You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Inset here but remotely

monkeytennis97 · 09/12/2020 14:44

Not that it matters to me as have Fridays off😊

oddsbodkins · 09/12/2020 14:49

Our head has just emailed - we're closed next Friday (18th) for an INSET day. Bet that goes down well with our parents!

TheHoneyBadger · 09/12/2020 14:59

We remain open otherwise we'd have to use March inset day for teaching and do the inset over a load more twilights as it wouldn't be ready by Friday.

I'm just sat waiting for kids to disperse so I can walk home in peace

Piggywaspushed · 09/12/2020 15:00

We are not rejigging training days (even though we could! We have one after school today FFS!) of opening early after Easter . The last day will now be a teaching day but online. All staff to WFH but lessons must be taught. No quizzes, no fun. And no 'independent work'

No assembly...just so longs as our esteemed head doesn't have to do anything hey.

TheHoneyBadger · 09/12/2020 15:35

My colleague and I just had a very satisfying little swearfest. She's fed up of the way hod speaks to people whereas I had the hod from hell previously so don't let this one bother me and effortlessly bat back her responsibilities that she tries to palm off onto others.

Super organised and ahead on my stuff and happily make resources and rejig lessons that don't work and share all with colleagues but no I won't be setting cover for people on maternity leave even though you've dressed it up as some kind of blessing dear. She's an amateur compared to the last one. Kudos for trying but nope that extra money and 14 frees a fortnight you get makes that very much your job.

A colleague who I think of as unflappable looked stressed, exhausted and utterly fed up today which tells me it has definitely all gotten too much now. Gave her lots of big ups and check ins. When the likes of her are wobbling it's well past the canary in the mine stage itms.

@SaltyAF

Also just discovered a friend who works in SS (not a SW) is being vaxed this month. Can't believe we're nowhere on the priority list.
I’m very happy for them obviously but it is just another sign that teachers are treated like cannon fodder and school children as a consequence of that, even more so.
Frlrlrubert · 09/12/2020 16:14

We're now doing inset next Friday which will be 'curriculum review and planning'. Not sure if it's from home or in school (or last inset was all
day pointlessly in school, the one before that was 'come in for appraisal and this one meeting and go home otherwise').

OytheBumbler · 09/12/2020 16:42

We're staying open next Friday too.

phlebasconsidered · 09/12/2020 16:47

We are staying open. I knew we would.

Plus i've just heard on the radio that people with prior allergic reactions to vaccines are being told not to have it as some nurses have had bad reactions. So even if we are offered it at the bottom of the pile I can't have it. Poop.

Medra · 09/12/2020 16:59

We’re not closing. I didn’t think we would.

Flagsfiend · 09/12/2020 17:13

We are staying open, our head seemed annoyed with the government and media and explained to us why we wouldn't be closing - basically our options for swapping the inset are problematic. He kept stressing how the media are portraying it incorrectly as it isn't an extra inset or day off. I'm relieved to be in, need to teach my y13.

Keepdistance · 09/12/2020 17:14

Have you got epi pen?
Ive got lots of allergies but mine are mild luckily. Not that it matters as im in 40s

Do we really think footballers wont be getting it? So they dont get covid and miss matches...

Id be interested to see stats on hcp under 40 uptake (as at the moment it's not shown to prevent spread). Im interested in how many are worried about themselves catching it, in relation to the general public not being offered it for those ages. As we are being told it's such low risk to that age group. As long term if unvax all under 40 would catch it.

ChloeDecker · 09/12/2020 17:55

The government really don’t understand what an INSET is don’t they? Probably explains why we get so many posts on Mumsnet complaining about them-not understanding what they are.

RigaBalsam · 09/12/2020 18:23

Not happening here either. My nephews primary school is closing though.

RigaBalsam · 09/12/2020 18:26

Ugh! Why do I look at the abomination that is the sun!
Whinging teachers! Makes me so angry. Come and observe for a day and see how it is!!!

RigaBalsam · 09/12/2020 18:41

I liked what Merkel said today.

The usually calm and collected Merkel then became increasingly furious in tone, even visibly shaking, as she stabbed the air, saying the current number of deaths was “unacceptable”.
And whilst measures like keeping distance and wearing masks might seem “inhuman”, they are, she added: “Not something which is going to destroy our lives.” She said that much as it pained her, in order to save lives she said she saw little alternative than to reduce all contacts as much as possible even during the Christmas period, and proposed an earlier break for Christmas followed by a tight shutdown into the new year, which would involve the closure of schools, workplaces and non-essential shops.

Piggywaspushed · 09/12/2020 18:46

So DH's school closed to al pupils. Today staff have been told to WFH. Three more staff cases since yesterday.

But-hey - covid doesn't spread in schools!

DollyMixtureLulus · 09/12/2020 19:02

Another class has gone in my school. Think we're on a slippery slope now.

One child did their assigned online learning Xmas Confused

ChloeDecker · 09/12/2020 19:09

A colleague in my dept has just Whats zapped me to say they have tested positive. Their symptoms are much worse than mine-achy muscles, shivering, incessant cough and fatigue. I really feel for them. It’s really tough xx

Augustbreeze · 09/12/2020 19:18

Just been in Fb convo with our local Pre School manager, think she may not be happy as the primary they're next door to have decided to take up the govt offer of next Friday WFH. Puts her in a difficult position I guess. Such a stupid govt announcement (OK one among many)

Mistressiggi · 09/12/2020 19:19

@phlebasconsidered

We are staying open. I knew we would.

Plus i've just heard on the radio that people with prior allergic reactions to vaccines are being told not to have it as some nurses have had bad reactions. So even if we are offered it at the bottom of the pile I can't have it. Poop.

Hopefully that will just apply to this vaccine rather than the other ones they are getting hold of.
Flagsfiend · 09/12/2020 19:23

From what I've read the vaccine issues are potentially to do with it being RNA based, so it would also apply to the moderna one. However the Oxford one uses different technology so will potentially be more suitable for people with severe allergic reactions.

LilyMumsnet · 09/12/2020 19:35

Hi folks

Please don't discuss other active threads - it will turn this into a TAAT and then we'd have to take it down.

Piggywaspushed · 09/12/2020 19:41

No, a TAAT is a thread started to discuss other threads MNHQ.

Perhaps sort out the incessant misinformation and Teacher Bashing on other threads. TIA.

Besides which in at least the last 20 posts I cannot see any reference to any other thread Hmm
