Where the dickens has it gone? Is it gone gone? Has it been renamed and I just can't find it?

How bizarre. The keyboard on my phone has just spontaneously turned pink. Strange days we are living in. I’ve decided to Tes up my mumsnet username for 2021.

7eleven · 01/01/2021 14:44

Yay. My user TES username was available. I can’t believe the site was closed down, without any notice, just before Christmas. If it had been properly moderated and anytime had read it, they would have know that several people were planning on toasting each other on Xmas day. Many posters were going to be alone, sadly a couple had been bereaved, etc etc. I know I don’t need to say how important this site was to so many people. I hadn’t downloaded the quiz!!! I miss so many people and hadn’t realised how invested I was in the site. I’m so sorry to hear about your illness Cassandra. That’s unbelievably cruel. I suspect GDW would have been straight on with advice and support for you. Vannie, I’m glad to hear your son is being taken care of. I’m so glad I have found this haven.

I don't do Facebook either.

@Bebinn, my biggest worry is my dad, but I've been so concerned about the staff. In the 13 months since dad's been there, I haven't met one member of staff that I didn't feel was professional, friendly and so caring about the residents. My sister, who is the 'named person' for dad as she lives close to the home, said she could hear the wobble in the owner's voice when he rang her with the news - he phoned every relative himself and is posting regular updates. I keep thinking about those staff who did not test positive - how terrifying it must be for them to go to work each day surrounded by so much infection. Just so scary.

Welcome, 7eleven and Happy New Year. I'm checking my posts very carefully since noticing there's no edit facility!
SantaAssociationRepresentitve · 01/01/2021 17:21

@DorsetDreams1

Happy new year! Glad to have found you but this is just not the same. Talk of FaceBook is depressing - I've successfully avoided that in the past. But is there is a particular FB group people are migrating towards, could someone name it? I would hate to lose contact with *@diddydave* 's helpful retirement posts in particular. Take care everyone.
Me too ....Diddydave was very useful

Happy New Year to all TESSERs who’ve managed to find their way onto this thread. I’m missing all the discussions we would have been having about our quietest celebrations ever, Brexit and issues about school reopening.
Poor Frodo has no one to tell how excited he is now we’ve finally left the EU.
Jude, I’m glad I have a good understanding of the nature of your posts because if recently was the first time I’d read your posts I’d be feeling very pessimistic about the future!
Sunshineneeded I’m sorry to hear about your Dad and what’s going on at the home. What a worrying time for you.
Cassandra I hope that you manage to get the treatment you need. My thoughts are with you.
Here’s hoping TES gets back up and running soon. There are so many people I miss.
My thoughts go out to those whose schools are opening on Monday. Hopefully the government will see sense very soon and close all schools and switch to online learning.
Take care everyone.

sunshineneeded1 · 01/01/2021 21:44

Thank you, @Littlejackhorner1. Have heard this evening that our school will not be opening on Monday as we thought. Don't know any more than that yet, but it's good news.

I miss “What’s Everyone Having for Dinner” and the other cookery threads. I rarely posted but always read. Sad

Soontobe60 · 01/01/2021 22:26

@Bebinn

Does anyone know why the quote function isn’t available to choose for some posters on here.
You cant quote someone’s post if they’ve quoted someone else, so if someone wants to quote this message they cant because it includes a quote from Bebbin
SarahLou67 · 01/01/2021 23:51

So Gavin has done a u-turn on London primaries but it is ridiculous putting other regions in Tier 4 and not closing their schools too. I appreciate that other Tier 4 areas have lower rates but if putting them into Tier 4 was a preventative measure (which I accept is necessary) then the same must apply to schools. We are still in on Monday and this cannot be right. This is the most scared I’ve been since March and I’m shocked that we are being forced into such dangerous conditions. With severe cold on its way we might be even more confined to just one room. We just about coped with windows open and coats on before Xmas but if temps are going to be around -3 C how can we? So do we shut windows and let the virus circulate in the room, or open them and freeze?

T334 · 02/01/2021 01:14

My TES username is "not available" for some reason, so I have modified it slightly, putting in an extra "3", and lo, it is accepted!

Getting down to more important matters, It seems that when push comes to shove, each and every one of us look out for themselves.
This means that one's posts are inevitably influenced by one's own, personal circumstances.

But the real question is , when one becomes simply a burden on the rest of one's community, what should one do?
should one accept annihilation or should one fight against it?

mantlepiece · 02/01/2021 01:23

I can’t believe there is no talk of using the teaching unions to address the very serious issues is schools.

There is no challenge in parliament to the decisions being taken by government ministers, therefore the unions are the only hope of a national body speaking up on behalf of teachers, ancillary workers and the nations children.

Sage is acknowledged as a body that can deliver a balanced scientific view of the COVID situation. Our government has time and time again dismissed its advice.

The government balances the advice from sage with economic and monetary figures.

I do believe the health crisis in our country has reached a point where the health of the nation has to come before monetary considerations.

I did hope that the Labour Party would speak up for our health workers, education workers and other people working in situations that put themselves and their families at risk. I have seen no evidence of that up to now.

The teaching unions are a great hope. I really hope the leadership of these unions are strong enough to present a case to the government and also are able to inspire their membership to join together to support each other in getting through this very difficult crisis.

Teachers are intelligent people, please fight to close the schools and sohelp support the nhs and reduce the number of deaths in our country.

SarahLou67 · 02/01/2021 04:03

I think we all feel totally let down and powerless at the moment. How bad will those figures have to get before common sense prevails? You are completely right about Labour, Mantelpiece. The only MP I’ve seen speak up for teachers is Caroline Lucas.

RoyBatty · 02/01/2021 06:46

I agree with @mantlepiece. The government have ignored SAGE and the result is yet another complete U-turn when the truth eventually becomes undeniable. Even for bojo and his pals.

A blind man wearing a blindfold could see that London schools will not open any time soon. 53000 new infections per day, averaging about 700 deaths per day. No way were schools going to open.

The Labour party have been too quiet. They should be screaming from every talk show and newscast about government stupidity. I wonder why they are not?

I reckon it will be lockdown for all until the vaccines get rolled out. Schools will go online till Easter at the earliest. Anything else would be criminally negligent and close to manslaughter.

Minnie me here. Grand to be able to touch base with TES members. Look forward to normal service being resumed. Echo the support / good wishes / advice / guidance / observations of fellow contributors.

fairydust11 · 02/01/2021 10:06

Sorry I haven’t read the complete thread, but has the tes site permanently closed? If so, are all the resources archived somewhere?

Colate · 02/01/2021 10:06

Has TES gone the same way as the BBC. The Tory party and its power base have clearly bullied the BBC into being careful how it talks about the incompetence of our present government.

If you manage to watch Sky news and ITV and compare it with the BBC, you can see that the BBC is much softer on the Tories than the other two networks.

It is rather an understatement to say that teachers have been rather vocal and caustic of our present political elite, particularly in the wake of Gove and his then adviser, Cummings, who had to be the worst ever Education ministry we have ever, EVER, had.

So has TES had pressure put upon it, to close down the forum which pretty much led in the wide spread criticism of of our incumbent incompetents.

Colate · 02/01/2021 10:08

Sorry. Has TES gone the same way as the BBC?

fairydust11 · 02/01/2021 10:08

It’s ok, I’ve found the resources 😅

Colate · 02/01/2021 10:10

Sorry again
