You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Evening all Smile

@MrsHamlet it sounds like you're having a really tough time of itFlowers I hope you are on the mend soon!

I have been lying in until around 8am -goodness knows how I'll cope next week Confused in fairness, my back has been really playing up the last two weeks -I managed to get to the physio last Thursday and Monday which has helped. She did some acupuncture on Monday- never had it before and it was a bit weird but seems to have helped!

Had quite a nice week-DS and I made a lava lamp, baked an apple cake, went for a McDonald's drive thru and have played at home. Been using the time in between to get on with the NPQML write up and I am almost doneGrin

Tomorrow's task is to get it finished and then just enjoy the last two days before the mayhem restarts. Y11 are doing assessments remotely next week so 5 bonus frees for me -every cloud and all that!

StaffRepFeistyClub · 18/02/2021 21:41

so how are Boris and the DfE going to spin their messages if we have a Big Bang return on the 8th March but NI secondaries on 22 March and Scotland doing a phased return?

It is either ok for all in at the same time or there is enough risk to warrant a phased return. Which is it?

noble Is your name perseverance? Suits you with the many school threads!

WhenSheWasBad · 18/02/2021 22:36

noble how did you get your name on the rover? So impressed.

staff God only knows what wiffle Boris will come up with. I think he’ll open schools up as normal. Just add on the lateral flow tests the parents administer at home.

I have a horrible feeling the spring term is going to be peppered with closures and possibly another lockdown in May.

Shortsighted dickheads,

JanFebAnyMonth · 18/02/2021 23:02

(Watching Valkyrie at the moment about attempted coup in Germany 1944. Jolly good film with Tom Cruise and heaps of other good actors.)

ChloeDecker · 18/02/2021 23:07

Flicked past that Jan (saw it at the cinema when it came out and liked it though!) and have landed on Tremors.

I know how to live it up, half term style!

noblegiraffe · 18/02/2021 23:18

My name is etched on a microchip on Mars 😎

You can fill out a form to have your name sent to Mars on their next mission mars.nasa.gov/participate/send-your-name/future

Maybe next time I'll get 'Noblegiraffe Roolz, Us4Them Droolz' on Mars. Like super tiny graffiti.

noblegiraffe · 18/02/2021 23:19

noble Is your name perseverance?

More like 'Bloody-minded' Grin

KatherineOfGaunt · 18/02/2021 23:21

My DH thinks there'll be a lockdown in May, too. I won't be surprised if they just open schools to all without mitigation on 8th March. Not that it affects me, really, as I'm in as usual anyway.

@ChloeDecker Tremors is such a classic! Haven't seen it in ages but I should. Kevin Bacon is great in it!

We watched 'Greenland' tonight. Not so much a disaster film as a will-they-get-to-the-plane-altogether-in-time-but-of-course-they-will film.

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 18/02/2021 23:31

I have switched my laptop on for the first time since 3pm Friday.
I've got loads of bloody emails and other platform messages from keener students sending me work to mark! Fuck that Grin
I'm not doing it until Sunday....
I have though finally planned and uploaded my lessons for Monday and Tuesday, and sketched out the rest of the week.
Some wine may have "helped".
God, this is all so crap. I'm so low, the kids won't stop bickering, I've found yr5 dd1 hasn't done loads of maths topics she should have by now so I might have to tutor her for the 11+ (having previously been determined that she should just pass or not on her own merits).
The car has died, the neighbours are being arsey, my garden is a quagmire, and I'm still going to be full-time teaching after half term, plus home educating a 4, 7 and 9 yo.
Oh and my DM apparently has fucked kidneys.
And all we can do is another bloody squelchy trek through endless mud.

Cheers....

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 18/02/2021 23:32

Sorry for the stream of consciousness. As I said - wine....

OpheliasCrayon · 18/02/2021 23:40

I'm awake and i just cannot sleep. I'm in pain because of my arthritis but I'm having a procedure tomorrow and I'm definitely not looking forward to it. So that's keeping me up. I'm fucking fed up and I just want to go home. These 4 grey walls are closing in on me......

Oh god this doesn't sound fun! I'm sorry! Shall we have an 11.30 pm pity party? I am definitely up for that right now and I can't even have any bloody wine.
noblegiraffe · 18/02/2021 23:42

Aw Enemy sounds really tough. Can’t you stick DD on Oak Academy for the missing maths?

Look at this archaeologist’s expression on discovering a rare Roman artefact to cheer you up www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cambridgeshire-56113457

noblegiraffe · 18/02/2021 23:44

The procedure is the next step to getting home, Ophelia. Means to an end. Sorry it’s so tough Flowers

Oh she is fucking happy!

I did ancient history at uni before my PGCE and I love a bit of roman artefact.

In other good news the Rover landed on mars - I bet they looked pretty happy too over at nasa...

From a maths point of view since you're the maths teacher @noblegiraffe ... I think if I had to try to remember how to solve a quadratic equation, or stoically have someone do something fairly vile to my digestive tract... I will be more successful at the latter...

I often try to desperately remember how to do them because I realise my children will have to but to no avail. Fortunately my DH is a mathematician though so I'm probably off the hook!

I have optimistically asked my husband to hold fire on all the books which have now been delivered... I'm hoping to be able to go home and give them to the girls myself....

JanFebAnyMonth · 18/02/2021 23:52

That artefact May have been found very near my home village, am on a mission (non Martian!) to find out.

Sorry for your respective situations Ophelia and Enemy.

OpheliasCrayon · 18/02/2021 23:53

@JanFebAnyMonth

That artefact May have been found very near my home village, am on a mission (non Martian!) to find out.

Sorry for your respective situations Ophelia and Enemy.

I have only just now realized it was a penis.

I somehow glossed over that upon the first reading.

noblegiraffe · 18/02/2021 23:56

Grin that's amazing that you missed the penis aspect of the story Ophelia!

Suggest you try solving a quadratic equation while undergoing the procedure tomorrow. Drown one unpleasantness out with the other.

noblegiraffe · 18/02/2021 23:57

If that were near me, Jan I'd definitely be angling to have my photo taken with it.

Reminds me of the set of GCSE textbooks in my classroom.

JanFebAnyMonth · 18/02/2021 23:58

Now noble, as we've previously established, I do have standards....

I know ! I just scrolled straight down to look for the picture of whoever was looking happy, to see how happy they were and evidently failed to realise that she was that level of happy because she'd found found an ancient cock.

I'll let you know how that goes re: tomorrow ....
