You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

We could do it in shifts around the day job and still do it better!

Appuskidu · 17/01/2021 20:27

And as my sister put it the other day, 'it's like a pregnancy test, not a contraceptive.' Which some people in government would do well to remember.

Absolutely. Would you knowingly suggest people use no contraception, just because you bought a load of cheapo pregnancy tests off some bloke called Dom down the market?!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 17/01/2021 20:35

It came up because somebody on another forum had said a friend of theirs working in the NHS had been told by test and trace they didn't need to isolate because they were using LF tests despite being a close contact of a known case.

So either t&t don't know their arse from their elbow or the government are moving towards this as a more general policy.

If this is our government’s plan to get out of this pandemic, we really are f*cked!

What on earth must other countries think of us?!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 17/01/2021 20:44

Since the new variant I now need some sort of permit from the government to get home from the UK and they'll only grant them in exceptional circumstances. It's a combination of horror and absolute laughing stock I think.

JanuaryChill · 17/01/2021 20:48

Oh yes, it's definitely the plan to use LF tests in some workplaces, in fact I think some may even have started using them. Sorry haven't got a reference.

CarrieBlue · 17/01/2021 20:53

They were using them for flight crew - I’ve heard of at least one person who tested negative in the U.K. before the flight and positive on landing at the destination. Now of course, viral load could have developed over the duration of the flight but then unreliable test that is at best picking up 50% of positives - who knows?

Without wanting to out myself, I have a lot of family abroad who are very worried for my family's safety, based on what they are reading and seeing on their news about our government's approach to the pandemic.

JanuaryChill · 17/01/2021 21:32

I guess this may go some way towards explaining the lack of movement by the DfE on masks in school::
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2021/01/17/gavin-williamson-accused-breaking-promise-45000-deaf-children/

I had forgotten there was mention of clear masks somewhere, months and months ago.

(After that, if you want to follow the link below to their article on long Covid, be sure to be feeling brave. Sad)

JanuaryChill · 17/01/2021 21:33

By "go some way" I don't mean that the issue excuses the lack of movement

HerdyGerdy · 17/01/2021 21:56

Sorry for your loss, January.

My FiL has been taken into hospital today with Covid. It’s apparently as bad as it can get. DP has had to have a DNR conversation with the doctor. MiL has been left at home and is also clearly sick. DP is going out of his mind and we can’t do much to help. They were shielding. How the fuck?

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 17/01/2021 21:58

Oh HerdyGerdy. Flowers to you and your DH

I have heard of other shielders catching it locally - usually after a medical appointment or care visit ,Sad

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 17/01/2021 21:59

I'm running a little experiment on the coronavirus board ...

noblegiraffe · 17/01/2021 22:00

Is it trying to get 0 posts, Enemy? Or is it just working out that way?

noblegiraffe · 17/01/2021 22:01

Oh no that’s awful, Herdy :( and your poor DP.

Medra · 17/01/2021 22:02

Hello my lovely fellow republicans.

@JanuaryChill Lots of love. I’m so sorry to hear your news.

I’ve not been around much because recovering from Covid and teaching remotely is hard work. Our school have delayed LFTs after the snow last week meant they had to shut the site.

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 17/01/2021 22:05

Well, I posted a load of hopefully neutral threads about various professions wanting masks - the only one to get pounced on and actually replied to..... Have a guess ,Grin
MrsHamlet · 17/01/2021 22:12

Thinking of you herdy

MrsHerculePoirot · 17/01/2021 22:19

@HerdyGerdy sorry to hear - what a horrible situation. Keep posting here if it will help.

Loshad · 17/01/2021 22:39

@JanuaryChill, so sorry to hear about your dear brother, look after yourself and definitely tell work that you aren’t able to come in at least for this week.
@HerdyGerdy hugs for you too, awful situation

JanuaryChill · 17/01/2021 22:41

I'm sorry herdy. Could it have come into them on post or shopping? I am beginning to wonder if this new strain(s) are even more than 70% transmissible than the 'OG' - as the kids say.

JanuaryChill · 17/01/2021 22:42

My boss and dep head have kind of said take as long as I need. So glad we're not in normal termtime.

MrsHerculePoirot · 17/01/2021 23:19

Good. Now make sure to take them upon that offer!
EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 17/01/2021 23:51

I'm bored of my little experiment now. I think it has proved the point though.
Good night all.
