You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

I have splashed out on a fews cases of champagne. Well done @namechangedyetagain we needed some good news. Right then one bottle each. No sharing (because covid) and try not to spill it on your marking piles. Grin

schoolsweek.co.uk/five-fold-increase-in-secondary-pupils-isolating-due-to-in-school-covid-contact/?f&fbclid=IwAR1h-SVa6EQMyJ9iaX4HVXHkr41LA0Whfo144ok9sjqhDSVdICp0DGLUnsc

Somewhat disingenuous headline (not all students were back/tested the previous week!), but the data therein is interesting.

TheHoneyBadger · 24/03/2021 19:07

Congratulations Name! You can stop stressing and catastrophising that you'll never get a job because you got the first one you went for!

My interview went brilliantly but I wasn't selected. Apparently they loved all my ideas and will be using many of them and hope I'll help implement them (my ideas, for free) and they really appreciated how committed to the school I am and how passionate I was about the role.

However one of the other candidates (I'm just waiting to find out it was the last remaining perky young thing in the pe department who hasn't been given a tlr yet) had literally planned out complete with calendar and timings the first full year of the programme so they had to give it to her Hmm

I can't, and don't think I even want to, compete with someone willing to do half the job for free before they even have it. Also no idea how someone had the time to do that in the, about 5 days, between the job being advertised and interview. Guessing a PE teacher with no marking or planning and no kids. But I'm not bitter Wink

Got a little tearful earlier purely because I am really committed to the school and I really don't want to leave but I just can't see anyway forward and can't really afford to be earning this little at this stage in my life and career. Bit of a dilemma. The lady in charge came to find me at the end of the day to tell me in person and to explain the reasoning and say all the right things about hopefully other posts will come up etc so I'm not sad I applied and she did handle it well. Just feel a bit like I'm at a dead end.

Sorry for the long me me me. Sorry for all those with more positives - touch wood we have still had just the one.

Definitely opening the gin now.

I feel for all of you, grappling with the testing, the remote and the in-class teaching.

Here in Melbourne, despite the mini-lockdownette, it's been the full term back: ten weeks (no half terms here) and boy are we feeling it this time, both pupils and staff.

Roll on Ist April.

I don't know why I'm saying that as I'm taking long service leave for the whole of next week. No plans, just not being at work.

MsAwesomeDragon · 24/03/2021 19:19

Congratulations name!!!!!🎉🎉🎉🥂🥂🥂🍾🍾 I knew you could do it!!!

Commiserations honey. It's rubbish to know you've done a brilliant interview too be passed over for someone else. I can't imagine anyone planning a full year of a role they haven't got yet. I wonder if they've had help from someone already doing a similar role elsewhere (or if they had advance notice that the post was coming up so they had more time?)

GuyFawkesDay · 24/03/2021 19:20

Thanks @DreamingofBrie

Today there was lunch smooshed into his hair and clothes.

Yr7. It's vile.

GuyFawkesDay · 24/03/2021 19:21

Big hugs @TheHoneyBadger

Saucery · 24/03/2021 19:22

I’m sorry, Honey and Mrs H too from yesterday. It’s always a blow not to get a job you really want.
Congratulations, name!

Side effects from vacc kept me at home the last 2 days. They were just so.....random... oooh, I feel a bit hot, now my teeth are chattering I’m so cold, oh heck think I might be sick, ow ow ow this headache!
Fortunate to have it, they’ve passed now, but I wasn’t going in to suffer them in work.

Interesting article on (I think) BBC online about the common cold virus being effective in keeping Covid out of cells. It doesn’t like to share, apparently and Covid can’t currently compete.

Saucery · 24/03/2021 19:23

That’s awful, Guy ! Your poor DS! I hope the school acts swiftly and decisively in putting a stop to that.

FrippEnos · 24/03/2021 19:26

Thanks staff

Piggywaspushed · 24/03/2021 19:27

Soooooo....

Just heard that our year 12 outbreak may well be due to a house party.

Little bastards.

WhenSheWasBad · 24/03/2021 19:27

That’s such great news name so pleased for you.

Really sorry honey that sucks. I’ll bet they knew about the job in advance / had a load of help with it.

GuyFawkesDay · 24/03/2021 19:32

I'm beginning to think our Yr10 one is socially linked too @Piggywaspushed. Too many in one year group.....

TheHoneyBadger · 24/03/2021 19:32

Thanks all.

Yes, maybe advance notice or maybe lots of inside help someone already doing one of the roles that has significant overlap with this one (this will be confirmed if it turns out to be a pe teacher as the other one is). Who knows.

Just weird, they were writing down all of my ideas and lots of nodding and ooh that's a great idea. Maybe I should ask for creator's fee.

I don't think I've got the stomach for helping someone to implement my ideas when I'm not getting paid for it.

Gin and tonic poured and I've got leftover pizza to reheat and scoff so all will be well.

RigaBalsam · 24/03/2021 19:37

Thanks staff

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 24/03/2021 19:38

Congratulations name!!

Sorry Honey, frustrating when you don't feel like the best person 'won'. Absolutely do not implement anything for free.

Good day here, now praying my kids sleep tonight!

JanFebAnyMonth · 24/03/2021 19:42

Interesting guidance from Ofqual (you lot probably know already?) and piggy the article below it is about the hacking

HarrietDVane · 24/03/2021 19:42

@namechangedyetagain

Gosh teaching interview days are long. Luckily I made it to the afternoon stage🙂My brain is completely frazzled now but

I got a job🎉🎉🎉(subject to references, dbs, oh and passing the course!)

Am ridiculously happy. Thank you all for everything😃

Brilliant news! Congratulations Name! WineWineWine

Thanks for the new thread Staff. Now to catch up with the rest of it...

thecatfromjapan · 24/03/2021 19:44

Blimey, Honey. That is one full-on applicant. What a complete downer to have them in your fellow candidates group. That's surely not normal. ☹️

You know, you will find a better-paid position. And it will be good.

Name, well done. That's you sorted for next year. How lovely.

Guy, that is grim. Things going wrong with the Beloved Children is the worst. Really hope you get it sorted.

I'm exhausted tonight and have planning for tomorrow. I'm almost too tired to think, though. I also realise I'm not sure when Easter break is ...

HarrietDVane · 24/03/2021 19:51

So sorry Honey. Taking your ideas is a low blow. I'm sure there's more to that than meets they eye. Sending Gin and Thanks

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 24/03/2021 19:52

Is the ofqual guidance the one that came today? Not much has changed right... Just parents need to butt out, grades aren't up for negotiation. Evidence should be standard across cohorts (makes sense).

namechangedyetagain · 24/03/2021 19:54

Well I'm not happy that they've pinched Honey's ideas and yet not offered her a job.

I'm just starting out and still completely in awe of you all. 😘

MrsHamlet · 24/03/2021 20:04

@namechangedyetagain we knew you could do it! Many congratulations

phlebasconsidered · 24/03/2021 20:05

You know if you have an applicant like that and they get it, everyone in the department will leave within a year. Because they're such an asshat.

CallmeHendricks · 24/03/2021 20:08

Congratulations, @namechangedyetagain.
I'm at the other end of my career and dh and I have just been assessing our potential income if we were to take early retirement vs hanging on for a couple more years.

Gin or Wine to all. But not piggy's rogue Yr 12 party-throwers/go-ers!! Angry
