You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

? Where was that happening? And who is reporting? Big brother watching again? (And I don't mean HQ)

noblegiraffe · 09/12/2020 19:46

Big Brother is always watching.

They have literally nothing better to do.

CallmeAngelina · 09/12/2020 19:50

I have scrolled back and I can't see any discussion of other threads - not for the last day or two, unless I've missed something.

Flagsfiend · 09/12/2020 19:54

I can't either, we are discussing the same content as some other threads - the stupid government move your inset day announcement and vaccines - but I scrolled back and couldn't see a reference to an actual thread.

RigaBalsam · 09/12/2020 19:57

Well said Piggy!

ThrawnCow · 09/12/2020 19:58

No posts about other threads. Feel like we're being gaslit.

Piggywaspushed · 09/12/2020 20:02

I shall not name it (as am very obedient), but there is a renowned thread over in chat which constantly chats about what the fuckwits on the 'rona board are whinging about. Perhaps have a look there lest it looks like we are being singled out. Smile

noblegiraffe · 09/12/2020 20:07

Three posts deleted on this thread, from Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

It would appear that someone has trawled back through old posts and reported to @LilyMumsnet who has now told us off for something and we don't have the faintest idea what.

Probably reported by the same person who was starting all those teacher-bashing threads.

Piggywaspushed · 09/12/2020 20:14

Hmm...

www.mumsnet.com/info/netiquette

Nope. Can't actually see the problem, to be fair.

Hercwasonaroll · 09/12/2020 20:22

I don't remember any posts about other threads.... Was it the Aragog thing? (I do hope she's OK)

Gladly no inset here yet.

CallmeAngelina · 09/12/2020 20:23

We see you!

Appuskidu · 09/12/2020 20:23

Wow, Big Brother really is everywhere!

noblegiraffe · 09/12/2020 20:26

There's a difference between a lurker and a stalker.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 09/12/2020 20:31

I must admit, in terms of windows open, I'm opening and closing mine rather than having them completely open all the time.

My classroom is small and there are rows that sit right up against the window. The radiator is directly underneath, so the poor buggers are alternatively freezing then boiling. I took note of something earlier in the year (that modelling of the various scenarios I think) and took on board that venting the classroom frequently was good if you couldn't always have windows open so they are open before the kids come in, during break, lunch, daily mile and on and off in class as temp allows.

This will be outing, but I have trigeminal neuralgia and it has two guaranteed triggers. One is exercise (oh joy when trying to be healthier causes me pain) and one is getting too cold. So I'm not sitting in an ice box!

Danglingmod · 09/12/2020 20:32

I think in primary, that's probably adequate. In secondary, as it's a fresh group of 30 breathers every hour, it doesn't feel safe to ever close the windows?

Hercwasonaroll · 09/12/2020 20:35

The windows thing is so interesting. Our school has no opening windows. Anecdotally out cases don't seem any higher than local schools with windows permanently open.

We do have a ventilation system but it's not as good as air exchange as windows. It's therefore not as cold.

noblegiraffe · 09/12/2020 20:35

Can't open the windows at lesson changeover because I've got another lesson to be getting to. It's hard enough logging off and remembering to bring everything with me!

Besides, lesson changeover is when the kids try to shut the windows.

Danglingmod · 09/12/2020 20:37

Exactly.

We're not moving around but there's no time to open windows and shut them again and certainly not without getting 1cm close to the kids. Fully open here (when I say fully, they open to 6cm roughly).

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 09/12/2020 20:44

We are doing the INSET. Not sure whether in school or at home. If the training is anything more complicated than managing to remember by own name, I think I'll struggle to follow it.

I have all my windows open as my TA is CV. She sits by the windows. I just want to try to keep her safe.

CallmeAngelina · 09/12/2020 20:59

I'm feeling very twitchy and snappy at the moment. Our Head is keen that we provide as many (adapted) Christmas activities going as we can, which is all very nice, but it ratchets up the stress as it's all busy-busy-busy (more so than usual) and the kids are getting more and more hyper. The busier we are, the easier it is to miss something on the safety front for speed, e.g. too many people crowding in the cloakroom when you're running late. And some of them need help with craft activities, which means we may need to go closer more often than otherwise in order to help. Or other children help, which pushes the noise higher - along with my anxiety levels.

SaltyAF · 09/12/2020 21:02

So sick of seeing posts pontificating about whether to take kids out to protect Christmas plans. I really don't give a shiny shit about other people's Christmases given that we can't spend it with family.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 09/12/2020 21:05

Anyone else resisting the 'chocolate for breakfast' urge yet? Always the last week of term for me, but I've been having to go for heavy resistance all week so far... temptation is strong!

plasticboxesrock · 09/12/2020 21:06

Well said Piggy.
I wouldn't dream of going on any of the other "specific group not clique" threads for a certain group of people to talk about their certain thing then asking MNHQ to take down a post which referenced another thread obliquely - not starting a thread about that group - and I am sure no-one on here would either. Nobody on this thread is saying "head over to x thread and see what y stupid poster is saying". We are here to provide mutual support to one another at a very difficult time and we are doing that sensibly without recourse to name-calling.

For heavens' sake, we are teachers and TAs, we need an outlet for all the shite that the govt is throwing our way. Having been the victim of actual gaslighting in RL I hesitate to use the term elsewhere but it does feel exactly like that. And that is horrid.

Sending lots of love and support to you, my colleagues, this week and next as we try to get to the end of term without putting ourselves or our families in any more danger. In my classroom we always have a teacher dance when all the children have gone on a Friday and next week it's going to be "I'm still standing" - let's hope we are.

Peace and love. xxx

Augustbreeze · 09/12/2020 21:19

Well said @plasticboxesrock. Yes there are lots of other potentially cliquey threads who at times reference other threads..... No it doesn't seem very fair. To be honest, I think we have, at times, said 'head over to this thread and see what X is saying' though. I think we just need to use more general terms.

Do you actually dance? Grin.

Augustbreeze · 09/12/2020 21:25

Also there is the point (whispers here) that the whole stated purpose of these threads is to support school staff dealing with the stuff on other threads......

And that nowhere in the Guidelines does it seem to mention TAATs or single post mentions of other threads. @LilyMumsnet ?
