You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

I was paying about 15 quid a day for a sports provider summer thing that was running in my sons school from 9-3, about 4 young sports leaders, all around early 20s. Generally had about 30 - 40 kids in.

motherrunner · 24/02/2021 07:18

@ChloeDecker

Just reading that motherrunner

This in particular:
secondary schools will have £22,000 to support children further

In my school, that’s about £12 per child.

Fucking outrageous.

Yup, ‘thanks for the tuppence gov’nor’ (doffs cap accordingly, supposedly thankful)
FrippEnos · 24/02/2021 07:19

The thing with summer schools is that they can't make it compulsory for teachers.

They would have to ask for volunteers to be in, or get external providers.

But I am sure that the main boards will be full of the usual suspects whinging about lazy teachers and how we should be doing out civic duty.

On the plus side, as a teacher of a bottom bucket subject, I doubt that I will even be asked.

looseddaughter · 24/02/2021 07:20

Just seen Gavin on Sky saying the results of the exam consultation will be released 'incredibly soon'?? Wtf does that even mean? I cannot believe we still don't know what's going to happen and I thought it was being announced tomorrow. I wish I hadn't seen it now...

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 24/02/2021 07:36

Good luck @Piggywaspushed! I have seen the way you give calm, measured advice and support people on here. Speak like that in your interview and you'll smash it!

Summer school is a no from DH and very emphatic NO WAY from DS who will be Y7 next year. He says he'll go in for a day or two max to meet some of the other children and teachers if it's fun activities like art, dt, cooking, science experiments.

RandomGrammarPun · 24/02/2021 07:40

I'm pretty sure we still have to provide KWV with a place through til their year group reopens.

rainingcats · 24/02/2021 07:49

I will not be going in to run summer schools
My Christmas, feb half term and now Easter holidays have all been restricted in some way thanks to the lockdown so no way am I giving up any of my summer holidays. If that makes me lazy or selfish so be it. I also have been working my arse off delivering a full timetable virtually so there in theory should not be a need for pupils to catch up. I also really feel for slt who no doubt will need to be in supervising this during the summer.

The year sizes into sevens I can see the benefits (we used to run a two week summer school for the year sixes into sevens each year until the funding was scrapped) however I will not be volunteering.

parrotonmyshoulder · 24/02/2021 07:55

What we need to be allowed to do is find out where the children are, and then teach them. Without arbitrary targets or externally set time scales. Primary I mean - I have no idea what you secondary people are going through with exam worries.

Yea we do. I’ve already been told I won’t be in my computer room at least first week back (and the other two) as that is where the key worker and vulnerable children will still be but they don’t know where they will put me yet. So nice to know what I have to plan for, in the ‘two weeks planning’ the govt have ‘gifted’ us!
ChloeDecker · 24/02/2021 08:01

Massive good luck wishes piggy! 🍀

PussyCatInChristmasStockings · 24/02/2021 08:21

Good luck 🤞🏻 today Piggy and I hope the headache buggers off soon.

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 24/02/2021 08:24

Good luck Piggy!

flumposie · 24/02/2021 08:30

Good luck Piggy. Summer school is a no from me !

DriveInSaturday · 24/02/2021 08:46

Good luck today Piggy.

MrsHamlet · 24/02/2021 08:52

Sorry Jan - trouble is you just can't control Bob. He's a lone wolf...
And this is the first time anyone has ever wanted Bob 🤣

Go, piggy - your son sounds ace!

JanFebAnyMonth · 24/02/2021 09:03

Heard Gav on R4 trying to conceal that all children were not going to be back on 8 March.

hedgehogger1 · 24/02/2021 09:05

Getting irritated by people saying how pleased they are that they're in their 20s and have no health conditions and already been jabbed. I'm CV, get flu jan every year and fuck knows when I'll get mine.

MrsHamlet · 24/02/2021 09:09

Getting irritated by people
Just this, to be honest

SansaSnark · 24/02/2021 09:12

Yes, we do have to still provide key worker places. We have so many in today that I think this is going to massively slow down our ability to test other students as well.

We have over 20 kids in Y7 in today so no social distancing possible in school.

RandomGrammarPun · 24/02/2021 09:18

No, we can't SD ours at all. We have enough staff in, and rooms of course, but PCs tend to be fixed to one place, don't they? So they're just crammed in side by side.

Mrsbrownsgargoyle · 24/02/2021 09:39

What's that, JanFeb? Aren't they?

hedgehogger1 · 24/02/2021 09:42

My DD is year 6. I've been told by the primary school they'd put her down for extra transfer days. Not sure if that'll happen. She'll be going where I work unless I've messed up the form

SansaSnark · 24/02/2021 09:45

Yep this is definitely the issue, and in some cases they are also facing each other which is not good!
HerdyGerdy · 24/02/2021 09:51

Can I ask a non-teaching question for a minute? Does anyone else have their salary vary massively each month because of their income tax changing? I'm not sure if this is my work fucking up somehow (I didn't have it in other places) but I'm down nearly £80 this month.

MrsHamlet · 24/02/2021 09:55

It shouldn't, I don't think.
Can you look up your tax info on the government gateway?
