You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

Have just lost 2 messages. FFS.

I need to work on getting the children to be quiet and listen as they seem to have forgotten how to do that. They're all a bit emosh at the minute as well. Mentor thinks that I'm in a blip and I'll soon get it back once I'm teaching more (not really taught for last 2 weeks). I hope so as I really need to get through this placement. But I'm pooped despite taking every vitamin known to man. actually in bed already. Being tired does not help my mood!

winewolfhowls · 15/03/2021 20:55

DrM, im so so sorry, life is just utterly shit sometimes. I hope you got through the day.

winewolfhowls · 15/03/2021 20:57

Kids behaviour deteriorating here too, especially out of lessons and in yards. Mad as a bag of frogs, y8, i wouldn't be hoy for all the tea in China.

noblegiraffe · 15/03/2021 20:58

Anyone in contact with @enemyofeducationno1 ?

She's not been around since she was talking about not being able to get a GP appointment to get signed off. Hope she is coping ok and taking a break from school stuff.

winewolfhowls · 15/03/2021 20:59

Name change, you are doing great, really, to be managing to teach at all. Im knackered and I've been around for yonks. Be kind to yourself.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 15/03/2021 21:00

@DrMadelineMaxwell sorry to hear your news. Do stay off work if you need to. I did a stint of ICU with a relative a few years ago and tried to carry on going in to school. Looking back now I can see that I would have been better taking more time out.

Thought that children would have been in better shape today after the weekend to relax. They were not.

However, all bubbles still intact. Onward and upward!

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 15/03/2021 21:02

@namechangedyetagain I'm mentoring a trainee this year and it has been harder than ever. My trainee has lots of great qualities and self confidence and even they are struggling. Please do not think badly of yourself. Dust yourself down and go show them how good you are.

chocolateisavegetable · 15/03/2021 21:02

oooooooo Line of Duty - jolly well love that programme

noblegiraffe · 15/03/2021 21:21

Dr Amir Khan seems like a nice guy so I feel a bit guilty at throwing Jan's Royal Statistical Society complaint about LFDs at him.

CallmeHendricks · 15/03/2021 21:22

OK, so in the interests of balance, HERE'S the alternative viewpoint to the previous article I linked.
Disclaimer: no idea how reliable this publication is (Byline Times). But it has got to be more reliable than the load of old tosh the Government put out.

CallmeHendricks · 15/03/2021 21:23

Noble, I read that thread earlier and thought how similar it sounded to the Government thingy I posted earlier.

noblegiraffe · 15/03/2021 21:32

Yes, Hen, it is a bit propaganda-ey isn't it? I don't think I'm going to win the £200 voucher for some reason.

Noble, you're such an old softy....Grin

JanFebAnyMonth · 15/03/2021 21:39

Callme we've investigated Byline Times before, they seem legit. It's run by two experienced investigative journalists iirc. Their website invites proposals for/ articles.

HarrietDVane · 15/03/2021 21:41

Noble - That is what I would call a bloody good question. I hope he answers it.

WhenSheWasBad · 15/03/2021 21:43

DrM I’m so sorry. Hope you took the whole day to yourself, not just the morning.

name it’s a nightmare trying to train to teach in Covid times. My year 7s were beyond awful, zero attention span. We hardly covered any of the work we were mean to.

At least we have Line of Duty to look forward to. Will we need a separate thread so LoD fans can avoid spoilers?

HarrietDVane · 15/03/2021 21:46

I've never seen Line of Duty. What am I missing?

CallmeHendricks · 15/03/2021 21:47

What happened to the splinter group set up for those of us who were starting diets? In asking this question, I think it will be obvious how mine went...

StaffRepFeistyClub · 15/03/2021 21:49

@HarrietDVane - you have five seasons to catch up with before Sunday 😂

That is a superb question; I really hope it’s answered.

Same here. But have taken a liking Tarquin’s gin - just got their imperial Earl grey and it is lovely

harriet I'm fully intending to binge the 5 seasons again before Sunday. I'm not sure how ...

CallmeHendricks · 15/03/2021 21:55

But gin is half the calories of white wine! So, you could almost regard it as aiding weight loss.
Sort of.

HarrietDVane · 15/03/2021 21:59

@CallmeHendricks I can identify re: diets. The splinter thread is here:

School staff health and well-being thread1 www.mumsnet.com/Talk/the_staffroom/4122144-school-staff-health-and-well-being-thread1

I will be revisiting it when the house is free of birthday cake. There's no point pretending I can ignore cake.
