You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Thank you for tips.

It's year 8 and I lead on three groups and had no control over bookings so I assume I'll be jumping from one class to another and needing to open different markbooks etc. I may try and print off a copy of each classes mark book and just apply highlighter to kids whose parents have booked. There's such limited data though anyway.

I will make some notes on who has and hasn't engaged with remote learning as it's a good opportunity to praise - I'm assuming it will be kids who've been engaging whose parents will have bothered to book appointments especially as it was announced to parents and then I was fully booked within a very short space of time so the uber keen types I guess.

I'll feel better when I actually have some information.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 20/02/2021 20:22

Yes it will have been a free for all when the bookings open. I really hope you have breaks scheduled, our first one didn't and staff had to WhatsApp SLT to ask them how they were supposed to wee!

noblegiraffe · 20/02/2021 20:41

I went into school for parents evening so I could have my laptop for appointments and a desktop for looking up data.

I started the appointment with discussing the kid in class before Christmas like a normal parents evening, then briefly moved onto their engagement in lockdown and asked how they were finding it etc. Then talked about areas for improvement and where they could find resources if needed.

You don't have to start the next appointment bang on time if schoolcloud so you can have a quick swig of tea in between.

noblegiraffe · 20/02/2021 20:55

I don't dance by the way, so I'll look after coats and bags.

Someone said they thought I was a bloke on that other thread that's now gone. I feel totally vindicated that I said before that the problem was that I didn't post a ladylike enough fashion!

JanFebAnyMonth · 20/02/2021 21:28

Oh gosh didn't realise it had been deleted, hope it didn't get nasty...

I definitely dance.

Grin and 1000 posts on my thread in 10 hours. Setting new records all over the place!

RandomGrammarPun · 20/02/2021 21:56

Sounds shit, Noble.

I need a rap on the knuckles if I dare venture out of here, baby names and books ever again.

CallmeAngelina · 20/02/2021 21:58

Games night with dh and kids here. The good thing about having grown up kids is that they bring you alcohol whenever you ask for it!
Trained from the cradle!

Viciouslybashed · 20/02/2021 22:00

@noblegiraffe you have the patience of a Saint 😂. I appreciate your threads even if I don't always comment.

Piggywaspushed · 20/02/2021 22:03

I just spilled wine because I nodded off. DH didn't seem to notice.

MrsHerculePoirot · 20/02/2021 22:21

Am I too late for shots?!? And dancing on tables? I deffo am overdue a night out like this.... I can only do it approx once every 18 months these days....

Been geocaching all day with the kids and then playing escape room type things online all evening! Only just out the kids to bed (the littlest one just played on the switch until 10pm 😱)

JanFebAnyMonth · 20/02/2021 22:24

When flicking through earlier I was a bit Shock, I thought someone was wanting to make sure that SLT has scheduled rest breaks from the dancing and shots......

Tailrunner · 20/02/2021 22:38

We used schoolcloud for our appointments and it was okay unless a parent was struggling to connect then I ended up talking very quickly in the 1min 49 sec left until we were cut off Grin. I was glad my first parent's evening was year 9 and all about GCSE options so less data focused and more about the differences between trilogy and triple science.

I'm on the red wine and trying to forget that I have to be back on Teams in less than 48 hours.

MsAwesomeDragon · 20/02/2021 22:42

I'm exhausted, and have my monthly migraine. Dd2 is only just going to bed. I've walked 9 miles today with the dog we borrowed, and he's still got loads of energy!!! I'm knackered.

MrsHerculePoirot · 20/02/2021 22:42

I talked about the wrong child for 3 mins of one of my appts and had to style it out and turn it around for the last 2.... but think I got away with it 🤦‍♀️

MrsHamlet · 20/02/2021 22:45

Can we only invite the SLT in the republic for dancing and shots? I'm still recovering from the year the AHT danced on the table to "man I feel like a woman" at the Christmas do.
The hotel belonged to some parents, and the AHT is a man (and now a head). Some things cannot be unseen.

MrsHerculePoirot · 20/02/2021 22:53

@TheHoneyBadger I did three lots of online parents evenings last half term. I’d say don’t do shots and dance on the table. Most of mine I finished in about 3 mins.

I was positive, talked about in classroom learning prior to xmas, remote engagement. Generally was positive and encouraging. Asked how they were finding it and what aspects of remote they enjoyed the most/found hardest/anything that would make it easier for them. Gave them one thing to focus on - Usually that was the time gone!

Cantaloupeisland · 20/02/2021 22:55

Pretty much every paper reporting all back March 8th as fact now so I'll be amazed if they do stagger it. Government really are a shower of bastards. I'm off to bed with a book, rock n roll!

Damn it, there goes summer. Short sighted dickheads.
RandomGrammarPun · 20/02/2021 23:20

I'm mostly pissed off if we don't get masks in classrooms.

Whilst we're in with KWV groups, all staff are wearing masks all the time (and maybe 10% of the kids?) But that's because we're only supervising/occasionally assisting with their live lessons/work from behind them, so don't need to be able to speak to them that much and not face to face.

When we're back in as normal, we're facing them and vv, we need to talk almost constantly and so we can't really wear masks (or won't be allowed to). Therefore, we need them to.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 20/02/2021 23:31

Saw that they want to have every one vaccinated by the end of July. Makes me think that they'll do occupation stuff after groups. There will only be 6 weeks in it by that point, and it's an easy win.
