You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

We'll need a new thread by lunchtime I reckon 🤨

phlebasconsidered · 31/12/2020 08:50

Just woke up after a massive 3 hours sleep. Dd was up crying till 3 because she doesn't want me to go into work. She is old enough and clever enough to not believe soothing lies. Feel a bit helpless really. Then I laid awake staring at the ceiling in a rage until finally giving up and getting up for a cuppa only to nod off on the sofa with the dog. Woke up with horrible joint pain which usually means a thyroid flare up which is about right.

We still have a staff meeting on Monday. In tier 4. My head is a sociopath.

Sorry you're having a shit time Opelia and congrats on the happy baby news upthread! Get signed off. I would.

Have amused myself calling out Kier, NEU and NASWT on their Facebook pages for being toothless bloody wimps. I'm banned from Boris's page already as it was my go-to insult one.

SmileEachDay · 31/12/2020 08:50

Where is the DfE thread?

DreamingofBrie · 31/12/2020 08:55

From Tom Sherrington.

It's very easy to joke about Gav and find it funny, isn't it , as a defence mechanism …

But Ed Sec is a SENIOR cabinet post. If anything, Gove saw to that and raised its profile : it's no longer supposed to be a post where you put someone very loyal but a shit.

mumsneedwine · 31/12/2020 09:07

I am now more confused. Are we remote teaching all year groups next week or just 11 & 13 ? Gav says one thing and DfE say another.
I have written my resignation letter and now just have to decide whether to hand it in or not. I love my job, love the kids, but I love living a bit more. Might hide under the duvet today.

Piggyinblankets · 31/12/2020 09:20

No one know mum

We need a sigh emoji...

Hercwasonasnowball · 31/12/2020 09:21

I guess HTs will be left to decide. Cue the MN posts "my dc has no remote learning but her friend in a different school does, therefore all teachers are lazy wankers"

Iamnotthe1 · 31/12/2020 09:22

@mumsneedwine

Essentially, it looks like it will come down to what your school's leadership decide to do.

Again, this will mean different schools do different things and so, when things aren't equal or functioning, it'll be the fault of the school and not the DfE.

mumsneedwine · 31/12/2020 09:23

Thanks everyone. Head just emailed and we are remote teaching for everyone next week. At least I can now plan.

This is so going to happen.
noblegiraffe · 31/12/2020 09:25
@noblegiraffe love your response on the DfE thread👏🏼
I've finally run out of words.

Think I spoke for a lot of us though!

Piggyinblankets · 31/12/2020 09:28

I really hope our HT says no remote learning for years 9 and 10. We have 700 years 11 and 13 who, theoretically,. need to be tested twice from Tuesday to Friday next week. He won't , though.

Presumably no one is assuming these young people will mix with anyone at the weekend ??

Even though young people are so virus replying that they are allowed to play team sport in tier 4. For example.

ChloeDecker · 31/12/2020 09:28

You absolutely did noblegiraffe!!!

Sad that there were so many crazies on Mumsnet late last night though. Some horrific posts out there Sad

Piggyinblankets · 31/12/2020 09:29

I also still don't get how our students are supposed to get to schol for testing during a week that they are remote learning??

Anyone? Anyone??

Piggyinblankets · 31/12/2020 09:30

I don't think there are lots of crazies. I think the same maybe 30 max posters namechange. Sometimes several times per thread.

They do NOT represent the public mood and they know that, which is why they are so angry all the time.

Hercwasonasnowball · 31/12/2020 09:31

I also still don't get how our students are supposed to get to schol for testing during a week that they are remote learning??

Nor me. Unless they do a year group per day and no live lessons for that day?

FiggyPuddingFiend · 31/12/2020 09:31

From what we've been told sounds like the plan is to teach y11/13 online and set consolidation activities for other year groups for the first week.

Achristmaspudsskidu · 31/12/2020 09:32

@Piggyinblankets

I also still don't get how our students are supposed to get to schol for testing during a week that they are remote learning??

Anyone? Anyone??

Something I read in that last week of term said that if children couldn’t get in for their designated test time, they could attend for the whole day. I forget where though.

Is there a poster on the propaganda thread who appears to work for the DfE?!

Piggyinblankets · 31/12/2020 09:32

I'd be OK with that figgy but my head thinks our remote learning live is gold standard so...

A huge number of our kids won't physically be able to get to school. 40% are bussed in.

phlebasconsidered · 31/12/2020 09:34

@Piggyinblankets dd's grassroots football team has just been closed again as has the junior rugby. She's gutted but i'm not!

ChloeDecker · 31/12/2020 09:34

I think a really big issue about next week is that the foot have clearly say no remote learning for non exam groups but the law they themselves passed recently says schools have to.

Is this going to be another situation where schools doing what the govt tells them, could leave them open to being sued by parents and the five washing their hands of it!?

NeurotreeWenceslas · 31/12/2020 09:34

Not my area, but not far. Something odd going on in Gateshead
