You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

@EnemyOfEducationNo1

I'm bored of my little experiment now. I think it has proved the point though. Good night all.
The entitlement of some of the posters there is off the scale. Wow.

Anyway - moving on so this isn't a TAAT - best of luck to everyone for tomorrow! New week ahead of us all.

DreamingofBrie · 18/01/2021 01:22

I'm sorry to hear about your FIL and MIL, HerdyGerdy Flowers.

Please take care of yourselves everyone, especially those who are unwell, recovering or grieving. Hope that this week runs smoothly.

TheHoneyBadger · 18/01/2021 06:32

Woke up at 3am and was instantly wide awake. I have put together a power point and worksheet and now just need to record myself and the lesson will be done.

Going to feel like a long day waking up at 3!

Hope everyone else slept better.

Piggywaspushed · 18/01/2021 07:12

Selfish post. I only have 4 frees this week. I am full time and head of two departments. How can this be OK? Angry

Schools are safe, secure places.”, so it must be the journey to and from school that’s the problem.

Obviously

Apart from the fact this is utter rubbish, how do they expect students to get to school? Teleportation?

It's not okay at all. We have assistant HOYs with more frees than that but they're young women who weep a lot and the head responses well to that sort of thing
MrsHamlet · 18/01/2021 07:35

Tut, Sansa where's your can do attitude?!

Piggywaspushed · 18/01/2021 07:38

Yeah our AHOYS get about 6 frees a week....

I am supposed to have way more because of an historical agreement but it is yet to be honoured. Sod it. Am Oaking this week. At least once.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 18/01/2021 07:39

Oh piggy

I'll join you, had my first PPA of the term last week and only got one this week. So many dept members off that I'm teaching in my PPA. I know I know I shouldn't be, but there are not many other options. Most of my ks3 lessons have 60 kids in now too Shock

Piggywaspushed · 18/01/2021 07:39

Maybe they should stay at school in giant sleepovers. Teachers are renowned for their selflessness and no doubt would stay with them.

Piggywaspushed · 18/01/2021 07:41

I haven't covered anyone yet herc so you win but we do adopt the same approach. I mean, that's what Oak is for! Surely it wouldn't actively harm kids if the teacher wasn't there for a few lessons and work was set? I think people take advantage of core subjects with this kind of cover. if I was off for film, no one would be able or available to do it remotely and I am sure I would just bung work on Classroom.

JanuaryChill · 18/01/2021 07:44

But just imagine for one minute, that Boris had a chum who happened to sell Floo powder. DfE buys up enough for every child to whoosh along anachronistic chimneys and appear in schools via the big ovens in some school kitchens.

Shock Horror!

Mysteriously, school outbreaks still happen!

How can this be?! 🧐

Cracklefraggle · 18/01/2021 07:46

Bloody hell Piggy I have more frees than that for 2nd!
Herc that's rediculous! Has anyone said that they can't just have work set? Youtube videos and a twinkl worksheet? Wink

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 18/01/2021 07:47

You're right piggy, we do get taken advantage of. Plus the best cover resources out there are for core. Unlike my other subject which if I set cover it's awful because there's nothing pre done. No one else would cover that lesson though....!

SansaSnark · 18/01/2021 07:49

@JanuaryChill So sorry for your loss

@MrsHamlet Just thinking that they probably expect everyone to have a car and be able to drop their kids in.

Whilst classrooms obviously aren't safe, I do think there is something in it getting passed around on school busses. I think two of the school closing outbreaks in my county were linked to busses.

The thing is, surprisingly enough, the kids usually get a school bus because they have no other way of getting to school. Lots don't have parents who can drop them in because the parent has to travel in another direction for work, or, in some cases they don't have a car at all.

So unless someone is going to supply lots of extra buses and drivers, saying that it's transmitted on the way to and from school is pointless.

cornercupboard · 18/01/2021 07:57

DriveInSaturday hello, I'm also on unpaid leave, it's shit isn't it?

Sorry to hear sad news January and Flowers to you and herdy.
Is today Shit Monday, or Manic Depressive Monday, or whatever they call it? Feels like it.

Good luck everyone with another week.

JanuaryChill · 18/01/2021 08:10

So wait a minute corner and Drivein, basically you've been furloughed but without the pay? (Obviously not a minor difference).

Is that allowed? Unions?

SansaSnark · 18/01/2021 08:52

Blue Monday I think they call it and yes.

Did my first online tutor time. Went fine. About 1/3 of the students attended.

HerdyGerdy · 18/01/2021 08:58

@JanuaryChill

So wait a minute corner and Drivein, basically you've been furloughed but without the pay? (Obviously not a minor difference).

Is that allowed? Unions?

Is that even legal?

And thanks all. It’s all a bit shit and I suspect it’s all about to get worse.

HerdyGerdy · 18/01/2021 09:04

My laptop has also just told me that I averaged 11hrs of use per day last week. That ain’t good in itself 😵

mistressiggi · 18/01/2021 09:20

So my stream video is up but my teams group of students can't access it, I must have set permissions wrongly (I don't want the whole organisation seeing it/me). I just copied the link it gave 😭😭

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 18/01/2021 09:34

Aaagh, I just said "go to the normal webpage" to my SEND children. As if they aren't normal.

#thingswebeatourselvesupfor

mistressiggi · 18/01/2021 09:40

Ooh, think I have fixed it now but half of them have gone back to sleep I think Smile

GuyFawkesDay · 18/01/2021 10:05

Sending love @JanuaryChill I'm so sorry xx

Blue Monday it is. Got 5 lessons, tutor time and 2 online meetings.

Yay Sad
