You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

@Piggywaspushed

No one on the Republic will be surprised to hear that my dishwasher is not working.
Last time that happened dc took it in turns to do the washing up... then complained that the dishes were dirty!
JanFebAnyMonth · 20/03/2021 18:57

Piggy, can you not just use a teacher look on your household appliances? They are being a bit Bob for you, aren't they?

Piggywaspushed · 20/03/2021 18:58

Teacher look is a good idea. I will leave it unplugged for a while and then attempt discipline.

CallmeHendricks · 20/03/2021 19:05

Darling dog, who we all adore more than anything, has a tumour. Waiting to hear in a week or so whether it's cancerous but likely to be, judging by how kind and solicitous the (usually hearty) vet was being.

Final straw.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 20/03/2021 19:06

Great news jan.

I've done no work, horrendous hangover but the most dunk I have been in years last night. Wobble at work Friday and needed to let off steam. One good thing about lockdown drinking is you can't be a dick in public and have to cope with the beer fear after!!

We've been to the library, made nice food and had a walk. Friend with a toddler the same age came over for a garden play. Apparently she's been told by the midwife she needs to shield from 28 weeks, I thought this advice had gone? She's WFH and not a teacher so not a big deal from that pov. But we have teachers at 28+ weeks teaching in school as 'normal'.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 20/03/2021 19:11

Do you think doing an art day with clay on Thursday would make the week feel longer or shorter? Or just worse?

MrsHamlet · 20/03/2021 19:16

Can I do Edward II and Paradise Lost in clay? I used to do it with gingerbread but eating in class is banned. As is anything nice.

DreamingofBrie · 20/03/2021 19:17

So sorry to hear about ddog Hendricks Sad, fingers crossed for him x

ChloeDecker · 20/03/2021 19:24

Keeping everything crossed that my school magically gets a call from a local vaccination centre. We are such a large school it would definitely put a lot of staff’s mind at ease.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 20/03/2021 19:26

I spent lockdown teaching them how to draw proportional human figures. We're now on drawing them moving. The next step is wire figures as a frame for clay. If its about dance moves, then I have no idea how to make them stand up. Just in a lump of clay I guess.

Piggywaspushed · 20/03/2021 19:36

Oh hendricks , hope DDog pulls through Sad

Off topic question: Parents of older children, does this constant sheer exhaustion ever go away?

I teach full time in a OFE primary, have a two year old and am pregnant so I can’t work out which of those is putting me in bed at 8pm on a Saturday, but I’m leaning towards the toddler...

CallmeHendricks · 20/03/2021 20:19

Thank you. He's such a poppet and such an integral member of our family. Everyone loves him; family, friends, neighbours, random dog-walking acquaintances, everyone down at the vet's...
I have to think positively.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 20/03/2021 20:40

time having a 2 year old and being pregnant was exhausting!! I now have a 1yo and 4yo and average one wake up per night and it is so much easier. Newborn and toddler is relentless I won't lie, but it does get better.

I think it does. I've got one in KS2 and 2 in KS3 and I have lie ins! They do go to bed later though, so I've lost my evenings.
HSHorror · 20/03/2021 20:49

Hope hes ok callme

And you get no worse Hop

Re older kids. Definitely easier for mine. Reception was bad too for dc1.

MsAwesomeDragon · 20/03/2021 21:14

@RuleWithAWoodenFoot

Exciting times! My head has managed to get all our staff on a vaccine list for tomorrow.
That's brilliant!!! Congratulations!!!
RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 20/03/2021 21:16

I'm done already, but I'm v happy for the others. I tried to get us on a list for leftovers 2 weeks ago, but no contact. This has bern something different - not sure how she did it.

MsAwesomeDragon · 20/03/2021 21:23

I really hope your ddog is ok callme. 🤞

Time yes it gets easier. I had a 10 year gap between my 2, for various reasons, but the exhaustion was a shock both times (and I was quite young when dd1 was born). Dd2 is now 11, and she sleeps in, I definitely get a full night's sleep, and she doesn't need me to entertain her at all times any more. I almost feel like I'm getting some freedom back. Sorry that's a long way off for you, but it is hope for the future.

HarrietDVane · 20/03/2021 21:25

I think it does get easier. Mine are both teenagers and there is at least the option of a lie in now. There are different stresses but there is more freedom. I can leave them at home while I go to the shop. When we leave the house as a family I no longer need to pack a suitcase for all their stuff. For that reason alone it's easier!

WhenSheWasBad · 20/03/2021 21:50

Oh call I’m sorry about your dog. Hope the vet has unexpected good news.

I think the looking after of a newborn and toddler is a special kind of hell. Back then going to the supermarket (on your own) was a treat.

Now they are older, the supermarket is a dull job that’s needs doing again.

JanFebAnyMonth · 20/03/2021 22:04

Oh don't remind me of the supermarket trips ☠️

Beachhuts90 · 20/03/2021 22:05

So sorry to hear about your dog!! Hoping for good news for you.

I've spent all day either asleep or feeling dazed. I've picked up a cold from the kids. No traditional covid symptoms luckily.

CallmeHendricks · 20/03/2021 22:14

Thanks guys. Sad

Timeturnerplease · 21/03/2021 05:41

Thanks all. I was beginning to think I’d be this tired for the rest of my life!

2yo has just woken up but is luckily staying in her bed until the sun comes up on her clock. I will be sending her father downstairs with her while I stay in bed and read!
