You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

But that's one of the best things about being in primary: you get to teach everything! Sure, there are some aspects of certain subjects that I'm not overly keen on but on any given day I could be exploring almost anything with the kids. Once you've got them trained, Year Six are capable of being so independent and of having quite deep philosophical discussions around quite complex issues. There's always a Bob or two and, yes, having that Bob all day every day can sometimes take it toll but I wouldn't swap it.

noblegiraffe · 19/03/2021 07:42

MrsH but that would be a reason to want to teach primary. Glorious maths.

TheHoneyBadger · 19/03/2021 07:44

Morning all. Really don't want to go to work today and have a hectic day. Just reminding myself it's Friday.

Have washed my hair and going to make a bit more effort with appearance for once to try and convince myself I'm a capable professional not an exhausted shell of a teacher.

Deadline for applications is this morning so I'm wondering if I'll hear anything.

Going to do an lft now before my morning coffee

JanFebAnyMonth · 19/03/2021 07:49

Ah the pre-coffee LFT... the joys!

Happy anniversary of first school closure everyone!

Saucery · 19/03/2021 07:49

Morning! I've been lurking occasionally but new puppy and not wanting to read a load of terrifying shite about AZ vacc (having it next week) has kept me away from MN.
Best wishes to all xx

JanFebAnyMonth · 19/03/2021 07:49

Not sure happy is the right adjective

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 19/03/2021 07:58

I don’t know if you are allowed to say the words new puppy without posting a picture, Saucery.

MsAwesomeDragon · 19/03/2021 08:00

@RafaIsTheKingOfClay

I don’t know if you are allowed to say the words new puppy without posting a picture, Saucery.
I think that's definitely against the rules. Puppy pics please!!!
Saucery · 19/03/2021 08:19

I can't, too Outy! But think squishy, naughty, inquisitive, cuddly Andrex puppy type. I am exhausted but covid and work bollocks has shifted way, way back in my mind so can highly recommend getting one Grin

noblegiraffe · 19/03/2021 08:41

Happy anniversary of first school closure everyone!

Omg. That was a dreadful week. And toilet roll shortages.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 19/03/2021 08:51

Oh god. That was the week the whole NHS staff lost the plot and collectively went ‘oh fuck’. And some kind MNer told the ward cleaner who started a thread cos she was scared to man up because it’s what she’d signed up for.

CarrieBlue · 19/03/2021 09:19

My fb memories just reminded me what an insane day that was at school - I think I’m tired now but last year I was dead on my feet.

MrsHerculePoirot · 19/03/2021 09:49

@Saucery oooooh how exciting. Ours is arriving 3 weeks today! I need to shop!!!

HerdyGerdy · 19/03/2021 09:52

Piggy that's being discussed on Data at present, quite sensibly. Increasing risk of infection by 22% for parents of secondary children is not marginal!

Elsewhere, ie on Parents Utd group Fb, reports that a local authority - but perhaps nationally - the isolation payment rules have expanded to included single parents on benefit having to isolate because their child has to. (Not before time)

Piggywaspushed · 19/03/2021 13:08

Yes, I thought maybe *noble and other mathematicians might want to pull it apart, too.

they consider that the data might be confounded by them being nursery workers, I note as they come into contact with other people's children...

Looks bad for men . DH was not just being paranoid by distancing his won child from him!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 19/03/2021 14:06

The school that lost the kw bubble for a year group the day before schools returned has lost the other half of that year the day before the kw kids return. Can anyone say Hokey Cokey school reopening?

noblegiraffe · 19/03/2021 15:30

Some good news here: infection rates in school kids holding steady after the first two weeks of school return (I know secondary has been staggered).

TheHoneyBadger · 19/03/2021 15:58

We had our first positive today. Only about 15 sent home. Hoping it's a one off rather than the beginning of the Hokey Cokey

I'm shattered and very very glad it's Friday

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 19/03/2021 16:01

That is good news.

Another ‘win’ for Gav and the DfE here

Not looking quite so good in Scotland or Wales though...

A local primary school has completely shut due to Covid - don't know any other details.

I had a sh1t day today - nothing to do with Covid - just being put in a ridiculous situation with sod all support. I really don't get paid enough for this.

ChloeDecker · 19/03/2021 16:28

Happy Friyay!!!

We’ve had such a mixed week haven’t we?

I’ve marked two sets of A Level papers (Nov 2020 ones) sat during mocks in the school gym and wow such a great set of results. Big dilemma is that they are so good that I am a) gutted that so many people will judge these achievements so negatively which is so unfair and b) that will probably not be accepted by exam boards or SLT.

Don’t know what more the students could have done and I didn’t even have to show them the whole papers beforehand screw you Ofqual and DforE

Might have to fight their corner on this one!
