You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Morning all

I hope everything goes well Ophelia, and that you get some answers and heavy-duty meds, MrsH.

Not much on the agenda for me today. I have a scratchy throat which I'm overanalysing, and which is probably down to dust and spores from yesterday's mould clearing adventures, but I'm staying put to be on the safe side.

OpheliasCrayon · 19/02/2021 10:18

Thanks all. I've already has a colonoscopy this time round @TheHoneyBadger - but that was nothing compared to somehow ending up having had SIX last year when I flared. I got to the point thinking that this had to be some sort of cruel joke .. you truly cannot need to see up there so many times in three months !

This is endoscopy so the other end but I've not actually had that before and I don't like the idea of it !!!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 19/02/2021 10:26

My partner has both regularly (he has UC and is part of an Oxford Uni trial) - he reckons they're about the same in terms of general grimness. If that helps.

MrsHamlet · 19/02/2021 10:35

I had to have an endoscopy before day surgery. My friend had come with me so she could take me home afterwards. She went a very funny colour - I'd got used to them by that point 😂

Lol well I have until this afternoon to find out but I think I can then go home after !
DrMadelineMaxwell · 19/02/2021 10:46

Looks like we Welshie ks2 teachers are back a week after England....so much for them repeatedly saying they would monitor the difference the younger kids returning would make before we making other changes. I took that to mean they would watch the return then make the announcement....no. Announce then watch instead.

Upside, my dd is better in school in y11 even though she doesn't think so, and exam years are also to return.
And no more distance teaching with 15 hub kids in person at the same time.

noblegiraffe · 19/02/2021 10:50

Fingers crossed for a quick and easy procedure, Ophelia, followed by an even faster discharge from hospital.

Saucery · 19/02/2021 11:05

Crossing crossables for you Ophelia and a swift return home.

MrsH you’ll be in your appt now - good! Worst pain I was ever in was a trapped nerve in my back but I still felt I was wasting the OOH dr’s time. He did not agree!

Explored a bit more of my Local Area this morning. It is quite interesting I suppose and we’re better off than a lot of people for open spaces. Absolutely craving a fell or a lake now, though.

Delivering food orders to 2 relatives in a bit. Strictly front garden quick convo with masks on, but it feels like an exciting trip out Hmm

Then more puppy planning ❤️

SmileEachDay · 19/02/2021 11:15

Good news. How are you feeling?

MrsH have they given you the good drugs and some sort of Victorian back brace?

JanFebAnyMonth · 19/02/2021 11:15

Thinking of you Ophelia and MrsH.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 19/02/2021 11:24

all we can do is another bloody squelchy trek through endless mud

I feel your pain on that one. We had a walk yesterday where no one slipped over in the mud. First one this half term.

JanFebAnyMonth · 19/02/2021 11:43

Poor reporting from the Telegraph (!):

From an article based on Steve Chalke pointing out that it'll take weeks to get a large secondary all back if the first week in has to include two tests per student - unless no schoolwork is actually done that week -

But a new analysis by the Institute of Fiscal Studies (IFS) has found that a phased return to school will “likely widen the gaps” between children of different ages.

They then say "researchers found...", but link to their article from last May, talking about June plans.

Mistake or malicious? The IFS study was from last month and may have included the bit about phased return, I don't know. But a couple of weeks difference in eg Y10's return from Y9's return is going to widen any gaps in and of itself!

MrsHamlet · 19/02/2021 11:47

Complete waste of time. Keep taking OTC medication. Try private physio. Come back if your arm drops off.

cornercupboard · 19/02/2021 11:48

Cock anecdote from my naice gels' grammar: Middlemarch, Casaubon would toss himself in a corner. Snigger snigger snigger.

Appuskidu · 19/02/2021 11:48

Does the plan seem to be that they are planning to test secondary school children before returning and then their parents will (or will not) do LF tests on them at home twice a week?

What’s the plan for primary?! Open on 8th as before?

MrsHerculePoirot · 19/02/2021 11:54

Oh no MrsH that doesn’t sound helpful!

SmileEachDay · 19/02/2021 12:02

Oh no MrsH - that’s shit.

WhenSheWasBad · 19/02/2021 12:04

Oh MrsH I’m so sorry. That’s crap.

JanFebAnyMonth · 19/02/2021 12:06

Yes appu, think there's been mention of primary having tests sent home too but seems vaguer.

JanFebAnyMonth · 19/02/2021 12:06

MrsH, get thee to an osteopath!

Piggywaspushed · 19/02/2021 12:08

Most GPs are a waste of time with chronic pain. It's debilitating and , if untreated, can lead to mental health problems. And yet they lack sympathy , I find.

MrsHamlet · 19/02/2021 12:09

He was about 12 as well 🤣

chocolateisavegetable · 19/02/2021 12:11

Finally signing in to the new thread (thanks Staff ), and very impressed by the high-brow topic of conversation that I missed.

MrsH really sorry to hear about your problems and the lack of help Sad

Also thinking of you Ophelia

I'm just generally feeling down. I'm ok about the first 2 weeks with the small(ish) number of children - but am dreading Monday's announcement.

noblegiraffe · 19/02/2021 12:14

LOOK AT THESE GRAPHS

The secondary one in particular is incredible, but the primary one is also good, given how many are in school at the moment.

They are quite something noble.
