You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

Or masks mean teachers are able to help individual students again

Completely agree with this-it feels like the unions are missing a trick here. Surely parents would be heavily behind this??

Piggywaspushed · 02/04/2021 11:58

We aren't : we still need to maintain distance while masked and are recommended to stay in our box.

MrsHamlet · 02/04/2021 11:59

We're not allowed out of our boxes worher

MrsHamlet · 02/04/2021 11:59

*either

Piggywaspushed · 02/04/2021 12:02

Tbh, the work doesn't seem to need to be done on average parents : they overwhelmingly supported masks before and there have been virtually no complaints raised, it seems. I agree unions needs to intervene more.

I hope the government sees sense , otherwise I am seriously going to have to question why I am biddably wearing a mask in the supermarket.

Reading this makes me shake. Bloody vaccinate us at the very least if they are going to change the guidance on masks.
It’s horrible teaching at the moment unvaccinated.

In France, teachers unions have been reported as suing the government this week. Wish our unions would do the same.
It is criminal especially in the last few days when they have reported that all groups are going down in number of cases apart from school children.

SmileEachDay · 02/04/2021 13:03

Surely the obvious conclusion to reach from the schools open/rates still dropping story is that the increased mitigation measures are working and should be continued as other areas begin to open.

Is that not completely obvious?

Piggywaspushed · 02/04/2021 13:14

You'd think...

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 02/04/2021 13:21

You’ve defaulted to logic there. That’s not going to end well.

Glad to see this story today. Interestingly another story about heads of multi academy trusts taking enormous 6 figure salaries from the public purse is also running today.

ChloeDecker · 02/04/2021 13:53

Love you TAs! Don’t have many in my school but nationally, you have all have been invaluable Flowers

TheHoneyBadger · 02/04/2021 14:11

Bless the human spirit that we still find ourselves trying to apply logic to what the dfe might do Wink

My headteacher has a long, well-established history of ignoring emails which raise issues she does not want to address. This is known to all staff, to the extent that some people now request 'read receipts'.

Yesterday afternoon, just before breaking up, I emailed her to explain that I'd seen a post I want to apply for, and to check that she would be happy to provide a reference.

She replied within eight minutes Shock. I think she's hoping to get rid of me!

Piggywaspushed · 02/04/2021 16:38

Ha! That's funny Grin

Question for those in the know on this thread.. are fire pits meant to absolutely stink? Next door seem to ahve invested in one and my house absolutely stinks ... no windows open or anything . I genuinely can't bear it if I am going to have to put up with this all summer. It's bad enough when they light their BBQ by my washing line.

Their own house must stink too, surely?
People seem to me to be so anti social these days.

How many state schools have a cadet unit? Is this the new Gavin Youth?

Piggywaspushed · 02/04/2021 19:11

Eugh.

Piggywaspushed · 02/04/2021 19:11

Have to do something in these extended school days.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 02/04/2021 20:26

Ds was fine this morning not a single cough and full of beans so I assumed the few coughs yesterday were nothing. At 5pm he complains of a sore throat and has a slight temp. Arrgh. All Easter weekend plans now on hold and pcr test booked for first thing. Case rates in our area are very low so it is probably some other bug but what a pita!

JanFebAnyMonth · 02/04/2021 20:43

Oh no Squashed, hope it's neg.

Cadets, of course.

The thing bout reviewing the at Easter to decide on masks was always a ruse, as I and others said when they announced it: low rates (after 25 weeks!) can either be taken to mean the masks are working OR that there's no need for them.

JanFebAnyMonth · 02/04/2021 20:45

The thing About reviewing the DATA at Easter..... after 2.*5 weeks

borntobequiet · 02/04/2021 21:01

On 25th Sept last year, BBC reported that Covid cases were up by 60% in a week. Absolutely no mention of the date schools returned for the Autumn term.
www.bbc.co.uk/news/54296475
Schools have barely been back two weeks now, and with staggered starts in many cases. I honestly think our government is on hallucinogenic drugs.

JanFebAnyMonth · 02/04/2021 21:58

Oh why are people so thick/insensitive? When someone starts a thread asking for help with a dissertation on alcoholism, but gives slightly strange answers and writes in a weird style and doesn’t seem very bothered by the detailed answers she’s getting, you need to hear the question behind the questions, not carry on showing how terribly experienced you are in Sociology! And lo, she finally admits prompted by me and one other, that it’s her problem and she’s feeling bad tonight. I’d reported it before then anyway, hope she gets the help she needs.

It’s not that hard to tell when there’s something else going on on a thread, rather than the superficial question.
Or is it just me?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 02/04/2021 23:19

I think alcohol ones can be a bit difficult on MN. I think it can be difficult for some people to spot it because it's a bit close to home and they don't see a problem if people are functioning.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 02/04/2021 23:30

Oh hang on. Just seen the thread you mean. Scrap that. It's not relevant.

PussyCatEatingEasterEggs · 03/04/2021 07:26

Piggy NDN was using broken up bits of shelf unit (chipboard) in his bloody patio heater last night. Luckily he'd also positioned it in the middle of his patio under his washing line.🤦🏻‍♀️ He'd done a BBQ and was transferring the charcoal cinders into it using tongs.🤯
All windows shut and the wind blowing away from us, so the black smoke wasn't too bad for us...not sure 2 other neighbours with laundry on the line would be impressed though.
