You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

I'm sorry her questioning is shit. She's asking nothing of any use

NeurotreeWenceslas · 31/12/2020 08:24

My thoughts, I'm listening again.

He's admitting that the virus will start in a child who'll spread to everyone else.

Monkeytennis97 · 31/12/2020 08:24

@Hercwasonasnowball

He's now saying his child will be isolating..... What about the daily testing?
Yes and he also said contacts would isolate

This is the DfE summary (latest) that's on twitter. Goes against what they posted yesterday and what Gavin is saying Angry Now says prioritise remote learning for all secondary years.

They need to bloody well make their minds up! Can you imagine if other professions were so incompetent!

cornercupboard · 31/12/2020 08:25

Back to the literary festival - Tracey Corderoy and Vashti Hardy, both brilliant for primary.

Piggyinblankets · 31/12/2020 08:25

Nice and true

NeurotreeWenceslas · 31/12/2020 08:25

Apparently, the testing in schools has now been made mandatory.

Is it mandatory in primary? No.

Stepawayfromtheminirolls · 31/12/2020 08:25

Congrats @Timeturnerplease! Look after yourself and your little passenger.
Thanks for the offer @MrsHamlet, I've sent you a pm.

Iamnotthe1 · 31/12/2020 08:25

@Piggyinblankets

Apparently, the testing in schools has now been made mandatory.

Is it mandatory at unis? In care homes?? Answer: no and no.

Is there anything in guidance to back this up or is it just what he's said?

They cannot mandate medical testing or procedures. FFS, they aren't allowed to insist on MMR vaccinations for school starters so this would never fly.

Monkeytennis97 · 31/12/2020 08:26

@SmileEachDay

ASK HIM ABOUT THE TESTS BEING SHIT!!!!!
Castle did on LBC

Gav replied 70% efficacious with first test,90% with second

Piggyinblankets · 31/12/2020 08:26

I don't think it is mandatory for the children but schools can no longer say no.

Hercwasonasnowball · 31/12/2020 08:27

Just heard a local EYFS teacher in ITU, two young kids and things not looking good. Fuck you Gavin, you caused this.

Stepawayfromtheminirolls · 31/12/2020 08:27

The man spouts pure BS.

Saucery · 31/12/2020 08:28

Mandatory for schools to set it up an offer it, surely? There is no medical procedure anywhere that I can think of that is mandatory! Unless it is covered by emergency pandemic legislation, but I’m pretty sure it isn’t and there will be an outcry if it is, as they could then say the vaccine is mandatory.

Hercwasonasnowball · 31/12/2020 08:28

I think it's mandatory in that schools have to offer it. Not that students have to participate.

Piggyinblankets · 31/12/2020 08:28

Did Castle call him out on that stat? That's the stat for trained medical professionals in a lab environment.

Trouble is unis cover each other's backs and so the Birmingham Uni study has had more traction in their setting.

No not that one he didn't
Iamnotthe1 · 31/12/2020 08:28

WTAF? Why is he talking about isolation when his department have actively removed isolation for secondary school students unless they are the positive case?

Iamnotthe1 · 31/12/2020 08:31

We need well-informed, assertive journalists who are able and willing to call Government ministers out on their bullshit. They are only able to lie so easily because they aren't held accountable for the things that they say.

NeurotreeWenceslas · 31/12/2020 08:31

Ophelia it sounds like your risk aversion is set very low because of that. Thanks your kids school don't need to know that you're signed off work at the mo; you could be back sooner than restrictions are lifted too so will need to secure a place.

( this is very granny suck eggs but I assume you've looked at diet? I briefly read up on AS at one point trying to untangle what the fuck was wrong with me.)

Halifaxgirl · 31/12/2020 08:32

I am teaching reception in tier 4.Can I insist on wearing a visor and /or a mask ?
My head has previously sent people home or insisted on individual meetings to persuade them they shouldn’t . I am thinking mostly for hearing reading / during phonics or when children are particularly sneezy.

Stepawayfromtheminirolls · 31/12/2020 08:32

I've just attempted to describe this shit show to DH - he has announced that we obviously have Schrodinger schools 😂

NeurotreeWenceslas · 31/12/2020 08:34

The guardian ran a couple of articles detailing why councils had refused / hesitated to use the lateral flow tests; mainly that they're more reliable in hcps environments.

Timeturnerplease · 31/12/2020 08:38

Am listening to Gav on Alexa now. 2yo is yelling NOOOOO MUMMY BORING MAN! WANT SLEEPY BUNNIES! ALEXA, TURN MAN OFF! I think she’s right.

Really feel for secondary colleagues with this shitshow. Yes primaries are in (just, in my area - 5 miles N, E or S and we’d be closed), but at least we actually KNOW what’s happening.

On another note, 2yo and I are going for tests later due to raging sore throats and a temperature (her only). Daren’t send her back to the ILs on Monday unless u know it’s just a cold. Results will be back by Sunday, right?

@OpheliasCrayon I really hope your kids are in, for your sake. We bent over backwards in March-August to provide as long a day as we could for the families we had with NHS/education parents. We didn’t ask for details of shift patterns/days worked (like we did for one non-critical ‘finance’ mum who posted pictures on Facebook of her sunbathing and renovating her garden while on furlough!!!!)

WhenSheWasBad · 31/12/2020 08:46

Caught Gav on Radio 4. I can see why they don’t let him out much. Honestly he’s not got a clue.
