You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

Shouldn't that be a teams meeting? You can't have all staff in a hall listening to a briefing!

MsAwesomeDragon · 24/02/2021 13:23

Our plan, and the reasons behind it are going to be shared in full detail by email, and a video by one of SLT will also be sent to staff and parents explaining what is happening. That seems pretty reasonable to me. I would not be going in to school to hear the plan. Why can't your school video or email it out?

SmileEachDay · 24/02/2021 13:30

I feel really lucky with my Head. She’s got a draft plan, went through it this morning on Teams, meeting with middle leaders later then departments meeting tomorrow to nail down the details.

noblegiraffe · 24/02/2021 13:33

Stuff in my school is decided a a MAT level which means it's aaages before we hear anything.

I thought I should buy some more masks now that it's not just in corridors and I saw this on Amazon.

Why is she wearing a mask on a zoom call?!

🤣🤣🤣🤣

Worried about wire borne particles?

CarrieBlue · 24/02/2021 13:39

@SmileEachDay

You sound annoyed about testing Carrie - which aspect of it is frustrating you?
Lots of reasons but mostly that I’m done with it all. We’ve been in this position for 12 months, no testing needed (let alone any other mitigation) and now it’s vital? I don’t need a false sense of security that there are no cases in my class, and I’m not engaging with it. I’m just at the end of my tether and shoving things up my nose or down my throat so the mantra of ‘schools are safe’ can be trumpeted continuously - nah, not for me. I’m channeling my inner Bob.
ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown · 24/02/2021 13:55

I'd assume the mask wearing zoomer was in an office with someone else sat 2m away! Or, more likely, no one thought the photo through properly...

Cantaloupeisland · 24/02/2021 14:19

Latest DfE email says schools can get the testing done before the 8th, presumably this will now be the expectation! What's the bloody rush?!

noblegiraffe · 24/02/2021 14:26

Urgh. Cue "my school is useless, they're refusing to even start testing till 8th.

Another fucking shambles. The guidance saying from 8th was released Monday.

Does that mean you want your school to test earlier? I still don't know what my school are doing...
SmileEachDay · 24/02/2021 14:34

So - all the schools who have plans in place will now be under pressure to change them. At the last minute. Again.

noblegiraffe · 24/02/2021 14:44

Does that mean you want your school to test earlier?

It’s going to be a massive pain in the arse for possibly very little actual benefit whenever it’s done. Doesn’t bother me because it’s not me organising it.

But not happy about the govt saying one thing thing then saying something different two days later again.

Cantaloupeisland · 24/02/2021 14:49

Quite- it's the point that they said from the 8th now they're saying do it before. See Gav is doing the prezzer at 5pm

Yup, so many questions but above my Pat grade to worry about it.
  • How can we staff testing if still teaching live to timetable?
  • Where do the kids wait before and after testing?
  • Will school coaches run?
motherrunner · 24/02/2021 14:58

BBC news - there are other professions who are more at risk than teachers than Covid
and we are no more at risk than the general public.

Makes me feel so much better 🙄

“ There isn't a strong scientific argument to vaccinate teachers against Covid unless they are aged 50 or over, or have underlying health conditions, MPs have been told.

Teachers are no more at risk of being infected than any other member of the population, says Professor Anthony Harnden, deputy chairman of the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI).

Prof Harnden tells the science and technology committee: "In fact there are other occupational groups which are usually more at risk than teachers.

"So then it becomes a political decision, which is why the JCVI have decided that we'll be steering our advice based on science and it will be up to politicians to decide on what you do in terms of teachers."

WhenSheWasBad · 24/02/2021 15:04

Us getting infected puts schools at risk of Covid related closures though.

They didn’t vaccinate health care staff because they care about them. They vaccinated health care staff because they couldn’t risk them being odd work for 2 weeks or longer because they were sick.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 24/02/2021 15:11

Exactly - they didn't want medical staff dying or being in some other way unable to do their jobs. Which is exactly what they need from us, at a really basic level. In the nicest possible way there are lots of people currently unemployed who could work on tills/stack shelves in Tesco if everyone in Tesco keeled over/was off with long covid, not so much teachers or other school staff.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 24/02/2021 15:11

Anyway - all our plans are done and sorted for return - right down to phase level and class timetables. This is because we've all turned into crazy preppers.

noblegiraffe · 24/02/2021 15:11

Eh? That sounds like a pile of wank. No more risk of infection than someone who wfh and gets their shopping delivered? Is he sure?

HobnobbingAboutHobnobs · 24/02/2021 15:22

Not caught up, no opinions on anything. Just drawing a line in the sand to mark place. I feel like shit mentally and physically, I taught appallingly today and in 40mins toddler will be home and I have to be bright and bubbly mummy. I thought my day was turning when I received a sweet message from a pupil... but as it's now disappeared I'm half wondering whether I've turned delusional! I will be hiding behind the photocopier with lots of chocolate and my Chris Hemsworth calendar if anyone wants me.

Beachhuts90 · 24/02/2021 15:26

I wore a mask on a teams call recently, but I was in school and sitting next to our senco doing the yearly check in on my 1:1's EHCP. I will NOT be the person responsible for taking down SLT at my school 😂

MrsHamlet · 24/02/2021 15:31

We're going back on the 4th to prepare our classrooms. Whilst simultaneously teaching live online 🤷‍♀️
Two year groups in each day. No public transport.

motherrunner · 24/02/2021 15:33

I just hope I can manage one more remote Yr 7 Performing Arts lesson at home before going back. The noise they make in the drama studio is unbearable.

I'm constantly mystified at people driving alone in their cars with their masks on Grin

Someone suggesting the idea that particles move around the room was ridiculous has made my day! You might as well just have the username 'thickAsFuck' if you're coming out with gems like that.

I'm done for the day. Have done the remote lessons, made sure ds did his, marked nearly half of my year 9 essays and have prepped for 2/3 of my parents evening appointments. Will do the rest tomorrow. Really happy to see I've got some wonderful way over target essays from some of my year 9s and cannot understand why partner teacher is getting such low grades for them. I want them for year 10 and onwards and she's helping build my case at this rate.

Opening wine and saying fuck it now. Another day down.

BabyYoda9 · 24/02/2021 16:00

I did this the other day - I'd gone into school to pick up a set of books in preparation for parents eve and had to get my own DC from school, so I just kept it on for the drive down the road 😂
