damned sausage factories’

SmileEachDay · 02/04/2021 09:28

Hello all!

Everyone ok?

TheHoneyBadger · 02/04/2021 09:34

Ok here thanks.

Just trying to talk myself into having a productive day

SmileEachDay · 02/04/2021 09:35

I’m committed to wellbeing today.

My well-being. Boychild’s well-being.

There’s going to be lounging.

ChloeDecker · 02/04/2021 09:35

Yep Smile although isn’t it typical that all the good weather has gone!? Sweaty children in stuffy classrooms Monday to Wednesday and rubbish weather as soon as off!
Grrrr! Grin

SmileEachDay · 02/04/2021 09:38

I KNOW Chloe

motherrunner · 02/04/2021 10:35

Tbh I prefer this weather! Dry and cool. If it’s too warm my kids don’t like to be outside unless it’s somewhere shaded as they are always in super speed so tire easily in the warm. On a day like this we could be out all day.

Almost through a set of essays! My kids will be disappointed when I’ve finished and they have to get off roblox 😆

MrsHerculePoirot · 02/04/2021 10:48

Hi everyone. Another term down.

We’ve got this weekend to finish sorting and boxing and categorising everything into charity shop, stuff to sell, storage not to be seen until at least Oct half term and coming with us to the worlds smallest rental house with no storage we’re moving to on Thursday. Oh yes and making sure we’re ready for puppy arrival on the friday 🤣🤣🤣 oh and getting ready for DS birthday tomorrow!

TheHoneyBadger · 02/04/2021 11:18

Reading that piggy I wonder if unions should be doing more in the area of public, particularly parent, awareness. Eg masks:keeping schools open as campaigns or the like. Or masks mean teachers are able to help individual students again. I’m certainly a lot more likely to come out into the room when I and the kids are wearing masks.

I’ve managed a couple of games of mario karts and hanging out the washing. Not exactly productive and I’m starting to get a bit panicky that half my break has gone already
