You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Get the Muslim teacher, or one of their parents to come in with their prayer mat and talk about it, discuss its importance

Bang on. Her idea of primary kids were ones who sit still.

Hercwasonasnowball · 30/12/2020 13:49

I suppose you could put those in a knowledge organiser but I wouldn't want to give kids the suggestion that they can revise maths effectively by staring at a sheet.

SmileEachDay · 30/12/2020 13:54

For some classes I use c&p sections from my KOs on my lesson PPs and have quizzes based on them. They’re really good tool for anxious students and the prep session just before an exam - they know everything they are looking at is useful and it’s calming to be able to engage with something they’ve seen me use with them repeatedly.

Don’t use them at all with my very LAP classes because giving them more reading doesn’t help AT ALL.

GleamingBaubles · 30/12/2020 13:56

I give out KOs just before the end of topic test and tell them to learn the spellings and key facts as part of their revision. Some of them are crap at taking notes, or have poor attendance, so it gives them no excuse not to do some revision.

We're in tier 3, but I'm thinking we might be moved to tier 4.
I was discussing with DH what we would do if the kids school was shut. As he normally works from home anyway he is a presence in the house, but he's always on the phone, and doing critical IT infrastructure stuff so can't be disturbed... The older 2 we can trust to get on with school work and reading/TV. But the 4yo is a whirlwind wrecking ball - he needs supervising at all times - you just can't take your eyes off him. So he would have to take a keyworker place or find another mum to have him. He's the reason I got barely anything done work wise during the daytime in the last lockdown.

Changed to this..

Are all Tier 4 places 'hotspots' now?

KatherineOfGaunt · 30/12/2020 14:00

Tier 4 "hotspots"? Do they mean Tier 4 or certain places within those areas only?

Monkeytennis97 · 30/12/2020 14:01

Thinking about it in journalistic language (not that I'm an English teacher) I would imagine it means all Tier 4.

Piggyinblankets · 30/12/2020 14:02

I think that's just media speak for tier 4.

Piggyinblankets · 30/12/2020 14:02

X post Grin

Achristmaspudsskidu · 30/12/2020 14:03

That’s interesting-either it’s true, or the DF is copying the Sun?!

noblegiraffe · 30/12/2020 14:03

If two thirds of England are going to be in Tier 4, then they're not really hot spots are they?

SmileEachDay · 30/12/2020 14:04

The news coverage of parliament is making me stabby.

There are about 12 of them in the chamber, all spaced out. The rest are joining the debate remotely.

They really can fuck right off.

SansaSnark · 30/12/2020 14:05

We have inset on the 4th, and honestly I've decided I'm not going to do any planning until then and we are told what is happening!

I've caught up on my marking, so it's not like I have done no work, but I don't see the point in planning, then replanning, and perhaps replanning again- I can see everything changing at least once more before the 11th as well.

If school want me to do live lessons, that's absolutely fine- I did them for my Y8s when they were isolating, so I'm comfortable with the technology. If they want recorded powerpoints or anything else, then I'm happy to make them next week (once I'm sure they will actually be used).

But I feel like things have the potential to change again before we have children back in, so I'm just going to try and relax and enjoy the last few days of the holiday!

Achristmaspudsskidu · 30/12/2020 14:07

I reckon they’ll say we have to wait a few more days until the guidance on what constitutes a Tier 4 ‘hotspot’ is released Grin.

Sunday night?!

Piggyinblankets · 30/12/2020 14:09

DF not copying Sun : Guardian has same story.

YouGov poll showed 67% of people support closures, Parent Ping App showed roughly the same.

I could weep for year 13 though. About to start new films with both teachers and can't do their NEAs properly because of tier 4 restrictions so are supposed to suddenly be able to draw.

NeurotreeWenceslas · 30/12/2020 14:10

Shock wow that many?

Piggyinblankets · 30/12/2020 14:10

And also cannot stream film to year 11s....

Oh god, don't say this! You realise this is what'll happen, right?!
NeurotreeWenceslas · 30/12/2020 14:11

Dare I peak at the Cv board...?!

GravityFalls · 30/12/2020 14:13

Oh god, flashbacks of a lesson just before Christmas where an 18-year-old was heard saying out loud, without shame, “how do I draw a door?”

Hercwasonasnowball · 30/12/2020 14:14

piggy would you be able to get a multi user Netflix account or equivalent? Must be a nightmare for you.

I'm doing nothing til Monday. One concern is how do 'live' cover lessons work for covering staff absence? We've fudged it so far for the odd isolating bubble but if 2 members of the dept are off we need a better plan if online learning is for more than a week or so. God I hate the Tories.

SansaSnark · 30/12/2020 14:17

I reckon by the end of January we will have a tier 5, with schools permanently closed- I think that's what they might mean by "hotspots".

Either that, or another lockdown.

Can you link to where you saw that in the Guardian-I can’t see them mentioning primary at all?
