You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Been called that for a long while . Was on some anti Nicola threads under different nomenclature but In have forgotten it. Hates her.

CallmeAngelina · 23/10/2020 20:17

It's that wooden repetition of the same provocative (goady) statements that remind me of someone else.

ChloeDecker · 23/10/2020 20:25

Happy Half Term! Finally - what bliss.

Wine cheers everyone!

MsAwesomeDragon · 23/10/2020 20:37

Happy holidays everyone. I'm starting the half term week in bed with a horrific headache. I think it might be my monthly menstrual migraine, but it's early. Ah well, my rock and roll lifestyle will just have to be put on hold for tonight.

It's actually hilarious that 20% of the voters think I'm being unreasonable to want to buy teachers a drink. Miserable fuckers.

Miserable and bitter! The sort with no real friends just lots of huns

I’m so glad it’s half term! And it’s also my birthday tomorrow AND my mum is babysitting overnight so DP can have a night away - first child free night this year (luckily we’re all only in Tier 1 at the moment).

INSET today with socially distanced staff meeting in the gym. Principal and VP crowing about the fact we’ve been open full time and only 4 cases, clearly with the implication that this is somehow down to hard work and superior moral fibre. Also with an unmistakable air of “well that’s all over and done with now”...can’t help thinking that perhaps, just perhaps, it may get a little worse...?

minisoksmakehardwork · 23/10/2020 20:54

Happy half term everybody. Congratulations on making it this far. After today I can't say I'm not glad to have next week off. Meltdown from a student, appalling behaviour from others. Although some lovely comments from a couple of parents I have been in contact with.

But I have finished my first full half term - lockdown put paid to the start of my job but being home with my brood has given me a bucket load of patience to work with Sen kids in mainstream, even when they are incredibly challenging. So far I am thoroughly enjoying life in secondary education.

phlebasconsidered · 23/10/2020 21:10

Herc, (stands up and pushes chest out bravely) I am Barry!

The only staff member not a deputy or head who is 50 or over. I sometimes think I am regarded more as Miss Havisham though.

echt · 23/10/2020 21:15

Well done all of you. Do remember to put your feet up at some point, though. Gin

I'm counting down to the end of the year (29th November).
And then we start the new academic year on the 30th, for two weeks. Yay. Not.

The last week is for 2021 planning. Students are welcome to attend and are given work to do. No-one ver turns up. I know, I've never entirely got how it's OK to do this but we do it every year.

For myself I've booked long service leave for the last week, sooo much better than back-to- back meetings.

Piggywaspushed · 23/10/2020 21:37

So, all these social equity campaigners that keep bashing us... where are the threads they have started about the FSM injustice? I thought it was their driving force??

On a side note Robert Halfon, who I used to loathe seems a better egg the longer this all goes on and voted against the government yesterday.

CallmeAngelina · 23/10/2020 21:50

A week to go until 'notice day.'
Anyone know if anyone about to cave?

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 23/10/2020 21:51

Come on @Piggywaspushed they are really only interested in what suits their needs. What they mean when they chat shit about the disadvantaged is that they believe that there is some kid somewhere getting one up on theirs. They have no idea what is meant by real disadvantage and most probably would not be inviting a disadvantaged child into their home for a cooked meal and homework help.

Ben Bradley OTOH is showing himself to be a complete twat.

ohthegoats · 23/10/2020 22:33

I think they'd be mostly horrified if they knew how much teacher time/lesson time those disadvantaged children take away from their darlings.

SaltyAndFresh · 23/10/2020 22:35

I'm of the lunchtime in the pup generation too. Year 8 after half a lager used to be a bit of a trial, and would now be a sackable offence. Now we're very lucky to get lunch at the same time as a department.

I'm joining the living room ranks as I'm on lockdown in Wales Sad

I feel I can't really say much about cases in my school as I worry about outing details. Needless to say it's lots. I feel gaslighted if I so much as hint at my concern.

Bitbusyattheminute · 23/10/2020 22:43

I'm actually ok with a half term Welsh ld. But it's shit for my kids; can't even meet a mate for a tootle round.

Cracklefraggle · 23/10/2020 22:51

@Bitbusyattheminute

I have ordered lots from amazon. I'm a terrible person cos I never support local shops. Well I do, but they tend to be massive supermarkets or big chain stores. Don't think I've shopped in an independent shop since I used to haunt lee Louise and Quiggins in my youth.
Ahhh Quiggins, how I miss those days.
HarveySchlumpfenburger · 23/10/2020 22:52

In Ben Bradley’s case his ‘concern’ is that most of the money is going to crack dens and brothels so it’s a waste.

I can see the government attempting to take credit for the councils & restaurants who have stepped up to provide food & vouchers this half term. Just showing what a great, caring freedom loving nation Britain is or some such bollocks.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 23/10/2020 22:59

I've ordered from Amazon. I think they'd be hard pressed to prevent it really. I can't really understand the thinking behind the covering up of goods in the shops. Especially as they have left it up to shops to decide what is deemed essential and haven't produced a list.

I've had a lovely email from a parent governor thanking me for making their DS's first half term a good one. That, and the fact that I'm planned and prepped for most of the first 2 weeks back means I'm going to enjoy being able to do bugger all relaxing for the next week.

Enjoy all!

hedgehogger1 · 23/10/2020 23:11

Bubble burst at my kids school. Teacher of the bubble was meant to be getting married at half term. It's all so shit

Quiggins!! I used to buy all of my tassle skirts, velvet blazers and hair dye from there! I was gutted when it closed 😫.
DreamingofBrie · 23/10/2020 23:23

I'm shattered. Came home and crawled immediately to bed. Happy half term everyone Wine.

We haven't had a bubble burst yet, but I was working alongside someone (not school) at the weekend, who has had a family member test positive and beginning to show symptoms himself, so waiting to see what the next week brings.

SaltyAndFresh · 23/10/2020 23:47

@DrMadelineMaxwell I drove last Aldi before and noticed the aisle of shite was covered with plastic Grin

echt · 24/10/2020 02:26

the aisle of shite

superb. :o

I still remember the aisle of shite in Sydenham Lidl (same thing) carrying hoof polish and mane shampoo in some equine-related madness.

TheHoneyBadger · 24/10/2020 03:15

Happy Birthday Gravity!! Many good wishes for a decent day with no work to think about coming your way.

Have had a lovely, stayed up too late, evening with ds talking, playing games (mapominoes) and taking the dog out for a midnight walk etc. Our relationship is so much more relaxed when there's no homework or 'how many warnings did you get today' type angst or I've got to mark a million tests stress on my end.

It has been lovely to catch up and hang out. Ds is 13.5yrs and just a fraction smaller than me but I still just about have the physical advantage. He is male and that seems to equate needing to prove himself physically but only a mum to do it against (I could still kick his arse imo) so I've been made to arm wrestle, try to break free, try and block him and do strange sofa foot wrestling this evening. Literally every day at the minute he stands next to me and hopes he's taller and he will be very soon.

I know lots of people said lockdown was hard for their kids but ds was really happy and is struggling with going back to school and having to deal with new to the school teachers (lots) and being told what to do endlessly etc. He needs this week off as much as I do and as much of many of our students do I should think. He is really struggling with one in particular new teacher who I'm obviously backing up and reinforcing but to be fair his 'home notes' and 'school notes' on GO for a removal do give the impression that he just removes kids without going through the warning system or trying to build any kind of relationship or carrot system with a class rather than just remove people.

I could of course be being 'that parent' but I share a duty with this man and he goes to the quietest area of the playgrounds and stands almost hidden under a tree feigning being deaf and blind whilst I wrestle with the real issues and 'try' to enforce year group bubbles staying apart etc and that does tend to make lean towards thinking yeah I can imagine him having no other tricks up his sleeve than removing kids with one warning.

There will always be teachers like that and there will always be teenagers who don't respond to that and reach the point of thinking meh I'd rather be removed and actually I get more work done in the removal hub. I think he and ds are at stalemate with ds's gcse science hanging in the balance and at some point I'm going to step in. I honestly think for both their sakes a group change would be best but don't know how best to go about securing that.

My posts are always too long. I do apologise. Hopefully you are all deep asleep. I'm still too high from making it to the end of this first half term.
