You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

I know noble
I think I could do a good job of it but it's scary and they won't have many Bobs. I'm good with Bobs. Hermiones not so much!!

StanfordPines · 21/03/2021 17:28

Yet another friend who is younger than me and working from home has had their vaccine. I don’t begrudge them but it is rather frustrating.

You can do it mrsH. Do it for me! Think of it as vicarious revenge.

Piggywaspushed · 21/03/2021 17:48

Wider MN seems very keen today to change rules on SI. this is the next battle, I guess, once they realise bubbles are still closing and students still face SI.

Honestly, how hard was it? If they had vaccinated all school staff, then school staff would feel less concerned about changes to SI.

Prediction: it will soon be announced that the trials of 7 day LFTs in the 200 pilot schools was roaring success, a headteacher will be wheeled out from a suspiciously shiny MAT/ irrelevant sixth from college with 1m between each and every student and tell us it was 'easy' and 'worth it'.

Speaking of which, that GP on that Q and A has just run for the hills.

A different school, MrsH, or different role in the same school?

If it involves Hermiones, I have worked in a selective girls' school and could share some experiences?

Good luck with the application!

I am cobbling together a Desmos activity on angles for my Year 7s tomorrow... feeling quite proud of myself even if most of the screens are copied from other people!

MrsHerculePoirot · 21/03/2021 17:55

MrsH you’ll be fab and I bet you DO have all the skills. Go For It!

MrsHamlet · 21/03/2021 18:07

It's a grammar school, but mixed. I went to one but have only worked in comps.
I got shortlisted last time but it was a very different job and I withdrew when things changed here.
I keep looking at the letter and thinking it's not good enough

DreamingofBrie · 21/03/2021 18:25

Good luck, MrsH. What do you think is still missing from your application?

MrsHamlet · 21/03/2021 18:29

I don't know brie. It's an unspecified AHT post and it feels simultaneously too generic and too "me me me"

Do you know what he does? Works for an arms manufacturers. Yes, designing bombs and the like. I have to forget that to be friends with him.

In my experience they often want to sound more like that than they actually are! Remember that the teachers there are exactly the same as you Grin

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 21/03/2021 18:53

is this another feature of perimenopause?

My first 'thing' was this. Completely uninterested in sex. I take testosterone now, so libido not completely on the floor, but it's only just there on days when the wind is blowing in the right direction.

CallmeHendricks · 21/03/2021 18:55

MrsH, do bear in mind that if you don't go for this job, they will inevitably employ some whippersnapper of a young bloke instead, who couldn't hold a candle to you and who definitely won't be agonising over his application letter this evening.

MrsHamlet · 21/03/2021 18:56

Like my knob colleague whose promotion is why I need to leave?!
You're all right, of course.

TheHoneyBadger · 21/03/2021 19:00

Big girls pants time. Get it sent

MrsHamlet · 21/03/2021 19:25

It's done

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 21/03/2021 19:28

For 'reasons' (dying relatives), it could be possible for me and partner to both take a year off work to do some professional training/to change career. This is unexpected, until now any plans like this were pipe dreams. He probably knows what he wants to do, and his is less urgent than mine - it would just be furthering training in his current role. Mine would be about a career change.

I have absolutely no idea what I could do. I thought of ed psych (as mentioned a few weeks ago), but that's a LOT of training, and you only see slightly broken children. So... what?

DreamingofBrie · 21/03/2021 20:12

@MrsHamlet

It's done
Yay!

Echo the sentiments about some young, not v experienced, male teacher getting it if you don't apply.

I'm terrible at interviews, no good at selling myself either. I went for an internal role and lost out to a (very nice, very competent) young, male colleague. It did sting a bit as for this role, I actually did have bags more experience. Glad not to have the extra workload though and I can continue to help the students in this particular area, but without the accountablility.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 21/03/2021 20:15

@noblegiraffe

Any of our Welsh or Scottish posters have any idea why cases are rising there? Primaries opened early, but secondaries still aren’t properly?
Only foundation went back 4 weeks ago. Our reception bubble popped un the first week back. This week ks2, y11 and above have gone back so it is a bit early for that to be the cause.

More likely to be people who are just fed up of the restrictions starting to push back at the boundaries?

CarrieBlue · 21/03/2021 20:17

Please can someone give our electricity supply a hard teacher stare? The whole lot has just cut out (not the trip switches, the meter has cut out too). I promise I’ve paid the bill!

MrsHerculePoirot · 21/03/2021 20:33

Well done @MrsHamlet

@RuleWithAWoodenFoot do you still want to work with children? Are those the sort of areas you’re thinking of or really don’t know?

namechangedyetagain · 21/03/2021 20:38

Yay Mrs H you sound amazing so I don't know why you doubt yourself so.

Have literally spent all weekend on my folder, essay, stressing about interview and trying to think of lessons for this week. How you keep up this pace I have no idea. I'm zombified on the sofa now, keep stressing about this week. How can i possibly compete against so many (also cheap) NQTs. I have nothing to offer, and can't even talk about myself or why I want to teach or my favourite lesson or anything. Aarrggghhhh!

13luckyblackcats · 21/03/2021 20:48

@namechangedyetagain you absolutely can do it! Focus on relationships as that seems to be your main interest and strength. It's also massively relevant at the moment due to Covid, and actually pretty trendy. Mention a bit about an area of learning theory that interests you and you are having a really interesting conversation.

I have had one mock interview and an interview so far, not going to hear about that one until the end of the week, so I can't say I aced it! But the actual interview was better than the mock, because I had already practised. Does your SD provider do mock interviews? I really wasn't looking forward to mine but it was great. Still don't know where my third placement will be...
