You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

It's brilliant that they're standing together. And even the Church of England Education Office!

MsAwesomeReindeer · 18/12/2020 16:29

@DecemberStar

Am sure I read somewhere definitive that it was both nostrils?

PUAUS have found at least one school - in Cumbria iirc - that's refusing to do it. The comments from parents on their Fb page weren't great though.

I know that school. The letter they're taking as a "no thanks" was written and sent on Monday, and was about the pilot scheme they were invited to be part of, so before the announcement was made. Staff there have been working frantically today to try and make it work now that it's official policy.

Well done to each and every one of you getting through this year. I don’t know how we have done it but I’m glad it’s over. Wine Gin Xmas Smile

BreadSaucery · 18/12/2020 16:32

How are you feeling, starry?

RigaBalsam · 18/12/2020 16:34

We made it!!!

Well done all! I have ordered some cocktails. Expensive but it's a treat.

Love the joint union thing. Hope something happens. You could not write it!

DollyMixtureLulus · 18/12/2020 16:36

Happy holidays to you all Gin Gin Gin

My isolation ends tomorrow, thank God. I am so looking forward to a walk.

TheHoneyBadger · 18/12/2020 16:37

Good letter though not sure it goes far enough. Someone needs to state minimum amount of working days notice schools (and parents) have to be given for major operational changes ordered by dfe.

Well done everyone. Waiting nervously for our test results here. Have filled in an attendance form for ds for a critical worker place for my contracted days. Done with leaving him at home on his PS4 whilst I go to work to educate other people's children. He can go and do his remote learning in school while I'm at work.

DecemberStar · 18/12/2020 16:47

Thanks ever so for the cocktails Riga!!

DreamingofBrie · 18/12/2020 16:47

Have sent dh to the chippy on his way home and the dc have had a proper pyjama day. Been spending the day compiling Y7 resources for next term, albeit very much hindered by Mumsnet Grin. Congratulations on making it this far everyone, and solidarity with those of you who still have teaching next week Gin.

starrynight19 · 18/12/2020 16:49

@BreadSaucery aww thanks for asking it’s been a rough few weeks tbh. Had a brief stay in hospital , then ended up with laryngitis this week , all connected to covid. But am feeling much better as the weeks gone on. Have been back in work and it’s been wonderful to be back out again.

Am just so aghast at the announcements and the expectations on all of you secondary colleagues next term.

It also doesn’t mention the replacement of self-isolation with turning up to school anyway.

So, if a child tests positive, not only will their close contacts be pitching up to school every day, their siblings will be too. Spreading it nicely across all other year groups!

BreadSaucery · 18/12/2020 16:51

Blimey, starry, take it good and easy this holiday!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 18/12/2020 16:54

In at 8am? Who is doing childcare until school starts?

SmileEachDay · 18/12/2020 17:03

Cheers all. Boychild has requested takeaway got dinner.

I’d be a terrible mother to deny him, right?

Danglingmod · 18/12/2020 17:08

Surely the siblings would stay at home? They are close, close contacts!! Parents won't be going to work, too?!?!

Achristmaspudsskidu · 18/12/2020 17:10

I’m sure I read something in the gov guidance earlier saying siblings can still go to school as they can access the daily tests.
Danglingmod · 18/12/2020 17:11

That are only 50% accurate and you might still develop Covid later?

What a crock of shite.

SmileEachDay · 18/12/2020 17:11

oh starry! You’ve had a rotten time :(

I’m glad you’re on the mend. Are you up to a gin fizz?

Piggyinblankets · 18/12/2020 17:14

NAS :

Schools will need to ensure that arrangements for the provision of remote learning to those pupils not on site continue to reflect the NASUWT’s advice Arrangements for Remote Teaching and Learning. In particular, it will be important to ensure that the demands placed on teachers in respect of the provision of on-site and remote learning are manageable. Specific attention will need to be given to the challenges teachers will face in providing both forms of learning during the same week. For this reason, it is likely to be more manageable for teachers and school leaders to focus on the provision of non-live forms of remote learning for those pupils not in attendance on school sites and to limit the use of livestreaming or other forms of synchronous remote learning. It should be recognised that there is no official expectation that remote learning must be delivered live. The resources and materials produced by the Oak National Academy have been designed to support non-live forms of remote learning and may be particularly helpful in supporting remote provision during the first week of the school term.

SmileEachDay · 18/12/2020 17:19

Ooh do you have a link to the document that is from Piggy?

This is where I read it-it was someone on Twitter watching and summarising the Q+As on the 1pm Government test video training.

Piggyinblankets · 18/12/2020 17:25

Why does this site ned to be indoors when so many are outdoors??

FiggyPuddingFiend · 18/12/2020 17:26

Allowing siblings of a positive case in school is ridiculous. It's likely to spread it to additional bubbles. Also those children probably will then meet up with friends at the weekend when they won't be being tested, as they were negative on Friday.
