Where the dickens has it gone? Is it gone gone? Has it been renamed and I just can't find it?

Scary times ahead so a great relief to reunite with many Tessers. Stay safe and keep in touch.

Bebinn · 31/12/2020 09:53

Hi @EverEdith Nanny Ogg 😀 so glad you’ve found this thread. Jamvic here. Someone earlier likened this to us all washing up, one by one, on the shore of a desert island from the ruins of a shipwreck. Very apt analogy.

Bebinn · 31/12/2020 09:56

@SarahLou67

Morning all. Just checking in. Still a little shell shocked by the news that we in primary are all back next week despite spiralling infection rates. Well all except the London and Kent primaries.
It beggars belief. This ideological stubbornness has, and will, cost lives.
EverEdith · 31/12/2020 10:08

@Bebinn 👋👋👋👋 lovely to see you! Saw @MumJudeFawley before too. (Made me chuckle)
Can’t believe how much I miss popping in to see what is going on! Strange / sad time to go off as for some people this is the hardest time of year. But so glad I found here - by googling where has TES gone?

PriscillaChinchilla · 31/12/2020 10:13

Hi @EverEdith (Nanny Ogg) Coffeekid here. Glad you stumbled across this thread.

EverEdith · 31/12/2020 10:24

@PriscillaChinchilla - love the name!

PriscillaChinchilla · 31/12/2020 10:28

Believe it or not, it's a real name. She's a Costa Rican footballer and was signed to Glasgow City recently. :-)

catmothertes1 · 31/12/2020 10:47

@Geneaologist

I am now wondering if the "chat" option on the menu bar of then new updated Tes website is more akin to the "chat" that is an option on many sites - UPVC windows, that sort of thing. Maybe I am wrong. We cannot know yet what "chat" will deliver.
"@Geneaogist" I've tried it and it's one of those pop up chat facilities when you want to enquire about various things to do with various parts of the site. I tried one but got an automated answer saying they were on holiday.
sunshineneeded1 · 31/12/2020 10:47

Hi EverEdith, great to hear you. I also can't believe how much I miss TES. It was just automatic to pick up the phone and check in several times a day when not working. Miss it so much, but lovely to be in touch with so many tessers now. Hope more find their way here soon!

SarahLou67 · 31/12/2020 10:48

Strange getting used to this platform. The ads are driving me mad but I’m grateful for this haven. Have any of you heard from your schools. Son’s school emailed this am. He’s in on 11th. I feel so sorry for these schools having to set up the testing. Hearing Williamson this morning he makes it sound that all kits are ready to go and patronisingly emphasised “if school are having real difficulties with this” ( and are clearly really stupid” then the army are there to help! Watch this space I bet schools will not get the kit and PPE needed. There is a sense of deja vu about all this. Last time it was the scandal of care homes and hospitals having to manage this time it’s schools. They difference will be the degree of public sympathy. Nurses and careers got lots, teachers will not.

MrGundam · 31/12/2020 12:22

Does anyone know what's happened to TES community forum yet? I cannot believe they have taken it down at this time!

kittylion2 · 31/12/2020 12:25

Have been on MN for a few years - but nc to come on here so I would be recognised. Kittylion wasn't available so I had to add a number 2. So nice to see everyone, I don't post much on TES but I read a lot.

I definitely would pay £20 pa for a site such as the one you describe NAB.

A few people have been in contact - some of the earlier posts on this thread tell you more.
MumJudeFawley · 31/12/2020 15:30

I think the idea of wishing everyone a Happy New Year is redundant in that 2021 will make 2020 look like absolute bliss. I suppose 2021 will be body-bag year. All over the pavements. Piled high.

And on it goes! My neighbour's girlfriend has just arrived from the house fifteen miles away that she shares with her husband and son. They have never had any intention of taking notice of government advice re COVID-19 and will continue to ride roughshod over any advice or legislation due to their deep ignorance.

The other day when she was heading off home after her last visit, she was complaining to me while I was in the garden, that her daughter's shop has closed down due to the virus and throwing the daughter out of business and into deep debt.

She obviously doesn't know the different between connection and correlation. Their sickness is complete, their ignorance absolute and the only remedy a prison sentence.

I suppose the armed forces will arrive on the streets in numbers by late January 2021 and I just hope they have their rubber bullets loaded because they'll need them.

So, the twisted illness of ignorance and selfishness continues all around me and is the gift that keeps giving in that I'm on my third self-employment support grant, will receive my fourth at the end of March and should get my fifth and sixth in the first quarter of the 2021/2022 financial year.

And my returning to work date keeps on rolling back while I get all this money off the government to sit around at home. It's just like the good old days on the dole without the need to sign on. Plus, the money has gone up since the middle classes started losing their jobs or being laid off. Universal credit every month and the big grants every three months. It's brilliant! And no sign of cessation while the people ignore the rules. The gift that keeps giving!

My return to work dates have moved from 6th December to 4th January to 1st April and now it looks like it will be the start of July 2021 at the earliest: all fully funded by the government in the meantime. It's like a dream come true for me.

I did shout at the people in the village on VE75 to stop and go home at once but, they were too busy having "a good time" to care. Awarding the 'best wartime dressed villagers' award to the neighbour and his girlfriend despite her coming from fifteen miles away!

So it goes!

Keep safe, stay at home and keep well.

There is no way out of this for our selfish ignorant species. I explained all this back in March 2020. We are literally amusing ourselves to death.

There will be a vast amount of death in 2021 and a great deal of civil unrest. We need the armed forces on the streets now in preparation for our first national lockdown. This species can't do it. It's incapable of adhering to any plan. Maybe it's time for a bit of negative utilitarianism to come into play.

It's amazing how shallow the inner life of some people is! It's the garden of Gethsemane all over again: zero ability to be at peace and calmly stay at home. No conception of endurance and no philosophy. This species has amused itself to death.

I can see lots of people have posted dismay at being disconnected from their friendships on TES Community.
I too am feeling that loss, but it's great to have this crawl space at least.

But standing back from my own position, there is a wider loss to the teaching world of "Dilemmas". It was the only place where people out there could find immediate solace in a situation of Capability, disciplinary, grief with colleagues, pension issues, academy leader bolshies, neglect by mentors in training. I could go on. These are life changing career threatening situations.
I first came to TES forums some years ago with a work dilemma, and then I was hooked. Other organisations can help, the Union, Acas, Samaritans, Teacher Support etc. But on TES it was just a case of if you need a listening ear from someone who gets it, it is there on tap. As a teacher, your managers don't get you, families don't get it, the NHS don't always get it, counselling doesn't always get it. But other teachers get it, every time.

At the time, it kept me from going crazy, posting my issue on Dilemmas. And I only found it by Google searching something generic like "teacher problems".

What are people going to do now? It is the leading site on education, and yet does not help those in education who need it the most.
Some people will go crazy, people we never met, because that facility is gone. So very sad.

Removing the Community, specifically the Dilemmas bit, makes the profession less doable to some incredibly talented educationalists.
Sad.
Sorry, this post is a bit random-but this thread is exactly that-all the forums into one thread, nuts!

Agree absolutely. WD has literally saved at least one life - who knows how many more?
sunshineneeded1 · 31/12/2020 16:32

Very well said, @Hexadelica. I want to 'like' several posts but can't see how? Is it just me or doesn't it exist here?

Bebinn · 31/12/2020 16:52

Jude man - cheer up fgs. Maybe the girlfriend next door is in your neighbours bubble as he lives alone and it’s all above board & hunky-dory. Maybe rubber bullets won’t actually be necessary and even if they were the government probably would have ordered the wrong type and they wouldn’t work anyway. Maybe you won’t ever have to go back to work ever again and the free money will just keep pouring in while you enjoy your Marplesque village life Grin. Just think about all these positives going into 2021.

SalVolatilly · 31/12/2020 16:57

Interesting to see how many people are missing chatting with friends on TES. Reading this thread, one would think TES was a magical place. The only good thing about TES was that it provided a space for people to communicate with each other. But in all other respects it was a very poorly moderated shitshow. I have made lasting RL friendships through TES and am very grateful to it for that but the people that run it are totally lacking in any kind of compassion or humanity.

Bebinn · 31/12/2020 17:06

Hope everyone has the best NYE possible under the current circumstances & Happy New Year to you all in case I don’t get the chance to post on here again this evening.

I’m just off to get the table looking good for tonight Smile and to start making a mini buffet style offering for us to pick at over the evening. We’ve decided that a couple of games, a movie, the 2nd half of Blazer’s Christmas quiz and alcohol are on the agenda for tonight. (Movie we’ve chosen is Escape room on Netflix - no clue if it will be any good or not but it intrigued us).

The firework idiots have already started around here. I want to go stand in the garden & shout “YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO SET THEM OFF AT MIDNIGHT MORONS”. but I probably won’t do that.

See you in 2021 and CHEERS! SmileWine

I only wish it were so. Last June when I was trying to get emergency re-housed by social services because of the neighbour's behaviour it was, like now, because he has specifically told me he has no intention of taking any notice of the government guidelines, advice or legislation.

He was at his dad's house for three nights while on days at work in Luton. She's living with two other people who could be going out and about anywhere. A few weeks ago, she arrived and the next day her daughter from Hitchen came to call for the day.

Today, she was here for half an hour and they're out again at the shops. They're going out every day.

That isn't a bubble. It's just sheer disregard for anyone else's safety.

You're right about the wrong rubber bullets. If it wasn't so tragic (I say this only to show care for those of a nervous nature) it would be hilarious.

It's as though anything that could be good, anything positive and life-affirming is just thrown in the gutter. I can't really comprehend why it should still upset me in this way. I know full well the species is doomed and the sooner the better.

I guess I'm just disappointed that we aren't more efficient at finishing ourselves off. Again it shows the trait of failing in me: another indication of how utterly useless we are as a species.

What we need is something a bit more dramatic akin to the whole species being wiped out at an extremely rapid pace. It's so tedious just watching it happen in what appears to be slow-motion.

For anyone planning to see in the New Year with a glass of something, enjoy! The bells always make me cry and I tend to go to bed before they ring, but for this year I may make an exception and stay up.

As someone elsewhere said, "Tonight we are ALL Oliver Reed"
Happy New year, folky-folks.

Weird, or what?

I have been occasionally checking the vaccine queue calculator website www.omnicalculator.com/health/vaccine-queue-uk to see a rough date when I might get the Covid vaccine. Initially, when the Pfizer vaccine came out, my date was between mid-April and mid-May. Last week, that slipped to early to late May.Today, just a day after the Oxford vaccine was approved - which in theory should speed up the rate of vaccinations - my date has slipped right back to mid September - mid October.

I know the calculator won't be hugely accurate, but such a change in the circumstances seems very odd......And a bit depressing. Sad

Belledujour here. I’ve been onto TES more than once and been fed the same bollocks about servers and maintenance. I’ve been back to them saying taking it down with no notice at Christmas is very poor, and the least they could have done is left it and posted a message when someone tries to access community. But no reply. The whole thing stinks! Happy new year everyone xx
