You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom, especially if yo

SLT don't have a clue if they don't have kids.

The number of times I've complained about the lack of notice for any after school events and still no one listens.

@whynotme40 We'd either get cover for the whole morning or more likely have phone in the classroom, answer and step outside and grab someone nearby for a couple of minutes. Tricky though depends on school layout etc. If you needed a long talk with the GP get cover.

WhyNotMe40 · 05/10/2020 19:03

@Augustbreeze

Goodness knows *@WhyNotMe40*. Consult yr manager? Try ringing the surgery and explaining yr work and seeing if they can give a specific time?
Thanks for answering. When we could book appointments it was easier - now we fill.in a form to request a phone appointment and you just get allocated one! It's for mid cycle bleeding, which is probably due to perimenopause, but as it's happened a few times now, I need to check it out. Not the sort of conversation I can nip out of a lesson into the corridor to have, even if I could keep my phone switched on in my bag!
Hercwasonaroll · 05/10/2020 19:06

Ahh yep definitely not a corridor conversation!

Can you speak to the surgery and explain? Mine have always been OK about ringing after 3 if needed.

Yet another issue that people don't even consider.

MrsHamlet · 05/10/2020 19:09

A colleague needs cover for a phone consultation between 9-12! She is free for part of the time, will be covered for the rest and the cover will lurk close by to take over. SLT are fine with that.

Piggywaspushed · 05/10/2020 19:09

Nice things being said about us by Jermaine Jenas , Claudia Winkleman and Alex Jones on One Show. A few platitudes but still nice to hear.

WhyNotMe40 · 05/10/2020 19:10

I'll give it a try. Thanks. It's such an ovary ache trying to get through on the phone - they want everything to go through the website now so you have to listen to endless messages about the all singing all dancing website... Then get put in a queue to get cut off just before it's your turn! Grin
Is it reasonable to take a whole morning off to wait for a phone call if I can't get it changed?

Oh that's good to know. Thanks
MrsHamlet · 05/10/2020 19:12

Yes, why. And if anyone is arsy about it, say "uterus" and they'll back off unless they have one of their own in which case they'll get it

Augustbreeze · 05/10/2020 19:13

If you need to talk to a dr you need to talk to a dr. You obviously do. Hope all OK.

Keepdistance · 05/10/2020 19:18

Yes i got gp to call after 4 as i was picking up dc.
Phone calls are easier and easier to get than in person though.

Yeah i do thi k there is an asthma thyroid link as my sister has both too. Maybe years of asthma inflammation

ohthegoats · 05/10/2020 19:18

Our governors come in for coffee and cake on National Teacher's Day (or whatever it's called). Today they had been to the chocolate and flower aisles of Aldi and arrived with a box of stuff.

I've got my performance management on Thursday. I don't want to do anything - apart from go part time after Easter. Do you think that's the sort of thing they want from a relatively newly appointed ass head? Probably should think of something else, but unfortunately it will end up being digital policy stuff. Meh.

Hercwasonaroll · 05/10/2020 19:19

Definitely reasonable to take the morning off why.

phlebasconsidered · 05/10/2020 19:29

None of our slt have kids. 2 have never bothered (not convinced they even like kids tbh), one has kids who have left home. And most of the wannabees are young childless. They just don't get it.

It's more important for me to be home with my mum and the kids than to be seen in my classroom till 5. They're just wankers.

whynot you need to get that looked at. Mid cycle bleeding shouldn’t be put down to the peri menopause. Don’t let the GP fob you off either (some are great with women’s Heath, a lot are less than great). That needs investigation, most likely nothing but it does need looking at. Good luck

NeurotrashWarrior · 05/10/2020 19:47

Weird, asthma thyroid link here too.

Gah, and mid cycle bleeding last cycle! Fml.

Off to catch up on thread.

NeurotrashWarrior · 05/10/2020 19:49

Autoimmune stuff can be linked. I don't have any allergies, my body overreacts to itself Hmm and viruses.

(Probs means I should have had more parasites and worms etc.) (we had a lot of pets so fine there.)

Frlrlrubert · 05/10/2020 20:07

We had a staff meeting (in departments via teams) today and decided everyone should wear masks in corridors and social areas.

Some departments dissented but majority was in favour.

We're also bringing back detentions for behaviour, at break and lunch rather than after school, but dropping sanctions (mostly) for missing equipment (already dropped for no homework).

Head says the 'circuit break' idea has died as far as he can tell. Our 6th form is out at the moment and I think it's in the pipeline that they do blended learning going forward, since the numbers for their age group are dire.

Augustbreeze · 05/10/2020 20:09

Interesting @Frlrlrubert, are you in an area with restrictions all?

Meanwhile we are passing assessments around several teachers for marking. I literally might as well just go around licking everyone.

DreamingofBrie · 05/10/2020 20:14

Checking in. Hope everyone is ok. I was almost broken by my Year 8s this afternoon. Nothing particularly bad, but an unwillingness to think independently and find answers for themselves, and general rowdiness. We're getting strong messages from slt that we are responsible for keeping distance from the students but I'm finding it difficult to do this when they are so needy.

Mistressiggi · 05/10/2020 20:18

There's a lot of whispers here about an extra lockdown for a couple of weeks over half term. I've noticed my own dc coming home with log ins for online stuff. I don't think anybody actually knows anything though. The first minister has an update tomorrow and at the very least we find out what is happening with the Scottish exams (about time)

Augustbreeze · 05/10/2020 20:21

Sorry to hear that @DreamingofBrie.

Yes @Mistressiggi the BBC's been running that story a lot, I noticed. Jason Leitch is keen isn't he.

The thread I linked to earlier today about teachers not self isolating when students test positive has a few awful stories about how teachers are being treated/used.....

Frlrlrubert · 05/10/2020 20:28

@Augustbreeze

Interesting *@Frlrlrubert*, are you in an area with restrictions all?
We're not technically, but many of the pupils live in an area that is.
