You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

I'm off today as I've taken the full week to cope with the loss of my lovely mil. I'm starting to be more busy and productive just in general so I do feel I'll be ready to go back on Monday.

MrsHerculePoirot · 10/12/2020 11:38

@DrMadelineMaxwell glad you took the time you needed. Remember though it will still hit you in waves so if you need more time now and again take it.

@starrynight19 under no circumstance leave.

If someone is bothered enough to retrospectively report, well essentially nothing, then frankly I feel sorry for them. I mean I don’t know why everyone can’t just live by ‘don’t be a dick’ rule tbh. Would save a lot of angst in life in general I think.

noblegiraffe · 10/12/2020 16:31

Welsh secondary schools going online from Monday for Christmas. Suspect they have an inkling that there’s covid spread there.

Cantaloupeisland · 10/12/2020 16:33

Welsh secondaries going to remote learning next week. Why oh why can't England do this - already had about twenty parents today saying they're pulling their kids out next week. Attendance will be non existent!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 10/12/2020 16:34

Today the first child in my class has gone off to give a 2 week 'isolation' period.

noblegiraffe · 10/12/2020 16:37

Why oh why can't England do this

Because they cannot possibly do anything that might admit there’s a covid risk in schools.

Cantaloupeisland · 10/12/2020 16:39

I just hope that when parents lie about why their kids are not in they say they're isolating rather than just ill so it doesn't bugger up our attendance so much! I can sense a lot of 5 days of cold, headache etc coming on

Cantaloupeisland · 10/12/2020 16:40

@noblegiraffe of course, so they can say look we kept schools open, even if there's nobody left in them! Hmm

Piggywaspushed · 10/12/2020 17:13

Anyone listening to Hancock???

SaltyAF · 10/12/2020 17:13

Wales have shot us all in the foot (I live here, teach on England). Locally all Y11s have had a grand total of 8 weeks in school since September. It makes us all look bad.

RigaBalsam · 10/12/2020 17:14

@Piggywaspushed

Anyone listening to Hancock???
Its London so they have to act. Not when it's the North East though! At least they finally admitted it though!
mumsneedwine · 10/12/2020 17:15

Think Hancock has just admitted that schools are source of transmission!

monkeytennis97 · 10/12/2020 17:16

I'm listening. Hope lots of parents will pull them out next week....

Everything she said.

Wow! Really?? Shock
mumsneedwine · 10/12/2020 17:22

@WhyNotMe40 well they will be testing all 11-18 year olds in London, Essex and Kent from next week. Can only think of one place they all gather 😂

PumpkinPie2016 · 10/12/2020 17:23

Quite a few kids at my school have announced they aren't coming in next week. Goodness knows what attendance will be like Xmas Confused

I've had a nice day today. 3 lovely lessons (although one of my Y11s did ask why we weren't watching a film! Erm... because I have bloody loads of content to get through!).

Went shopping after work and it was nice and quiet- mostly got DS Christmas presents now and a few for other people so that's good. Got a few orders coming from Amazon and the Works - they will arrive in the next few days and then I'm pretty much done.

monkeytennis97 · 10/12/2020 17:29

BBC news alert now. Finally they are admitting it. Fucking finally.

Piggywaspushed · 10/12/2020 17:31

RIGHT, so Hancock has just admitted teenagers are key drivers of transmission.

Funny that.

Moral victory to the teachers of MN and a giant fuck off and an I TOLD YOU SO to those teacher bashers.

pussycatinboots · 10/12/2020 17:32

@Piggywaspushed

Anyone listening to Hancock???
He's been on for half an hour Xmas Wink

Finally. He's kind of semi admitting that possibly there might maybe be a teensy little bit of a link between Schools and the spread of Covid. Possibly.🤦🏻‍♀️

Ah it will be all that walking to and from school that does it though. Not schools Hmm
RubyViolet · 10/12/2020 17:34

Cats out of the bag now. Covid is rampant in South London secondaries.
Several friends kids sick as dogs, then it spreads through the whole family.
Still no talk of testing Teachers though. Teachers are Teflon coated obviously.

Piggywaspushed · 10/12/2020 17:34

LOL pussycat Grin

DrMadelineMaxwell · 10/12/2020 17:35

It's all go here in Wales.
News is reporting that ALL secondaries are going online learning for next week.
Our neighbouring authority in N Wales (Wrexham) has announced that primaries are also shutting on Wed next week - which allows the clear 10 days that you'd have to self isolate for to be over by Christmas day. Very sensible.
I imagine that means our authority will dig in it's heels (despite having as poor an infection rate as Wrexham) and make us work til the end of the week.

If there are a lot of parents choosing to not send their kids next week, so be it. Every child less in my class is one infection vector less to worry about!
