You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

Hmm.Right.

The most FAQ I have had since returning is 'can we stop wearing masks after Easter?'

MrsHamlet · 22/03/2021 17:14

I have magic tape. It's coming up and I tripped over it today.

Waves to 9pmcouchnaps

I’m an NQT too. I’m also very tired.

So pleased you’ve been invited to interview Honey

GuyFawkesDay · 22/03/2021 17:34

Friday tired on a Monday.

chocolateisavegetable · 22/03/2021 17:37

@CallmeHendricks

I'm pissed off about the absence of replies in the Dr Amir Khan questions thread. Despite being asked about it, HQ haven't explained why, either.
@CallmeHendricks I have it on good authority that he'll be answering questions this evening. Can't help it if MNHQ prefer me to you ... Grin
Piggywaspushed · 22/03/2021 17:53

God , a lot of the men on Edutwitter have been behaving appallingly. Not content with Michael Rosen, they have now gone for Barbara Bleiman because she has a differing view on coursework.. and Alison Kriel for calling out racism and threatening language. Andrew Old Twitter. if you want to look Stuart Lock , too, who is becoming increasingly dogmatic. And all Old's 'cheerleaders' to coin a phrase!

It is so laddish and awful and nasty. And they all stick up for each other. They clearly need to do some actual teaching and pandemic wrangling. And Adam Boxer is being weird.

And then we ponder why women don't make it in educational leadership.

These people are leaders. It reminds me of when I had to deal with year 10s and MSM.

Piggywaspushed · 22/03/2021 17:53

Oh Ami DFOD.

StationView · 22/03/2021 18:20

I was shocked to discover that one of my daft Y11 lads from last year is training to be a vaccinator Shock. He was so immature that he thought making fart noises was funny, and I wouldn't have trusted him to cope with a worksheet, a Pritt stick and his exercise book. I suppose it might be the making of him Hmm

MrsHerculePoirot · 22/03/2021 18:23

Well masks are optional in classrooms in my school... 🙄

borntobequiet · 22/03/2021 18:37

A lot of emphasis this evening on Europe’s “third wave” and dire warnings about it coming here, cleverly camouflaging the fact that we’re incubating our own in schools. Watch out for more misdirection, obfuscation and denial that there is any problem, and if there were, it would be the fault of teachers.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 22/03/2021 18:38

Oh twitter was like a nursery classroom over the weekend.

Old and his crew I don't actually disagree with re exclusions (on the whole). But the way they go about it is vile, aggressive and immature. The No More Exclusion people don't seem to argue for more funding and better AP. I think we'd all get behind that. Sadly their lines about the students behaviour being a reflection on the teacher isn't entirely correct. They've said some vile things too. They'd all be sent to isolation if they behaved like that in school!

9pmcouchnaps · 22/03/2021 18:39

@ChloeDecker

A huge welcome 9pmcouchnaps! Hope the NQT year is going as well as it can during a pandemic!
Thank you! The most ridiculous year to be a new teacher! 🤣
CallmeHendricks · 22/03/2021 18:52

@noblegiraffe, Dr Khan hasn't answered your question yet...
Wink

Piggywaspushed · 22/03/2021 18:56

He has now finished his propaganda posts. He sounds like Jenny flaming Harries.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 22/03/2021 19:17

I had a meeting with my head today about 'catch up' plans and so on for my phase. It's been a complicated year (no shit Sherlock), but I'd also only been in the school since September when we closed last year, and she went off on secondment elsewhere - so, first proper chat in a long time. Apparently I'm a 'great leader' and definitely shouldn't consider taking any more steps back out of management, and am I sure I'm not interested in headship.

Which is nice to hear, but I know that I'm not interested in headship.

9pmcouchnaps · 22/03/2021 19:18

Soooo tired! Though the consensus in the staffroom at school is that is definitely not just an NQT thing, we are all on our knees this week...
chocolateisavegetable · 22/03/2021 19:25

What lovely feedback Rule ! It must be nice to know you're considered as HT material, even though you don't want to do it Smile

9pmcouchnaps · 22/03/2021 19:39

@GuyFawkesDay

Friday tired on a Monday.
Yes! The weekend was not long enough to absorb my exhaustion. My 9pm couch naps were actually more like 8pm on Friday and Saturday, AND I fell asleep during Line of Duty last night!
Medra · 22/03/2021 19:42

I’m MFL! Now I’m going to catch up on the rest of the thread.

Medra · 22/03/2021 19:46

Also @9pmcouchnaps if you’re in Yorkshire let me know. We have a vacancy.

lonelyplanet · 22/03/2021 19:48

Can it be an all through school? I'm great with year 6, especially Maths and DT. I can dabble in computing and most other things except mfl. I'd love to join you.

Sorry Piggy about your outbreak, I hope you're OK.

JanFebAnyMonth · 22/03/2021 20:07

It's obviously an all through school! (What do we think about those btw?)

We have an MFL vacancy currently too! East Mids.

HarrietDVane · 22/03/2021 20:08

Can I join your school too? I'm rather partial to LKS2, happy to teach everything except PE, but very fond of English, History, and MFL. I have lots of EAL experience to bring to the party!

JanFebAnyMonth · 22/03/2021 20:19

When is yr interview Honey? Know it must be soon.

JanFebAnyMonth · 22/03/2021 20:19

Do we need some male teachers maybe?
