You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

🤦‍♀️
And I haven’t even had half the week you lot have had. Blush

TheHoneyBadger · 20/03/2021 13:41

Much scatter brain-ness around. A colleague and I were talking about a shared group and what they needed to do next and confidently agreed they'd go on to x. Separately we both later realised x was a topic for a totally different year group Confused

Lots of frazzled brains around.

Apparently we sent 35 year 9s home to isolate. So glad ds wasn't a close contact.

DreamingofBrie · 20/03/2021 13:51

Hope you're ok Hoppscotch and that you have mild/no symptoms Brew.

I've dodged a bullet this year as I've no exam classes. Really feel for my colleagues and agree it's outrageous that the exam boards are still taking the fees.

Anyone read Michael Rosen's piece in the Guardian today? I do enjoy reading his articles.

Lots of frazzled brains around.

YES! Totally a bear of little brain at the moment. Saying some really dense things. Too many different things to think about. I have a meeting with my Head on Monday morning which should put all my things in boxes and lists, so after that hopefully I can pull my shit together.

MsAwesomeDragon · 20/03/2021 15:49

I've said and done a lot of stupid things this week as well. The highlights being when I forgot the names of the kids in front of me, and when I told a kid to put his calculator away when I really meant phone (he was supposed to be using his calculator, but had his phone out instead)

HobnobbingAboutHobnobs · 20/03/2021 16:23

Brain frazzle is apparently going around - I had 3 sweet blonde year 7 girls that I have very consistently called the wrong names all week. They are being very patient with me, but at some point they'll get fed up!

lonelyplanet · 20/03/2021 16:31

I hope you are okay Hopscotch.

Hoppscotch · 20/03/2021 17:24

Thanks for the well wishes. None of the main three symptoms, as yet, but some of the others. I'd have put it down to the general brain frazzle with which you're all unfortunately familiar!

Definitely wouldn't have tested at this point without the lft, so feeling a bit guilty for thinking they'd be completely useless!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 20/03/2021 17:39

General mood on edutwitter is a special kind of tired. I wish we didn't have 8 days left.

StaffRepFeistyClub · 20/03/2021 17:54

We break up for Easter on Wednesday by which time our Year 11 need to have completed an in class assessment. So they need to complete two more topic assessments and a formal in-hall assessment all by May half term. I will be a marking machine!

We don't finish til Maundy Thursday ...

GuyFawkesDay · 20/03/2021 18:06

Kids finish on the weds but we have inset Maundy Thursday. In the meantime just a full set of Yr11 and 13 mocks to mark, tests for KS3 and everything else.

Absolutely beyond tired today.

lonelyplanet · 20/03/2021 18:13

@MrsHamlet

We don't finish til Maundy Thursday ...
At least your summer term should be a week shorter. Summer 1 is usually short but ours is a full 7 weeks.
HarrietDVane · 20/03/2021 18:17

We don't finish until Maundy Thursday either Confused

I have been doing school work pretty much all day. I am frazzled! And my house is a tip.

MrsHamlet · 20/03/2021 18:19

So true, lonelyplanet
I'm meant to be going to Budapest on Good Friday. Sigh.

DreamingofBrie · 20/03/2021 18:25

General mood on edutwitter is a special kind of tired.

I've been asleep all weekend, it feels! Literally just got up this morning to do the ironing and make lunch, and just surfaced now for dinner.

Quite a hectic week - had two observations but am now ready to cross the pay threshold Smile. Just need to put the application form together and submit this week.

TheHoneyBadger · 20/03/2021 18:27

I've glanced at some lessons and written in my diary when I'm going to mark each set of assessments starting with a set tomorrow, then one Monday, one Tuesday and two more sets over the weekend/holiday.

I only have 2 teaching days left but have been landed with an extra parents evening because too many parents couldn't get appointments last time so I have to do a class that I don't lead on. I've just checked and only 13 slots are booked so far - fingers crossed it stays that way.

Recently Saturdays are a complete write off in this house. We sleep, I chill in bed on mumsnet or watching stuff and literally do mostly bugger all. I woke up early this morning and went to the bathroom then in a most unlike me way managed to go back to sleep till nearly 10.

Sunday I feel alive again and get stuff done. Tomorrow it will be mostly marking and laundry. Maybe I'll manage to get the house tidy and clean over the Easter holidays? I had hoped half term but I was wiped out and didn't make much progress.

Piggywaspushed · 20/03/2021 18:33

No one on the Republic will be surprised to hear that my dishwasher is not working.

MrsHamlet · 20/03/2021 18:36

Nooooooo Piggy

Piggywaspushed · 20/03/2021 18:43

Last time this happened it decided to start working after about 3 days so fingers crossed...

Looks like Easter will be dishwashers, toilet flushes, opticians, dentists, haircuts, loo seat replaced ...

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 20/03/2021 18:48

Exciting times!
My head has managed to get all our staff on a vaccine list for tomorrow.

Argh, I meant Rule! It's been a long week...

JanFebAnyMonth · 20/03/2021 18:56

All our staff were offered vaccine slots today at a local medical centre.
