You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

@RuleWithAWoodenFoot I’d employ you for our house renovations!

Also didn’t want to miss out of festive name changes 🤣

MrsChristmasHamlet · 15/12/2020 21:47

What's the pirate game?

MrsHercYulePoirot · 15/12/2020 21:48

What is the pirate game? I played keep talking or everybody explodes with my FM class today 🤣🤣🤣

OnehorseopenBobsleigh · 15/12/2020 21:48

We're doing online learning for the last week (burst bubble, not policy). It's hard to do the fun stuff online - you can't watch a film or do a word search, so they're doing more than they would be at school. The few who are actually bothering, that is.

MrsChristmasHamlet · 15/12/2020 21:48

What are these games I know nothing about??? I feel left out. Sob.

GleamingBaubles · 15/12/2020 21:48

I'm going to be showing David Attenborough or Operation Ouch/Brainiac depending on the class .... Educational innit? Grin

FiggyPuddingified · 15/12/2020 21:49

@MrsChristmasHamlet

figgyfiend?
I've taken inspiration, hopefully this works...
HarrietDVane · 15/12/2020 21:52

Eek! I’ll take the SLT mandated ‘covid-friendly activities’ over banned fun! Apparently, though, they expect us to go back on timetable Thursday and Friday... There is not a chance in hades that I will teach to timetable on Friday afternoon or Thursday afternoon.

Festive names are hard! You’re all too good at this. I’ve got nothing.

Piggyinblankets · 15/12/2020 21:53

I may attempt some light Homes Under the Hammer watching whilst teaching the three year 11s who log in...

Soooo many name changes!!

I’m always telling kids there’s money to be made in being a female plumber

I come from a family of electricians. I'd like to be a carpenter. I do all that stuff at home - skirtings, shelving, I can do build in wardrobes - I love a major Ikea hack. That would be what I did if I gave up teaching. My problem is I'd have to be a joiner rather than a chippy - I couldn't do roof joists as I'm not strong enough.

Oooh I'd like to do that. My degree had a surprising amount of joinery in it (it was the 90s when it was alllllll about installations.)

Thinking about it, I'd hire a female joiner over a male. Not sure why; I'd feel they understand what I'm asking for more, when describing a specific way for a shelf to be...

This is the Pirate Game www.tes.com/teaching-resource/the-pirate-game-end-of-term-activity-6258063

Christmas version:
www.tes.com/teaching-resource/the-christmas-game-6454282

It’s a fantastic game but quite hard to justify as educational (maths = coordinates and adding cash is a bit of a stretch).

NeurotreeWenceslas · 15/12/2020 21:55

Sorry,

NeurotreeWenceslas · 15/12/2020 21:56

My poor kids are getting proper ish lessons tomorrow as I panic try to get everything finished!

GleamingBaubles · 15/12/2020 21:57

Is that a bit like battleships?

GleamingBaubles · 15/12/2020 22:00

I'm using Christmas "fun" as a carrot to complete a certain amount of work. But bottom set P5 Thursday - as long as they sit still and quiet in their seats I don't actually care what they do as that will be a win... I'm thinking of a bit of operation ouch, a quiz, and maybe the science of fairy lights if I think they can cope...

noelgiraffe · 15/12/2020 22:02

Like a battleship grid. They fill their grids with cash amounts and various actions and then the teacher stands at the front and picks squares. If it’s cash, they earn money, if it’s an action they can put their hand up, steal another kid’s money, swap money with them, give a gift, bomb a whole group of kids so they all lose their money etc.

Person with the most money at the end is the winner. It’s always a quiet kid who keeps their head down while the others rob each other!

DecemberStar · 15/12/2020 22:06

We are all sooo Christmassy here!!! 🎉 🎄

Avocaat anyone? 🍷 GinXmas Confused

Love you all (hic!)

Hercwasonasnowball · 15/12/2020 22:15

This is about as christmassy as I'm getting this year #grinch

ChloeDeckTheHalls · 15/12/2020 22:20

Cheers DecemberStar-I’m on my third glass in the Staffroom already. We can leave the washing up till the morning! Xmas GrinStarWine

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 15/12/2020 22:21

I might put the tree up tomorrow. Maybe. That’s going to be as Christmassy as it gets.

Sounds like chaos so I'm definitely doing that with Year Six on Friday.
RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 15/12/2020 22:27

I played the 'Pirate Game' as a 'Harry Potter Game' during lockdown a lot - we had Potter obsessed vulnerable kids.

OytheBumbler · 15/12/2020 22:29

Ah you see in Primary it is ESSENTIAL that children spend this week doing Christmas crafts and arsing about with glitter.

Tbh it's nice and normal and fun except for the fact it's Christmas next week and they'll all be mixing with vulnerable GP's and families.

Aww. We've decorated all our rooms and it feels quite festive at school. The tree even has presents under it now as I finally got round to wrapping the stuff for the class. Now, home is a completely different matter. I moved just before Covid and don't even own Christmas decorations.
eitak22 · 15/12/2020 22:30

Our HT who normally only allows chrostmas lunch as the fun before Christmas and makes us continue with real lessons has encouraged us to make decorations, have a crafts afternoon and I think wanted us to do a party (last 2 we said no to as cohort cant cope).

I am not festive and am done, another tough behaviour day and honestly I just feel bitter that I'm having to put myself at risk for children who dont have any respect.
