You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

name last year teachers passed and became NQTs having missed the majority of their second placement.

Disruption will be taken into account. You will pass.

SmileEachDay · 08/11/2020 18:55

name

Do not worry about your folder. Honestly - it is always possible to find the evidence. If you're stuck nearer the end of term I'm very happy to help suggest the kind of evidence you might need to find. Sometimes it's just about thinking a bit creatively.

Nellodee · 08/11/2020 20:24

Remember, unless you are a safeguarding mess, always absent, or actively unteaching your students, everyone wants you to pass.

starrynight19 · 08/11/2020 20:26

Just checking back in. Hope everyone is doing ok. Piggy hope your not too sore.
monkey great to hear about ds being negative.

Dp has had a rough few days it’s a real worry. And dd is getting so worked up about missing all her mock revisions I don’t know what to do to help her. Have told her if it’s a big disaster this year it isn’t her fault and we can just do it all again. Her mental health is at rock bottom.
I actually started a thread to see how many dc have had to isolate and in which areas. It’s interesting.
I have applied to be part of a focus group for parents with children in year 11/13 organised by the dfe with regards to next years exams.

MrsHamlet · 08/11/2020 20:36

I've marked 238 individual "items" of my year 11 mocks - just 32 writing sections either about a market or being abandoned to go. Sigh.
And the y10 essays.
And I've just had a massive coughing fit caused by inhaling aperol spritz instead of swapping it.

Exactly this.

I’m doing the dark night/a game that went wrong.

And the y10 essays

Yup
.

That’s a symptom. Off to bed for a fortnight, go on!

Ps. I love Aperol Spritz

MrsHamlet · 08/11/2020 20:47

I don't like paper one. The stories are so often utterly shite. At least on paper 2 there's no option for bloody zombies.
I need a fortnight off when the live marking starts 🤣

SmileEachDay · 08/11/2020 20:50

Yeah but with Paper 2 there’s stupid, stupid question 2 and daft question 4.

WhyNotMe40 · 08/11/2020 20:50

I've done bugger all work this weekend. I'm sure I will regret it tomorrow but I just couldn't muster up the energy. So kudos and well done to all of you who have.
I feel depressed. Genuinely. I'm already on anti depressants for anxiety. Everything is an effort. I've eaten crap, let the kids have endless screen time (although DH could have stepped up if her could be bothered), and drunk too much alcohol Friday and Saturday night.
And now I'm being grumpy with people on AIBU. I have no idea why I am bothering.

SmileEachDay · 08/11/2020 20:52

What would help, Why?

MrsHamlet · 08/11/2020 20:53

I don't mind q2... they're at least quick to mark. Whereas paper 1 q3 ... the structure doesn't bloody interest the reader!
Why do I keep signing marking contracts??

WhyNotMe40 · 08/11/2020 20:57

@SmileEachDay

Thanks for asking. Some time to myself without my own kids or other people's kids probably. Not having my own kids squabble.so much - they are missing their clubs and activities and it shows! I was supposed to be part time but have stepped up due to staff illness, which does not seem to be decreasing for obvious reasons! And we sort of need the money as DH's job is under threat of redundancy, and he's not been there that long.
SmileEachDay · 08/11/2020 20:58

Question 2 is just stupid - it doesn’t teach anything valuable because it mixes summary and inference skills. It’s annoying.

qu 3/paper 1 on the other hand is VERY useful as long as you train the kids to steal the ideas - it stops the zombie/car chase endless and then this happened and then this happened and then the examiner chewed her arm off.

SmileEachDay · 08/11/2020 20:59

Some time to myself without my own kids or other people's kids probably

Is that possible? How old are your kids?

WhyNotMe40 · 08/11/2020 21:02

Kids are 4, 7 and 9.
Have no family help, especially at the moment. DH... Well, he seems to be able to come and go as he wants.... And no, I can't talk to him.

CallmeAngelina · 08/11/2020 21:04

Sorry if this has been discussed a gazillion times already, but if we are off work looking after a small child who has been told to isolate due to a case in their school, is it unpaid leave?

MsAwesomeDragon · 08/11/2020 21:05

I have done bugger all work this weekend as well. I will definitely regret that during the week when I'm marking late into the night, but I did like not doing it over the weekend. I read a book, went out for walks (I play a game like Pokemon go, but not), went food shopping. But no school work, and no housework other than laundry and shopping. House is a complete tip, but nobody's allowed in to see it anyway.

WhyNotMe40 · 08/11/2020 21:06

We've been sent "the rules" which say 2 days paid, rest unpaid.

SmileEachDay · 08/11/2020 21:07

Oh Why that’s so tough. I hear you.

I guess it’s just getting through right now. Its over whelming and shit.

SmileEachDay · 08/11/2020 21:08

*It’s 🙄

I suppose that's one upside of the current rules Grin noone can judge the house! Grin

Smile thanks. Appreciated Flowers

MrsHamlet · 08/11/2020 21:09

I like to differentiate between "worthwhile" and "easy to mark" 😂

marplemead · 08/11/2020 21:10

@CallmeAngelina depends on your school. Some schools will have increased paid leave for childcare. At ours the allowance is the same, and you can choose to use it for situations like this, or take unpaid leave. I think the unions need to look into this, as it is discriminatory for single parents, and doesn't take into account limited alternative childcare options due to covid.

SmileEachDay · 08/11/2020 21:11

Hell yes!
