You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

What's frustrating is you know this lockdown will 'work' to a certain extent- numbers will go down due to the lack of mixing with other households, closure of bars etc. The schools are safe brigade will then start shrieking 'See! Told you it wasn't schools spreading it!' Etc....

ohthegoats · 01/11/2020 14:05

My hairdresser just called. They are working until midnight Mon - Wed. She's doing my roots tomorrow evening. Bless.

Cracklefraggle · 01/11/2020 14:06

@Piggywaspushed

Sorry, just saw crackle got there before me.

I never could resist a bit of Burnham with his puppy dog eyes and that weird thing we call integrity.

No worries piggy Must admit I wish we had Burnham instead of Rotherham at times but not for your reasons Grin

The data will show what is going on in schools, though- and I think we will see more school closures due to lack of staff again.

One MAT local to me has done a two week half term, due to staff shortages, and we are in a Tier 1 area.

I actually really think it's more likely this lockdown won't "work" properly and that will unfortunately make people less likely to comply with restrictions as it drags on and on.

flumposie · 01/11/2020 14:21

I feel totally despondent today. When I've pointed out that this isn't really a lockdown with schools etc open I've been told 'at least you have a job' . People and the government do not give a shit about us.

TheHoneyBadger · 01/11/2020 14:45

I'm still focussed on small but vital things like being able to have a wee. We have now cut out our afternoon break meaning I'll be teaching for 3 hours back to back with no movement time despite needing to move across the school for each lesson. That's fine so long as we have some system in place to allow us to go for a wee and fill our water bottles.

I can't go over 3 hours without access to a toilet. Most of the blocks I work in currently in the zone system have one staff toilet available and we are down to one 40 minute break per day (minus getting out of a lesson and having to travel to the next lesson to be early obviously so more like 30 minutes - you could queue that long to get into the one staff toilet).

Clearly being cv, having no mitigations, teaching in a pandemic lockdown etc are major issues but being able to have a wee is actually kind of important to me on a day to day basis.

Piggywaspushed · 01/11/2020 14:47

It's all projected anxiety. Just as in March and then again in August. Let it wash over you.

I just spoke to my DM on the phone. Which was nice obviously as she ahs just got out of hospital but she started telling me schools in NYC are all closed and that this is 'disgusting'. Not only am I a teacher, her niece in NYC teaches. I had to shout at her to get her to sop talking!

The later she asked me if I was still being paid!! I said 'Why wouldn't they pay me??'. I am trying to be serene and putting it down to old age.

TheHoneyBadger · 01/11/2020 14:51

Glad to hear she's doing well enough now to be able to stick the boot in piggy Grin

Piggywaspushed · 01/11/2020 14:55

Oh, yes, she was on top form!

DollyMixtureLulus · 01/11/2020 14:57

If anyone's still looking for thermals, I got some 'activewear' from Mango which are lovely and toasty. They've got shorts and crop tops as well as this, which is the most unflattering garment I've ever put on in my life but is sooooo warm.

TheHoneyBadger · 01/11/2020 15:03

Sadly hot flushes and thermals are not friends. Nor are hot flushes racing across the school making you a little sweaty only for that sweat to then freeze on you when you reach your destination.

Apparently there will be a new duty system in place to support teachers who are teaching for three hours in a row. No mention of what it is or when it will come into force. I have been racing between lessons. I will now be leaving 5 minutes early religiously so that I have time for a quickly grabbed wee if needs be or just not to be hyperventilating when I reach my next class.

I am not Mrs Pop-off (showing my age).

RigaBalsam · 01/11/2020 15:09

Majjid on LBC going through all the social justice reasons why we should not close
and says from NY times children only form 5 percent of cases.
He is saying children aren't super spreaders.

He is saying teachers bringing it home isn't happening ( paraphrasing) he says studies currently indicate. Hmmm

Fails to see all of the safety measures are in place also not thinking of adults.

MrsHamlet · 01/11/2020 15:11

Dolly I've not been able to do that move for years. If I get one of those garment, do you think it'll be possible again?

RigaBalsam · 01/11/2020 15:16

Majjid is villlifying us in my opinion. Sigh so fed up.

Augustbreeze · 01/11/2020 15:21

I think the most pathetic thing I've read this morning is that Iain Duncan Smith and other backbenchers are whinging that the scientists bullied BJ into lockdown.

Is he really that ineffective a leader? Perhaps their comment is telling!

MsAwesomeDragon · 01/11/2020 15:22

Dolly how do you go to the toilet in that garment? Does it have poppers at the bottom? I have enough problems making sure I can get to the loo as it is, I definitely need to be as quick as I can once I'm there Blush

Honey you aren't the only one who is worried about toilet access. I need the loo more often than most people (a sign that my diabetes is still not very well controlled I think), and often go 3 times during the school day, so only one break at lunchtime would result in embarrassment for me (or an investment in adult nappiesEnvy)

Piggywaspushed · 01/11/2020 15:22

staff that wasn't me you were shouting at on another thread was it? I was trying to pour oil on troubled waters … Sad

Piggywaspushed · 01/11/2020 15:23

The NY Times article didn't even look at the UK!

RigaBalsam · 01/11/2020 15:25

His show makes me tear my hair out.

Callers now saying if we strike we are awful ( who mentioned strikes?) we should step up like the police and supermarkets.

Same as Mumsnet

DollyMixtureLulus · 01/11/2020 15:29

how do you go to the toilet in that garment?

Aaaahh I never thought of that! No, it's an all in one. Stripping off necessary Blush

noblegiraffe · 01/11/2020 15:29

Children under school age who are with their parents will not count towards the limit on two people meeting outside. This will mean that a parent can see a friend or family member with their baby or young children.

Children and adults who are dependent on round-the-clock care, such as those with severe disabilities, will also be included. The guidance will be updated to reflect this.

Recently tweeted by Nadine Dorries. Should be helpful for new mothers. Not sure if it helps monkey?

DollyMixtureLulus · 01/11/2020 15:30

I have also never mastered any sort of gymnastic move.

Dear me. 10/10 for warmth, but a solid 3 for practicality Grin

Piggywaspushed · 01/11/2020 15:30

I have never listened to LBC. This seems a wise decision.

Any DJ like that (they don't have to be impartial) attracts the corona deniers, union haters etc.

I genuinely don't know why James O'Brien works for them.

People who are worried about the economy and losing jobs should want total lockdown. It makes no sense, economically, to keep schools open and prolong lockdown measures.

Shelagh and James Obrien and Eddie Mair are usually pretty good. Its only majiid who loves the great Barrington.
