You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom. Close the door quietly on your way out

Here was me smugly thinking I’d fit into my clothes thanks to Hero Joe and I’ve just realised I haven’t the faintest idea where my shoes are. We repainted the bedroom (in between paddleboarding and garden redesigning natch) and things got ‘stored’.

@MsAwesomeDragon

staff it's because I've gone low carb in an effort to get my diabetes under control. And one of the tablets they've given me for the diabetes has the unfortunate side effect of making me burp for hours after eating a meal with a normal amount of carbs ☹️. It's genuinely not worth the discomfort of eating a plate full of pasta/a chocolate bar/cake. I'm still technically obese, but only 3lbs to go til I tip over into just overweight instead. I should be able to do that in the next couple of weeks. Then I'll be at my lightest since 10yo dd was conceived.
Congrats! Though, Are you actually me?!? Also diabetic - have lost 5 stone since my heaviest year ago and am now my lightest since uni having lost just over a stone in last three months. I’ve gone from size 18/20 pre lockdown to a definite size 16! I’ve got a whole new wardrobe to wear. It’s about the only thing making going back to work worthwhile 🤣🤣🤣
MrsHamlet · 30/08/2020 22:23

Size 8. More size 9. Worse than that I buy a lot a totally acceptable number of shoes from Canada where my feet are size 11.
All that said, I've been mainly in bare feet or flip flops since March. I don't know if I can sashay in heels any more. I know I can't bear the thought of a bra.

MrsHerculePoirot · 30/08/2020 22:24

Wow @monkeytennis97 that’s amazing!

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 30/08/2020 22:27

Bloody hell my lanyard - I am off to find that now before I forget.

Massively impressed with all this weight loss, I’ve found it hard to just stay roughly where I was with all the restrictions on exercise and the only shop open being the food shop, so the temptation to buy treats to cheer things up.

Kashtan · 30/08/2020 22:30

Also very impressed with everyone’s weight loss, 👍

phlebasconsidered · 30/08/2020 22:30

I don't fit in my trousers. I need roomy shirts and leggings for a month.

I have size 2.5 feet. I buy kids shoes. For this term i've basically bought washable kids plimsolls for work.

HedyPrism · 30/08/2020 22:41

Weight loss especially impressive to me as I've put on 10kg since February without even any really indulgent eating.

Frlrlrubert · 30/08/2020 22:45

I'm impressed with all your weight losses!

I've lost 9lb in the last month, which I reckon is about half of what I put on in the preceding two months. But honestly, I've been steadily gaining for the last two years. Must have better habits this term!

noblegiraffe · 30/08/2020 22:53

Things teachers never say when going back to school, Corona edition.

Danglingmod · 30/08/2020 22:54

Yes, very impressed with all the superb weight losses - particularly in the circumstances!

Phleb - just did a metaphorical double taje and then remembered you are primary, aren't you? Can't imagine legging and kids' plimsolls going down too well at your average secondary school Grin

MrsHamlet · 30/08/2020 23:01

Definitely no leggings allowed in my school. Unless you're one of the chosen ones.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 30/08/2020 23:01

I've gained 10lb during lockdown, then lost only half of that recently. Far too busy doing my usual summer holiday decorating that completely decimated the state of my downstairs rooms and made meal planning and being organised a bit of a chore.

DH has been super-focused in that time and has lost 6 stone!

Hercwasonaroll · 30/08/2020 23:02

Well done on your weight loss lighter ones!

I'm a stone lighter since March, combination of running and stress. Hoping to keep up with the running and expecting the stress to triple. One bonus is I might be a size 8 by October! I've gone from the top of overweight to almost the green zone on bmi, about 5lb to go.

Frlrlrubert · 30/08/2020 23:19

We had a crackdown on 'work appropriate clothes' last term.

There was drama when the lab techs were told not to wear jeans.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 30/08/2020 23:19

Very glad I don't work at a secondary with a business clothes dress code. Or the primary down the road from ours where they are encouraged to wear similar.

Dresses with leggings (better than tights in windy weather!) is very much acceptable wear in our school. Or I wear black smart jeans and a nice top - not easy to tell they are jeans, but they have all the pockets and belt loops I need for my lanyard (I won't wear it hanging around my neck as it would bop kids on the back of their head if I was leaning by their shoulder to help them) and pens.
I have a jacket or three when needed to smarten up, but comfort when moving, teaching PE and helping the kids is more important.

I do wish one of our foundation staff wouldn't wear her crocs to school though, but that's just because I can't stand the look of them.

Piggywaspushed · 30/08/2020 23:22

Can I top trump the foot convo by announcing I was born with 11 toes?

True fact.

Piggywaspushed · 30/08/2020 23:26

No, Labour , this is not the solution:

We were literally talking about extra fingers and toes in the car earlier!

How can they plan for May-July 2021 when they can't even plan for next week without changing their minds ever 5 minutes?

DrMadelineMaxwell · 31/08/2020 00:08

I have the normal number of fingers and toes, but my fifth toe on each foot sits on top of the fourth toe on each foot.

Makes the kids in the front row of assembly wonder if I have 4 toes when I'm wearing peep toe shoes/sandals in the summer.

ohthegoats · 31/08/2020 00:13

I asked for a sabbatical last year (18-19). Governors said no, so I resigned and we went and did a ski season. I then couldn't get a job sorted (had a job sorted for Sept 19, couldn't get supply), so ended up having 10 months off.

phlebasconsidered · 31/08/2020 00:40

It's going to have to be be leggings and roomy dresses/ tunics! When I was secondary I wore proper trouser suits with kitten heels like a real grown up.
