You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

She does seem to suggest Tories should go into teaching to share political views, not to be great teachers...

Piggywaspushed · 15/03/2021 18:32

Ewwww... Gave was in my hometown today!!!

Piggywaspushed · 15/03/2021 18:32

GAV

JanFebAnyMonth · 15/03/2021 18:33

Did you wave a flag or try and snog him piggy Wink

Piggywaspushed · 15/03/2021 18:35

Had I known, I might have had other treats for him.

noblegiraffe · 15/03/2021 18:35

My views on KB are always tempered by the fact that she put her money where her mouth is and her school really does get astonishing results. Whether the ends justify the means I don't know. Maybe.

ChloeDecker · 15/03/2021 18:37

@CallmeHendricks

Anyone want to get cross? Read THIS It's sponsored by the government.
That’s outright propaganda right there Angry

@DrMadelineMaxwell thinking of you and your sister and sister’s partner. So so sorry Flowers

noblegiraffe · 15/03/2021 18:37

I once accidentally ran across Gove. I was similarly unprepared and it remains a source of regret.

Piggywaspushed · 15/03/2021 18:40

Is anyone else aware that their exam board won't be producing 'mini exams'? Just wondering how well known this is. I may spray it across MN and see the reaction!! Grin

Piggywaspushed · 15/03/2021 18:41

Oh noble will never guess which/whose school Gav visited??!!

noblegiraffe · 15/03/2021 18:42

I started a thread btw.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/secondary/4193016-GCSE-maths-pass-standard-has-been-devalued-despite-Gove

Before the sadarse lurkers start wetting their pants in excitement about how they can rock up and post abuse, they should note that it's not in the covid section.

It's about an Education Datalab analysis that appears to show that the standard required to get a pass in GCSE maths has been declining for over a decade. I thought it was interesting anyway.

noblegiraffe · 15/03/2021 18:43

Does its ex-headmaster currently have really bad hair, Piggy by any chance?

Piggywaspushed · 15/03/2021 18:44

Gav says home testing to last 'for months'.

Piggywaspushed · 15/03/2021 18:44

Yes noble! How did you guess!!!!

This school has a 'longer' school day...

Frlrlrubert · 15/03/2021 18:46

Checking in, thanks staff.

DrM, so sorry Thanks that's awful.

We are doing mini exams we're making ourselves, in the classroom, and sort of hoping we might get something from the exam board to add to that with, but no held breath.

We should have heard about our 'personally at risk' redundancy meetings today, but the process is on hold/delayed because of some dodgy stuff. Not that the HT/school has said anything, we only know that from the union. Another union meeting tomorrow to report on another meeting they've had with the HT since. Such a shambles.

noblegiraffe · 15/03/2021 18:47

Home testing has to last for months, they've got millions of tests to get through.

I wonder if the Royal Statistical Society and the MHRA will have any clout with the government on this?

I mean, the school positive rate is lower than the supposed false-positive rate. What on earth is going on with the tests if they aren't registering positive either falsely or negatively?

CallmeHendricks · 15/03/2021 18:55

Could it be that, in addition to the tests being shit, people just aren't administering them correctly?
I hold my hand up here - I've done a few of them now, and I find them SO unpleasant (I have a really strong gag reflex and am close to vomiting each time) that I have caught myself being tempted to say, "fuck it, that'll do," when I've barely put it in my mouth.

noblegiraffe · 15/03/2021 18:56

Isn't it supposed to come up invalid if you haven't done it properly? Isn't that the point of the other line?

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 15/03/2021 18:57

I'm not putting it in my mouth at all.

Behaviour shocking today. Knackered.

CallmeHendricks · 15/03/2021 19:00

@noblegiraffe

Isn't it supposed to come up invalid if you haven't done it properly? Isn't that the point of the other line?
Blush Perhaps I'd better go and read the instructions again. I'd also missed that you don't have to do the mouth. Is it both nostrils instead, as an option? Need to do it again tonight.
Mistressiggi · 15/03/2021 19:03

I am very sorry for your family's troubles, @DrMadelineMaxwell, what an awful thing to have to face. Wishing you strength Flowers

Mistressiggi · 15/03/2021 19:04

Dh is about to do his first LFT - can I ask, have I seen on here that you can't eat or drink before one? Because our instructions don't say that, so I thought I would check.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 15/03/2021 19:08

noble Lehain is mostly odious, still probably shag him over the other two. Gav visited a school in our MAT recently. Twat.

Saw an AQA thing from marhsconf that seemed to suggest the exam boards wouldn't be providing much beyond what we already have. They're organising questions into topics..... (don't we have testbase/exampro for that already?). I'm trying to remember they've been shafted too. I mainly think schools waiting for exam board stuff will struggle, I'd rather have a plan now (appreciate I don't know every subject!).

Decline in standards for G4 is interesting. Will need to read more before commenting.

MsAwesomeDragon · 15/03/2021 19:11

It only comes up invalid if you haven't processed it correctly. So having an air bubble on the device or something. If you don't do the swabbing correctly it comes up negative, because it hasn't picked up any virus. (Someone at school tried it with a swab that had just come out of the packet -negative)

HarrietDVane · 15/03/2021 19:20

What a day! Children were half asleep and wilting at the first sign of hard work, I was completely alone all day with no breaks - not even to dash to the loo - and hateful gaslighty head has decreed a raft of assessments and new data requirements to be submitted by next week. Also my laptop kept crashing and the printer broke down.

I don't want to go back.
