You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

I've been off the thread for a couple of days, hope everyone is ok? Hoping that ohthegoats can return and sending best wishes to starrynight, monkeytennis and everyone else who is having a hard time.

We've now got 3 members of staff tested positive. I can't help feeling "unprioritised" as a staff member. Just feels as if more and more responsibility is being piled on every week, without even an acknowledgement from SLT. Enjoying seeing the pupils but I feel so worn down by it all.

Hercwasonaroll · 05/11/2020 19:58

And the CAG merry g round begins.

Without being too outing we've been asked to write mocks that students can have the "best opportunity to showcase" themselves. A mockery is what they will be.

MrsHamlet · 05/11/2020 19:59

My year 11 mocks are a shitshow. I shouted at them today. But at least they're real papers (we just set laughable grade boundaries)

MsAwesomeDragon · 05/11/2020 20:05

Our maths mocks will be real papers with the real grade boundaries. I don't know what other subjects are doing, but I suspect that maths will look worse than at least a few other subjects, we always do in the mocks. Then we amazingly get the best results in the summer (not really very much higher than English, but we do beat them every year 😃)

SansaSnark · 05/11/2020 20:18

I think we must be the only school in the country not doing autumn mocks! Our plan is to run mocks as we normally do in February.

Really cannot be arsed with learning walks next week- it just seems ridiculously unfair, given the circumstances.

RigaBalsam · 05/11/2020 20:19

I have listened to the James OB show at least he understands how worried we are and there are others out there feeling the same and the TAs.

NeurotrashWarrior · 05/11/2020 20:19

Hello all, busy bit good week.

I've just seen a post on Brtus fb about a form tutor telling the children that "Covid is a conspiracy, isn't harmful, only kills old people who would be likely to die of flu anyway etc."

Extremely shocked that a teacher is saying such stuff.

Hercwasonaroll · 05/11/2020 20:19

I'm just fuming to be asked to write a paper to fudge kids grades on. This is why CAGs are unfair.

RigaBalsam · 05/11/2020 20:20

Ours in Feb too. Changed from December.
MrsHamlet · 05/11/2020 20:22

We always do assessments at funny times - and we always use real papers. But our mock grades are always stupidly high because we want our data to look good. It crazy.

NeurotrashWarrior · 05/11/2020 20:25

Very behind on the thread.

Has Oh be banned?!

I've been concerned about a very mild cold that started on Tuesday or Monday (?) that's now slowly and clearly going to my chest over today. It feels a little phlemy but with asthma you can never really tell as any inflammation kicks it off. The inhalers are so good though I sort of can't tell?!
I think I'm going to have to get a test tomorrow.

Augustbreeze · 05/11/2020 20:29

Hope it fizzles out quickly and that you're OK @NeurotrashWarrior !

NeurotrashWarrior · 05/11/2020 20:41

Thanks, I feel absolutely fine. Lots of energy. Just would hate to be the super spreader!

I've dithered a bit in tbe mornings. But I cough my way through all colds with my asthma so would be off all the time if I got a test at every tight chest. It's v hard! I've been fine at night which is usually an indicator it's not a virus though (and bacterial. It's a bit phlemy too...!)

NeurotrashWarrior · 05/11/2020 20:45

Ds1 had an ipso mori test last week which was negative, but had also had a mild cold and been coughing. So fairly sure it's that. We've also not been anywhere near other people for well over a week!

It's just the worry that you're the infectious one that wipes out half the school that makes me worry! I've been wearing my mask more in corridors.

In other news, I overheard a member of staff reporting that a child's mother had tested positive a couple of days ago, but said child was in school Hmm

Purpleice · 05/11/2020 20:49

I had kids telling me that their parents took them to the pub last night. They’re 9.

Augustbreeze · 05/11/2020 20:52

Wow @Purpleice .

BRTUS members reporting various bits of the media, and the questions to Boris this evening, as turning against schools being open??

More on Welsh schools : 40 cases in ONE school.

starrynight19 · 05/11/2020 20:57

Thanks all , we all doing ok. Completely wiped dp out he is just sleeping all the time.
Neuro that was his first symptoms thinking it was a head cold.

That post on BRUTUS is shocking Confused

Frlrlrubert · 05/11/2020 21:00

We've moved mocks to Jan (Usually do them in Dec), to make sure we've 'caught up'.

In science we use actual past papers, and that's year's grade boundaries usually. We usually do a second round of 'class mocks' in science in March as well. Usually the kids have done so many mocks by the real thing they forget to be nervous.

Nellodee · 05/11/2020 21:16

Did anyone else's school get a letter saying ECV teachers can work from home? Or is it my SLT being incredibly amazing off their own backs?

Piggywaspushed · 05/11/2020 21:17

It's in the new guidance, nellodee.

Nellodee · 05/11/2020 21:19

Ah, I haven't actually read it this time around. About bloody time! That's brilliant.

Danglingmod · 05/11/2020 21:22

Guidance which came out after the end of the working day yesterday so our ECV staff were in school today.

NeurotrashWarrior · 05/11/2020 21:38

Oh no starry, sorry to hear you're all poorly :(

Crap, better get a test tomorrow then. Cold aspect has gone, just a tiny bit of upper chest gunk and a tickle. I'll be amazed as I actually think I've only been inside one shop for 2 weeks at the wkend before I came to school this week, as was self isolating from a bubble.

Hercwasonaroll · 05/11/2020 21:38

They don't have to WFH until Monday, virus knows to stay away til then.
