You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Finally the doctors have a plan!

MrsHamlet · 16/02/2021 11:52

Hooray Ophelia

MsAwesomeDragon · 16/02/2021 11:56

Yay for a plan Ophelia!!! I hope it's a good plan, that will make you better enough to go home soon.

Beachhuts90 · 16/02/2021 11:59

That's great, Ophelia!!

I have had some back and leg pain too recently. The leg pain I can attribute to lockdown because the kids in school don't have enough people to play with so we participate, and I pulled a muscle in one. Dunno about the back pain but maybe you are right about it being related to online learning etc.

namechangedyetagain · 16/02/2021 12:05

Is it too early for Wine?

MrsHamlet · 16/02/2021 12:13

Nope, name
I've marked some comically bad essays so I'm thinking about gin!

cornercupboard · 16/02/2021 12:14

Another herniated disc person here. Had a huge episode a few years back, sciatica triggered it, then was bent double for a week. A really hardcore physio abroad got me upright, and some probably illegal over the counter in this country foreign tranquilisers, but the NHS would not refer me for an MRI for 4 months by which time it had started to slip back in. I had pathetic NHS physio which was a total waste of time, paid for acupuncture which was a bit woo but interesting, although by this time again, the thing was going back by itself. Am left with permanent nerve damage on the bad side and can't scrunch up my toes or lift my leg behind me without agonising cramp pain.
The only thing that made any difference at all was heat, my dad bought me a clay hot pack which is mouldable and stays in the shape you make it, as well as a wearable one which you can tie on to various bits of you (great hilarity from DH who asks me if I am wearing my strap on, in front of friends, hahahahaha).

Suffering from grinding teeth, neck and shoulder pain now too. Gives me migraines also. Feel like Marvin the Paranoid Android , "I've got this terrible pain in all the diodes down my right side" sort of thing.

chocolateisavegetable · 16/02/2021 12:15

Ophelia that's great news - so pleased for you Smile

namechanged as long as we all agree it's not too early for chocolate, I'm fine with you starting on the wine

namechangedyetagain · 16/02/2021 12:22

Chocolate pretty much ok from break time onwards I'd say.

I need a kick up the arse. Woken up with the doom. Massive to do list. All of which seems impossible to me right now. Been out for a walk, come back to it and nope still no clue where to start.

Feeling doubtful if I will make the end of the course today Sad

Appuskidu · 16/02/2021 12:29

Interesting that the author of that Warwick study isn’t impressed with the media headlines about it...

Right name consider yourself kicked. You can do it.

thecatfromjapan · 16/02/2021 12:39

What's the worst thing in the list, name?

FlagsFiend · 16/02/2021 12:44

I find if I'm overwhelmed and don't know where to start then I pick the one that looks easiest/quickest and do that. It makes the list shorter and as you have achieved something provides motivation.

Frlrlrubert · 16/02/2021 12:48

You can do it name.

I usually organise by deadline, start with something that won't take too long. Build in breaks for longer tasks - I will make a cup of tea when I have done 1/4 of this, etc.

That said, my next 'job' today is the Big Shop, and I'm massively procrastinating.

JanFebAnyMonth · 16/02/2021 12:49

Oh that's very interesting from the Warwick guy Appu.

noblegiraffe · 16/02/2021 12:51

I know just what you need, name

I've got to do a big tidy-up today. Kick-ass music helps. Or at least it will do when I get round to it.

SmileEachDay · 16/02/2021 12:52

I wonder if any other threads would like to see that screenshot of the Warwick guy.

chocolateisavegetable · 16/02/2021 12:58

@SmileEachDay

I wonder if any other threads would like to see that screenshot of the Warwick guy.
There's no chair involved in that sitting I hope?
Appuskidu · 16/02/2021 13:03

He seems quite pissed off with the MS media!

noblegiraffe · 16/02/2021 13:05

Ben Goldacre used to write a lot about shitty science journalism. Scientists getting pissed off that an interesting small study in mice was trumpeted as 'CURE FOR CANCER FOUND' by the Daily Mail. Studies have always been misrepresented this way.

namechangedyetagain · 16/02/2021 13:25

Oh my gosh he's rather beautiful 😍. I could kind of do with him at my side at all times. Saving to my phone for when I need. who is it . I usually like dark brooding types Aiden Turner but quite honestly at the minute I'm not choosy.

So the things on my list (all equally bad)
Reflection essay for next week 1500 words
Essay on curriculum and assessment 3500 words
Evidence bundle (half focus children home learning and done bugger all)
Plan English block for next term
Start personal statement so it's nearly sorted by March

Easy bits I ticked off yesterday so I'm left with the grunge !!! Have had to take a valium tablet for the first time in I don't know how long as I just couldn't stop the panic😪

MrsHamlet · 16/02/2021 13:26

I'd start with the reflection essay to get it done. Then something fun - plan the English :)

chocolateisavegetable · 16/02/2021 13:29

name have Chris Hemsworth on repeat when you do your personal statement Wink

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 16/02/2021 13:33

Yep, I'd do the reflection essay and then the planning. I've done pretty knowledge organisers so far this holiday because they are the things I like.

Next I'll do science planning for first 3 weeks, then art. Science leads directly into English which I'm planning for the first 3 weeks back at actual school (assuming we're back on 8th).

MrsHamlet · 16/02/2021 13:39

I'm about to dive into some essays about ungendering the English language. I don't want to.
