You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

I meant straining but I could probably drain it

PumpkinPie2016 · 06/11/2020 17:06

@MsAwesomeDragon gosh that sounds like a really tough day Flowers try to have a relaxing night tonight.

I managed to set work for all my students who are self isolating. Think I need a spreadsheet to keep track of it all!

Had some nice lessons today which was good - makes it worthwhile.

CallmeAngelina · 06/11/2020 17:20

I was stupid this week and planned a really teacher-Input-heavy day for today. A Friday!! Been doing this job for long enough to know that this is not sensible.
Have collapsed with exhaustion on the sofa. Dh has been sent to get find and tonics prepped.

Piggywaspushed · 06/11/2020 17:31

Well, I fell up some stairs after school : hurt knee, wrist, thighs, mouth , shoulder and back Sad

Piggywaspushed · 06/11/2020 17:31

And dignity.

Piggywaspushed · 06/11/2020 17:32

That ONS data is being discussed on the data thread. It literally makes no sense.

Ouch! Are you ok?

No I am not sure I understand it either.

MsAwesomeDragon · 06/11/2020 17:38

If I drank I would take you up on the fake Bailey's honey. Unfortunately, I don't drink. My normal vice is chocolate, and if ever I had a bad day I'd have been straight to the shop on my way home and I'd have already eaten a family size bar of chocolate and a share bag of crisps by the time I got home. But I'm terrified of doing that now, because it would increase my risk from covid due to being fat and diabetic already. I'm low carbing to get my sugars down, so I can't have chocolate, or crisps, or any of my usual "bad day remedies". I don't actually know what to do with myself right now. I can't even switch off and watch some TV because dh is working in the living room, and dd is in there too so I wouldn't be able to watch anything higher than a pg. What a crap day!!!

I'm sure I'll feel better tomorrow, after a decent dinner and a good night's sleep. But right now I think I'm just going to wallow in self pity and hope that the safeguarding lead has done what she needs to do about those kids (she will have done, she's usually right on it). They are the biggest worry for me right now.

PumpkinPie2016 · 06/11/2020 17:43

@Piggywaspushed ouch!Sad

Cake for you.

GravityFalls · 06/11/2020 17:43

I’m on the fake Bailey’s too! A generous slug of Lidl Deluxe from last year in my coffee (the bottle hadn’t been opened, but I’d drink it even if it had).

www.tes.com/news/revealed-rate-positive-covid-tests-among-teachers

TES trying to make sense of it...

Piggywaspushed · 06/11/2020 17:45

I am in much pain and it is annoying because I suffer from back and neck pain and this will probably set me back. Again.

RigaBalsam · 06/11/2020 17:47

It shows that since the start of the school year there is “no evidence of difference in the positivity rate between teachers and other key workers”.
But the ONS analysis also indicates that secondary teachers have a similar level of risk to frontline healthcare workers.

My mate just flippantly text me. I may as well work on a covid ward.

That sounds really sore piggy. I hope you feel better soon Flowers

MistressIggi · 06/11/2020 17:50

Ooo, ouch 🤕

RobertsUncle · 06/11/2020 17:51

Ooh Piggy, sounds painful. Put your feet up!

Saucery · 06/11/2020 17:59

Ow, Piggy! Falling upstairs always seems more embarrassing than falling downstairs.

noblegiraffe · 06/11/2020 18:00

From TES: "based on nose and throat swabs in England, from 2 September to 16 October."

At which point the infection rate in secondary schools nearly doubled. So if we were at 'frontline healthcare worker' rates then, what would we be like now?

Flowers to those who have had a shit day/week.

My week has been ok but I'm genuinely not sure if that's because it has actually been ok or because I'm so worn out with it all that it's just not registering anymore. Trump might win? Oh dear. National lockdown? Righty-ho. Another positive case in my class? Whatevs.

PumpkinPie2016 · 06/11/2020 18:07

Hmm, myabe there is an element of that @noblegiraffe.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 06/11/2020 18:12

This week I bought two packs of penguin biscuits to share at school. I didn't share. Oops!

RigaBalsam · 06/11/2020 18:14

Our payrise went through so at least I have a little positive. Not sure about the scaled appraisal rise though.

mumsneedwine · 06/11/2020 18:16

@noblegiraffe that sums me up. I just can't get bothered by anything. Student threw a tantrum today as he was so cold (so was I !). I stood silently and ignored him so he stormed out of class. Apparently I just sighed, called SLT and TA said I looked eerily calm. Class didn't speak for rest of lesson. Maybe I've hit upon a new technique. Wine poured.
